Nottage Village And Sker Point - A Porthcawl Walk Through Welsh History

The old village of Nottage and the rigged and remote Sker Point with its imposing old house.
Porthcawl is a relatively new town on the South Wales coast but people have been living in the area for thousands of years.
This Porthcawl circular walk takes you from the old village of Nottage along Moor Lane to the rugged and remote Sker Point.
The village of Nottage dates back to Saxon times although sins of bronze settlements have been found in the surrounding Welsh countryside.
The circular walk to the west of Porthcawl is about 6 miles but there is a shorter route that bypasses Sker Point which is only 3 miles.
On the walk, you pass the old Nottage Halt station from the days of the Porthcawl railway. The Cuckoo Bridge tramroad bridge. St David’s Well and you get to approach the remote Sker House from and angle you don’t normally see.
This route also takes you closest to Sker House.

to my knowledge, a public right away, can not be undone, doesnt matter if it passes through a farmers field, back garden, council yard, if it existed at least 15 years prior to planning permission, it cant be rebuked and an alternative path must be installed by law,

Yes, it is a bleak place, especially in a storm. Even today with Porthcawl nearby it still feels remote.

Thank you Marcus, really enjoy watching your videos.Walked the Nottage circular route with my 3 boys on Easter Sunday (someone had left 2 Dairy Milk Easter eggs at St.David's Well) and viewed your video at different stages on the way! Construction /keep out warning signs still there I am afraid.Quite busy along this route today.Watched about 10 people enjoying the sunshine on the patio at Sker House.I purchased a dvd recently of the history of Sker House (it also shows footage of the restoration back in 1999) from the appliance shop opposite Isabella's in town for just £5.Thanks again Marcus, take care,David.

The public footpath now runs around the holiday park, it's segregated by fencing. When it crosses The Grove Golf Club, it's not well signposted but is reasonably clear. I use it often, despite the occasional quizzical look from the golfers as I disappear into the trees.

The house did look spooky in the old ruined state. Apparently, the colour is what it would have looked like back in the 16th/17th century.
