Why I love Dave Macleod.. “I’m wasted man”.. proceeds to climb a massively exposed, desperate 65m E10 7a (8b+) pitch.. the guy is nails.

There is a significant gap between the strongest I have ever felt in my life, and the weakest that Dave has ever felt. At least by my estimation. The guy is so tough the rock sweats more than him.

I love the terminology "nails". There's a problem at my local tiny climbing gym called that. It looks so simple and seems like it just needs very strong fingers but it's extremely balancey and technical
You guys are so amazingly good at capturing the feeling. Got my chalkbag on my desk and everything. Just barely keeping myself from putting my harness on and looking like a complete idiot :-)
Love how this is filmed! Excellent angles of the entire pitch - you really feel like you're climbing up with him.
Wow. That was hard to watch. What a cliff. What a climb. Great film.
Desperate! Makes you feel the pump on the crux pitch. Love the HVG pitch. :-)
i swear i should watch this video each night to develop my mental strength towards exposure... whats shown here makes my climbing look like top roping
Long past time that Dave MacCleod arrives in The Valley (Yosemite) and tick off a few El Cap Big Wall’s. Something tells me he’d kick some ass
Chuckled at the HVG pitch 😂
utter brilliant. watched 4 times now and I know I'll be having a 5th. lol. daves the man.

luke glaister yeah man Dave is such a badass. I can't get enough of his videos.
Awesome climbing, and crazy Britains :) Love to see this guys!
I'm not a climber but can see that's an amazing feat in an amazing place. Great that this has been recorded so well.
Wow Dave! Nicely done mate! I got emotional watch you do the crux pitch. Focusing all your energy into those moves like that, on hideous holds... incredible!! Amazing work on capturing this epic climb! You guys make my favorite short films!
Great short film, captures the environment and nature of the climb perfectly.
Very well done as per usual with you guys, thanks for the inspiration!
That is one Spectacular & Sick route!!!
Gwaaan Dave! My palms are sweaty now.
Good timing, Diff! Clocks about to go forwards, Holiday weekend, time to get out! Nice to see this again, cheers!
Talk about climbing through exposure.
Dude what the hell? I don’t ever recall experiencing this, but when I saw that ultra runout top-out (yes there was 1 cam placed in there after all, but HOLY COW!), suddenly tears bursted from my eyes... That’s some potent emotion contained in this little documentary. Well done yous!
Dave is so cool!! great video looking forward to more!
I was sweating watching on my sofa. Respect!
Dave you are Absolutely Mental I was on the edge of my chair the whole way through!!!!!
Stunning route.
Anyone else got sweaty palms after watching that. What a beast!!!
The birds are the lords of the cliff.
BRILLIANT!
Very impressed.
Love these. Keep them coming.

Hot Aches Productions Ah. Yea!
Ouch that looked truly desperate!
Incredible :)
wee climb!
just wow
insane!!!!!!
Insane.
This rock formation just looks so incredible. It is a thing of absolute beauty. I would actually like to know how far I could go on it, because I definitely couldn't send it, but would love to give the 6as a go :D.
So fuckin intense...........jeez!!! The man is an absolute legend!💪🏻👌🏻🧗♂️
Bruuutaal
Incredibly mega
From another dimension.
So. Bad. Ass. Well done Dave 👌👍
These videos are so so good you gonna do anymore?
Just the most amazing bit of climbing... make trad cool again
Anybody else find this level of expertise WAY more impressive than somebody clipping bolts on a 60' climb that is technically "harder"?
@adandap

My instinct is to say "yes" but I think a fairer answer is that they are both impressive achievements that require different skills and mindsets. That said, my palms sweated throughout this video and they don't when watching someone clip a bolt every 2m!

No. They're both impressive.
Wait a minute - the flake which he says - if you pull on it, it would just fall off then becomes the belay station for the crux pitch? What?
Those poor sods in Britain will climb anything. :P
He comes so close to falling right after 8:32. Looks like his hand nearly comes off.
Amazing climb, awesome effort. Still I don't find a reason not to wear helmet in such and exposed route. Any bad fall and you can crack your skull...
Bloody Hell.
Nice one Dave,a lot to go wrong there that didn't.
*E11 7a is a big time grade* Does anyone know if there’s been a repeat & has the grade stayed the test?

Does Long Hope have any connection with the location / village of Long Hope in the Orkneys?

The first ascent was done just after the life boat disaster. Ed Drummond name the route in honour if that.
Any news of Ed Drummond?
So you want to trad climb eh?
If it's a first attempt why is there chalk every place above him?
@HotAches

Stephen Needham it's a first ascent. not attempt. it's a red point.

Probably bird shit
First attempt means it's His first attempt?
@HotAches

first attempt at the Red point. not first time on the route. standard practice on hard trad route to work the moves first, then go for clean red point. sorry if the film is not clear, it's an extract of a feature length piece.
@eyescreamcake

he clearly had the moves memorized
I've seen literally thousands of climbs on video and film (and many more IRL), but this strikes me as teh most desperate in terms of someone right at their limit. Exactly as I was wondering "Does Dave ever cuss?...9:40 " :)
And SO much bird shit... :(
