Amusing enough, CEC locations were never designed to encourage outdoor activities--this is a moot point until you step into a contemporary CEC store and hear "Nothing Like a Walk". Think about it: the hyperactive and futuristic entertainment, the dim-lit cabarets and showrooms, the expansive indoor playgrounds and funhouses. Anything and all that once stood for the franchise's defining features--they pulled customers inward, into this small, dark space. I never really thought twice about the convoluted, introverted nature of the Pizza Time Theater. It was just something that was accepted, and therefore never questioned. However, in an impressive, self-initiated turnaround, CEC's "Nothing Like a Walk" throws this introversion out the window. It brings down its retro catacombs, in light of pursuing a higher form. CEC had been capitalizing on the social behaviors of families in a secluded, controlled environment. This "new age" patronage for open air, greener spaces and healthier habits can be seen as a step up to modern business practices. As long as CEC aims to be a place to stop by--rather than place to stay at--this could work in their favor and build a better customer base.
