About:
Far beneath the majesty and splendour of the Paris Opera House, hides the Phantom in a shadowy existence. Shamed by his physical appearance and feared by all, the love he holds for his beautiful protégée Christine Daaé is so strong that even her heart cannot resist.
The musical opened at Her Majesty’s Theatre on 9 October 1986 with Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman in the leading roles, and there have been dozens of productions worldwide since then. Now in its 30th record-breaking year, The Phantom of the Opera continues to captivate audiences at Her Majesty’s Theatre in London’s West End, after more than 11,000 performances.

    And using the "Prima Donna" melody to do that too, for shame. Lest we forget, that melody was previously used by Andre and Firmin to cajole Carlotta into danger for personal gain. Our boy Raoul has a touch of tunnel vision, it seems.

    i love how christine’s dress kinda symbolizes her “innocence”. in the beginning, it’s completely white. however, in the graveyard scene where she contemplates going over to the phantom’s side, her dress is completely black. now, she’s half and half, symbolizing her conflict.

    Sure man! It was Christine who was born with half of her face deformed, shamed, abused and abandoned by her own mother, humiliated and terribly abused in a freakshow, lived into shadows and solitude, shunded by her appearance and cursed into an empty live, betrayed by the one she most loved and protected, humiliated and exposed in front of a multitude in a state, forced to commite crimes and isolated herself in a lair, with only one woman IN THE WHOLE WORLD to support her, it was Christine who ended up alone after everything good she did to THAT person she loved, it was Christine who cried for redemption in the ending and was almost killed by a dirty stupid multitude. Nooo, it wasn't Erik - the man that carried up Christine into his arms - that had passed through all of this. And i'm not being ironic!

    3:05 I love the guttural voice of Christine in that part. She thought Erik was her friend, since he taught her how to sing. But when she got to that part in the song, you could tell how angry she is when she mentioned about Erik killing off those who don't deserve. Ok, I feel bad for Erik for having to go through a very bad life, which shaped him who he is today. But I also felt bad for Christine a lot. After singing "Think of Me", she suddenly becomes this famous star, and Carlotta didn't like that, since it will ruin her career, especially since Erik only wants Christine to sing in all of the performances in the opera. And in the "Notes" song from before, the whole hullabaloo is centered around Christine. I know many people hate her for this and think "Why is this commotion centering around just one girl?!" But people don't know how much she's going through. How this fuss is all about her and imagine how can that do to her mental health. This can also apply to real life, where someone just did something amazing and got famous for it, but consequences happen. Christine just wants to live a life and sing and be with Raoul, but there will be trials because someone is just too obsessed with her.

    YES! you took the words right out of my mouth. People are disappointed with Christine but, when you think about it Christine didn't particularly have a say or even a choice. Plus Christine has every right to be scared, mad or even frustrated. She was trapped, yes she was their only hope but, she couldn't even say no she HAD to encounter the phantom because it was THEIR only way to "trap him." Yet people are mad because she is scared, if that was me I would be frightened too!

  • @ninarances9074

    @ninarances9074

    @@ellabaum4067 Yes, same! Also, in "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again", when Christine is singing by herself in the cemetery, that's when she feels vulnerable. And all I could think about is "Oh, maybe Christine never wanted the fame. And in this song, she feels vulnerable and helpless. All of the killings Erik has done, all of the attention she's getting. She never wanted that, she just wants her father back." But since Erik has been pretending to be her father this entire time, it's gonna be even harder for her to think of her father. I feel like people often forget that Christine (and other people like her [e.g. content creators, celebrities, etc.]) are still human. Like, they go through what humans go through, despite their fame. Just because they're put on a pedestal, that doesn't mean they're perfect or nothing bad happens to them. But also, when people think of strong female characters, they don't think of Christine (or other characters like her, like Cinderella or Snow White). They think of characters who can fight in a battle (e.g. Merida and Mulan) or "have more of a personality" (e.g. Belle and Ariel). Nothing wrong with that, but people should know that not all female characters have to physically fight in order to be strong. There are different reasons to root for a female character, aside from their physical strength.

    Its funny how everyone says raoul is controlling and thats why she should be with phantom. 1 the only time hes being "controlling " is the stage version of this song. And later he apologizes saying he was only trying to free her. 2 the phantom is insane and basically groomed her. Yes his backstory is tragic but that doesnt give him the right to murder people and claim christine and take away her free will.

    Okay, I see the plan as good but first off, why are they using the cops if he knows every look and cranny of the opera house like the back of his hand? I mean he could escape through a trapdoor that leads to either a torture pit or a coffee shop. Also why did they say the plan aloud. Besides the cool song, I mean. I mean he can hear everything going on cause he is constantly following them so if they wrote down the plan it would be better.

    I think it had to do with the fact that they didn't know how to react, since they could signal the guards and than he'd escape. the live play kinda makes sense why because nobody would know who it is under the cloak.

    Ok real talk to everyone saying roul is a bitch, an ass, ECT. *Like it or not?* They wouldn't be able to stop the phantom from killing and coming after her. Even if she gave him what he wanted she's not really doing it by choice. *Like she said: "What answer can I give? Am I to risk my life to win the chance to live?"* She knows that Roul cares and she knows it pains him to do this and if there was another way he'd take it in a heartbeat. *But they don't have another choice or way to stop the phantom.* that's the reality of it.

    I have to assume that this is when Raoul decided to give her the means to pull the trigger on the trap. (And it's not shown because suspense) Let me break this down, actually. We can infer that the initial plan was to catch the Phantom in the audience somewhere, with Raoul guarding Box 5 personally. What the plan didn't account for was Erik's desire to be part of the action this time, and not merely a spectator. And yet, once it became clear that Erik was on stage, and had in all likelihood dispatched Piangi, neither Raoul, nor the gendarmes present, do anything. As such, the logical conclusion is that Christine was intended to have the final word.

    This scene is depressing. They were planning how to hunt and kill someone who just wanted to survive in an inferior life and be loved, Raoul from the beginning wanted to hurt Erik, chasing him with a f**** sword in Masquerades. In the beginning, Erik just wanted Raoul to stay away from Christine, but when he became aggressive towards Raoul, is it Erik's fault? No, it's not. Also Carlotta, ugh, I hate this woman, she seemed happy to see someone "ready to fall", Erik was right to hate her. Everyone hates her and that's great, she's a narcissistic piece of s*. Madame Giry looked horrified, I mean, they were trying to HUNT, ARREST and KILL HER BABY! She took care of Erik as a child, they seem to have a 'mother and son' relationship. She was worried about him, like a good mother, and she knew he was also going crazy after Christine's betrayal, poor Erik and poor Giry... I hope she comforted him after all. She is great, contrary to what LovE NeVeR dIeS showed.
