NRA veterans in Luweero look back on liberation war with mixed emotions
Luweero district is home to thousands of bush war veterans of the National Resistance Army (NRA). Now while some content with life’s achievements, others are still waiting to reap from the fruits of their sweat in the war that brought the current government to power.
These men and women who had few or no guns but dared to take on the well equipped government forces stared death in the face daily.
Some retired after the NRA captured power in 1986 while others stayed on till the early or late 1990s and either retired officially or deserted the army to start a new life.
Frank Walusimbi travelled to Luweero and engaged some of the veterans.
