Great video, GREAT info...except regarding one point - limiters inside the shocks. Yes, some people use that for lowering a vehicle...but, that's not the only reason. I'm just getting started in NPRC, but I've got several race, off-road, & crawling vehicle, and it's something that I've done to all of them...but NOT to lower the vehicles. When the shock first starts to compress, if there's no oil between the bottom of the piston & shock body, you end up with a slight "suction". It's not a huge amount, but it does cause a slight delay in the shock's ability to compress. By placing a very thin spacer (typically 0.5-1mm), this allows the shock to always have oil under the piston, eliminating that "suction", thus eliminating the delay before compression begins. For my 1/10 off-road race vehicles, I use a 1mm spacer. For my 1/8 buggy, I've got 1.5mm in front, and 2mm in the rear. For my USGT car, I'm using 0.5mm at all four corners. I realize that this does lower three vehicles slightly...which is partly why I keep the thickness of the spacers to a minimum...but, again, the primary purpose is to keep a little oil under the piston. Of course, with no-prep, the rear is never fully extended, so I see no need for spacers in the rear. As for the front, that slight suction & delay could actually be a good thing...I might put 0.5mm spacers in the front, and I might not.

Good tips. I just got done hacking up my old rc10b4, had to extend about 25mm and had to cut and the rear arms and adapt them as well as shortening the drive shafts, cutting and rethreading all the turn buckles. Would have been easier to just modify an old traxxas slash but the rc10 was one a race rig with all carbon and ti bits so I thought I'd start there. Has been a fun build but I will end up doing the slash as well since the plastics are easier to modify with the higher nylon content. Stiff shock towers arena good place to start as well when starting the shock tune. Flexible shock tower = suck. Ha spoke to soon, you just got to the shock towers. I laughed my ass off when I decided to take a pass in the rain and the thing was like a bolt out of a crossbow. I'm sure it will suck in the dry for irony's sake. Ha.

Awesome & very informative videos. I have the new Drag slash, only thing I did was change to proline nova body, want to save stock. Ran a few time & went straight as hell, just installed there drag pinion in and OMG it rips. It also started pulling to the right, I noticed the front right shock drops faster than the left. If I lift front the right drops faster than left. Any suggestion? Should i check oil levels from factory?

I have been very surprised to not find a lot on diff fluid weight. Longer travel shocks slow the bite time and allow a smoother transition of power. To stiff and the power transfer is too quick and you will spin and lose traction.
