Two thumbs up for GAN. A pick-up tool and magnetic frames, they really thought of everything. I could see myself become a mosaic-person.

I would like to see a comp where they have a mosaic category with like… idk, black and white cubes, where the competitors look at a QR code, and then make the mosaic into the QR code. Maybe there could be a camera pointing down at the code, so when it’s completed, the camera would open the QR code and then that’s time. 🤷‍♂️ idk, just a wandering thought while dish washing! 😁

But it would be too hard to replicate EXACTLY a QR code because every QR code is different

@@TheKoalaKangaroo generate a 48x48 code. Perfectly replicatable, 256 cubes needed.

I would definitely recommend getting the 100 cube pack, with anything less the pictures look a lot less detailed

Kinda thoughtful of gan actually

When my school couldn't get the Rubik's Mosaic lending program anymore this year, I found out about this and told my librarian, and now a bunch of schools in my district are getting their own mosaic kits! It's so cool to be able to share this with other people.

i just got the 100 cube set for christmas (the price is now $130 so $1.30 per cube) i love it, huge props to gan for designing this so well. i found out something that you guys didn't point out, each place that each cube goes is numbered from 1-100 (i'm assuming the 36 cube set does the same thing with 1-36)

This is the first time that I am impressed by a gan product in a while 👍

I need this! I have been looking for years for an affordable well produced solution, but most 3x3 cubes have rounded centers which is not good for mosaic art.

definitely buying the 10x10 set after I move this year!

I would consider a stickerless version, the dark lines through the art don't look great to me. I can understand why they did it though, the tiles allow for the "pixels" to all be exactly uniform shape and size, where stickerless cubes would cut the shapes in a bit around the center cap.

For people surprised by the price: These cubes aren't high quality speedcubes. They lack a lot of features which are common in speedcubes like magnets for proper alignment of the layers. They're also smaller which saves material and shipping costs. They also don't need to be individually packaged which saves a little bit. And they're sold in bulk, so they can suppress many costs that way as well. And since these aren't made for speedcubing I assume they're using an older internal design which is simple to manufacture and assemble. Maybe they don't even have springs inside since it's not really needed for mosaic cubing

I have been out of the cubing world for about 6 years. What happened? There are smart cubes everywhere. Gan is making 2x2's and weird stuff like this. and There are magnets in EVERYTHING. When I left smart cubes were concepts and kickstarters. Gan only made 3x3's and were kinda like the apple of the market with only a few very good products. Then magnets were a custom mod we did ourselves. Its weird coming back and seeing this.

Looks really good but..... Why is having the logo on every side, yet not very visible a compromise? They are cubes specifically designed for mosaic art. In my opinion, they really shouldn't have any logos on them at all. Seems unnecessary.

It’s a compromise because manufacturers have an interest in putting their logos on puzzles they make. It’s unequivocally good for branding. Consumers don’t care about this because they have nothing to gain from it. Usually, logos on mosaic cubes are annoying and detract from any art they make, so having extremely faint logos is a compromise. The maker gets to brand the cube without being annoying.

also, its nice to be able to easily identify where the center is on any cube on any side as it makes it easier to pull out individual cubes with the tool.

do they make an app to show you how to turn each cube and where to place them? because i feel like if that existed it would be easier to make complicated stuff

Turning? Probably not. What you need it to look like? Easy. Label them like chess pieces, or just a simple xy grid. Cube 1: (1, 1) Cube 2: (1, 2) etc.
