Meh, framework gets pretty pricey as well to be honest, you pay like $1600 for a basic ryzen 5, 8gb ram, and 256 gb SSD option where you can get that for easily under $1000 if you just buy a standard laptop. I love the idea, but still too expensive for what it offers.

I'm personally not really interested in the Nothing brand. Sure, it's a refreshing design. And probably also good quality and good customer engagement. I had the Essential Phone when it first launched in 2017. That was my favorite non Nexus/Pixel Android phone. Considering Essential was purchased by Carl's Nothing brand, I was really excited. I wish they would have kept Essential's modular system. Having a 360 camera be able to stick onto the back of the device without needing to charge it was amazing. The Essential Phone 2 and 3 did leak after the company closed in Feb 2020. I was hoping those phones would have been brought over to Nothing's brand.I do like Carl Pei and his vision. They're just so far behind the pixel with cameras though. I get it then as long as Samsung is fabricating tensor It's going to have suboptimal thermal performance (although as of 2025 TSMC is fabricating the chip, which is the same company fabricating the 8g2 and 8+g1). Biggest issue for me is the pixels offer you the class leading point and shoot camera, Samsung offers you Dex. I do think nothing OS is much cooler aesthetic skin, But without a desktop mode and without being close to caught up on camera processing, it would be hard for me to justify the purchase. That being said I also own a S23 Ultra and love it for different reasons, the hardware, especially the cameras are the best out there imo but it lacks the software design prowess , fluidity and originality of the Nothing Phone 2. Look already forward to the Nothing Phone 3 that should be an unashamedly full fledged top of the range premium smartphone. It doesn't want to compete with budget oriented smartphones anymore

@@trqster There is nothing premium about Nothing imo, and there is nothing practical they can add to a phone to make it more premium than what the big brands have already done. If we're talking luxury, then there are plenty of companies that just customize mainstream iphone/galaxy models for whoever can afford them. I think they will just be another Oneplus, they will have their moment and then fade into the shadows. Bigger brands have tried and failed to stay in the smartphone market. Once upon a time, every industry had or could potentially bring a wide variety of visions, and that choice was welcome. Electronic toys that I had were made by a dozen different companies. Now, we have become complacent with finding "the best" or following the crowd and not allowing enough risks to be taken. Then, when competition arises, the bigger company buys out the small company and absorbs it, removing competition. It's near impossible to break out in an industry when what you create is immediately rejected as "not as good as..." or "looks too similar to..." an established brand, yet people are getting bored with "more of the same." hence smartphones are commonplace an no longer inspiring.

The problem with headphone jack is, built-in DAC is often so trash that if you want good sound you will need to use standalone DAC and plug into USB anyways. And if they use good quality DAC in phones that won't be so cheap and cost will be pushed to people who use wireless headphones and don't want or need headphone jack. For example, I use wired headphones on my phone, my laptop and on my work PC. Let's say I could configure my phone to have good audio output. Good right? No, that would mean that when I switch to other devices I would still get trash sound. It just make more sense to have DAC tied to headphones and connect to all devices via USB so you have same sound quality everywhere, and that way you don't push unnecessary costs to people who don't need them.

I think it's just it's almost impossible to succeed in the smartphone market in the United States with two companies controlling 93% of carriers sales. Even a monster like LG exited the market. Basically Google has been able to grow slightly with their market share, but it's still just a few percent.... And they have endless resources from which to pool from and class leading camera processing. I think succeeding outside the United States and North America might be a little less difficult without the pervasiveness of carriers and the cultural obsession with Apple amongst basically everyone under 25. There was a study five years ago that 90% of high school students were using an iPhone or plan to buy one with their next device. It's disgusting. I don't understand the cultural obsession with the phone that doesn't even let you side load apps, But it really has nothing to do with technical performance. It's as much about fashion, social inclusion, proprietary limitations on iMessage etc....

I did not know if I was going to like the glyph and trust me, take it away and I will feel the gap, it's all those small details that have been put in place that make you realise the value of this product. Overpriced ?, I don't think so, yes in its comparison with its predecessor I get it but the performance was doubled. The speeds on a phone 2 are remarkable, I feel how other phones are slow nowadays because of the smoothness of my phone. The UI has got me feeling like a hater when I use other people's phones, I love this phone, I love everything about it.

Battery is awesome when playing passively, active use drains it somewhat quickly. The Glyphs are a convo starter and kinda neat but no more. They do the same wrong things over and over and their walls look like crap! So experience by itself means nothing, “GUIDED” experience means everything! I knew of a company who encouraged all of their employees to give feedback complaints etc. and they had a form for it. But behind the scenes they were t interested AT ALL in the complaints all they really wanted is to know who the complainers were and then fire them! That company never did or never has amounted to much more than a fraud.

If it made up for that by offering a headphone jack or an SD card that would go a long way. Or maybe a desktop mode which is one reason I could tolerate Samsung issues. I am glad it's available in the US market though and the work desperate for competition here. But nothing has a great chip in that phone, fabricated by TSMC so it doesn't have the thermal issues that for instance the S23FE will have.

I don't know much about Nothing or their products. In general a new competitor in a mature market is not an easy thing to do unless you have something really unique that no one else has. The iPhone had several unique features over conventional cell phones of the era that made it standout in the market. A 'me too' device not matter how well executed will have trouble in the market even if it is backed by a major company. These phones appear to be a 'me too' product with a quirky design aesthetic, will appeal to some but not sure if it will appeal to enough to be successful.

Its because its implementation would imply ruining Samsung's market deal with Wacom for their Galaxy Note and Tab lines. People underestimate just how much Samsung leads the market. Even Apple uses Samsung screens.
