Had a new guy at our last match I had to explain and warn about Sky Loading. He was in such a hurry on the ton he would jump in to gear slam the bolt shut then get on target....

Historically, moving with a closed bolt has required opening the bolt, moving back and then moving again. Has that officially changed or is the DQ a MD call?

That action you described is what we will sometimes use in a 'warning' for a first offense. Repeats may result in a stage DQ and then after a stage DQ will be a match DQ.

@@ocabj Concur. Thanks for clarifying. I understood from the video the first occurrence would be a Stage DQ and second a Match DQ. Two strikes vs three.

One question, left handed shooter right handed bolt gun. When shooting unsupported offhand it is impossible to be on target and close the bolt. How do you handle that situation?

The situation is not ideal, but I've tested the ability to have the rifle at least shouldered and pointed relatively at target while reaching over scope with left hand to operate the bolt.

@@ocabj wouldn’t it be safer for everyone instead to place the rifle on safe, bring the rifle down to a point you safe operate the bolt and retain positive control over the rifle, get on target and the take the rifle off safe saying safety just like a semi-auto each time?

@@jefflayton5889 Yes, I would agree. Even in High Power Service Rifle, I would drop the bolt on the AR in 200 yard standing while the rifle is cradled in my hand/arms and not shouldered (yet pointed down range). If this becomes an issue at my venue, we'll probably just provide on-the-fly guidance and work with it. However, it is probably something that should be raised with the NRL.
