NS Rail Gang in Bath, PA

Ойын-сауық

Norfolk Southern rail replacement gang working in Bath, PA. Each machine has a purpose.
Grove Crane- threads new rail inside the tracks
Spike Pullers- pretty self explanatory, pulls out the old spikes
Speed Swings- one picks up the old rail, the other uses an electromagnet to pick up spikes and plates
Plugger- fills in holes where spikes were removed so new spikes hold in the ties
Kribber Adzer- removes history from the ties and leaves flat surface for new plates
Excavator (with rail threader)- puts new rail on top of tie plates
Rail Welder- also pretty self explanatory, welds two rails together
Rail Heater- heats up the new rail to stretch it as much as possible to prevent kinks in the summer
Spikers- first one has built in gauger to set correct width and hold in place and the rest drive the rest of the spikes needed
BAM- Boxer Anchor Machine- applies anchors to hold the rail in place after temperature changes
PCAM- used to apply pandral clips (not used at this location)
Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy.

Old mechanic here. I understand the machines when you are working on them. Just nuts and bolts so to speak. No railroads where I live so this is really interesting for me. Having a narrator explaining what is going on is awesome. More please.

Good stuff! Appreciate the narration of what's going on. You do well on your equipment repairs with explanations. Way for us "outsiders" to learn.

All the years I watch the railroad fix the tracks and remove all wooden bat's it was exciting they came down my coredoor about 3" times over the yrs. Looking at theses tracks I see wood bars they do get wore out.

I assume due to the location this would be the R8 gang. Used to work on it back in '07, the lineup has changed a bit since then. The grove crane would have been after the speedswings to thread the new rail in and had hydraulics for drilling and bolting the new joints (no Holland welder then). The hirail excavator and third spike puller with the bearsaw are new additions, used to have a gas K12 with a clamp. A railbound plugger is much nicer than the old Topkick box truck, used to be a 3 man job, with a driver pulled off whatever division gang was around. Was a good crew, miss some of those old heads. Great video!

@@joelbutler7501 that's not really necessary. I actually need some of that kind of feedback so I can do better in the eyes of you viewers. It takes all kinds to make the world turn. You're better than that. Don't stoop to their level.
