Oh my gosh the part where Frodo starts singing about Sam really gets me. Sam was always the unsung hero so it's fitting that Frodo should be the one to sing for him.

This is my favorite song from the musical. I just love how well it portrays Frodo and Sam's deep friendship and comradery. It's so fitting that Sam begins the song to get Frodo's spirits up, since Sam's always trying to lift him up and always has hope. And it's fitting that Frodo sings about Sam, since Sam doesn't think about himself, and Frodo knows without Sam he could never have come so far.

The first verse on "heroes of the Shire, muddling through, brave and true" .... I can't help thinking of the late-victorian generation, Tolkien himself, his three friends from school who died in the trenches. RIP.

I can still remember at Sadly the Very final performance of the Magical show when it came to Frodo and Sam singing this I think I can remember it was Sam singing and at one point as he was singing his verse the Actor got all emotional like we all was watching and he stopped and they Hugged each other. As one we rose and gave them maybe a 5 minutes standing ovation before we sat back down and “Sam” continued. ❤️❤️ Oh how I still miss this most Awesome of Musicals so much 😢😢

I stumbled upon the soundtrack of this wonderful musical whilst in the storeroom at work in the local charity shop (I volunteer). Never regretted such a gem of a find. My boss told me I could have it for under a fiver; the £10 I donated for it seems like not enough. The whole soundtrack touched my heart, and has stayed with me on all my countryside rambles. This song in particular reminds me of the Sam in my life, who introduced me into this magical realm. For that she could be no finer friend.

Can we stop to appreciate that Frodo and Sam’s metafictional mutual admiration society contributes nothing to the plot, yet makes it into every single adaptation of LOTR in some form? Because their friendship is one of the most beautiful things in the whole story. I’ve been listening to this song on Loop for almost 3 months now during Coronatide. ❤️

It contributes nothing to the plot but it conribues everything to the themes and overall message: The sure way to defeat evil is not through grand battles or powerful heroes, it's through supporting the people you care about, even through their darkest days.

But doesn't it contribute to the plot? By the time they're on the last leg of the trip to Mt. Doom, Sam is doing most of the work: rescuing Frodo from Shelob and from the orcs, finding water, choosing from various dangers, and finally actually carrying Frodo most of the way up Mt Doom, plus staving off fear and despair once the Ring goes into the fire. It took me many retreads to realize Sam is really the hero.

This is why it bugs me that people want to make out that they are gay for each other. It's a perfectly deep and abiding {but platonic} love with nothing sexual about it at all. Are these folks suggesting the only reason Sam would have done everything he endured would be out of a sense of romantic love?

I've seen so many comments on various video clips and uploads of the songs from the soundtrack (which is absolutely fantastic!) of people saying the musical is terrible and doesn't respect the material. Excuse me, what? If this song doesn't capture the essence of Tolkien's world, nothing will. I found out about this musical through a Facebook ad for the upcoming production coming to Chicago in July and was intrigued so I dug around and immediately fell in love with the music, then proceeded to buy a ticket for their opening night, which happens to be the day after my birthday, so perfect timing! I understand that it's not easy to fit thousands of pages of lore into a 2-3 hour musical, but based on the music, I have a strong feeling that I won't care. The music is perfect and that alone has me all giddy and excited for it 😁

It is most probably right after they leave Osgiliath. It is around there that Sam asks Frodo is he ever thinks that people will sing tales about them. And if you listen to the Smeagol and Gollum song fro the musical, wich takes place after Osgiliath and before Shelob, he slightly parodies the "Now and for always"-part from this song wich must put it afterwards.

It cost about £13m to produce and then got some bad reviews when it opened which affected ticket sales. At the time it was the most expensive stage production ever and they struggled to make back the cost of the show. Supposedly one of the actors got their leg caught in the stage mechanism during one show and got severely injured but I can't decide if that's a rumour. It ended up being canceled less than a year after it opened. in 2015 they updated the official website to say "COMING SOON", but it has since been all but removed, and the website is basically blank now.
