I just found your podcast and am so pleased I did! I have always resisted the Ranunculus (just because it is so popular) until I saw one knitted up in a particular yarn. I bought the yarn but have still been hesitant to start. I have been knitting longer than you have lived but have never made a top down garment. The way you described how you approached this knit as a new knitter was inspiring so I guess I just have to bite the bullet and try. I am still a bit concerned about fit - the body not too big (mutton dressed up as lamb) and more room in the sleeves - but guess they are hurdles to jump after I get started. Thanks again, I’ll certainly be checking out your past podcasts.
So glad I found your channel ! I enjoyed it very much. I've been wanting to knit a ranunculus for a while now and think this would be a good time to jump in the give it a try. Your sweaters are very beautiful, I'm off to buy the ranunculus pattern. Wish me luck. Oh, I haven't made a sweater in over 20 yrs, I started quilting and set my needles aside. This looks like a good project to ease back into knitting.

Loved this episode!!! I have had this pattern in my stash for so long but I am so intimidated in starting it because I simply cannot understand on how to modify it for different yarns and to make it fit the way I want it to fit. It's one size so, for example when it says to CO 60 stitches for the neck (with worsted weight yarn) and I'm using either a Fingering or DK then I don't know how to modify the # of stitches and then forget even thinking on how to modify the front and back short rows...ugh!!! This is keeping me stuck so I have not even started to attempt it.
@thepoppylibrary
11 ай бұрын
Oh see I got stuck on this too when I first started to choose yarn for it, but I would say, for me, this pattern is one where I try not to figure it out. I let the pattern and the yarn (and the ONE NEEDLE SIZE) run with the design and I take a back seat. I may not look it but I am size large or extra large due to my bust size so I really don't want to mess up my measurements. It's a frightening process at first but then after blocking, I always find the sweater just does its thing and ends up being flattering. It's like a little gift from the yarn itself and such a wild experience. Hope you give it a try!
@donnaleiffer7056
6 ай бұрын
I’m wondering the same thing. Made one with fingering weight and it has just enough ease, but if I try worsted, how big is it going to end up? Guess I’ll just try it and see! 🙂
@Ynnsie
5 ай бұрын
The idea is to knit any yarn - fingering to worsted - on the one size of needle. It you think about it, the needle size just sets the length of yarn that each stitch takes up. In other patterns, we adjust the needle size to control the density / opacity of the fabric. A 4" swatch of DK on size 10/6mm needles will take up a tiny bit less yarn than the 4" swatch on 10s in worsted. BUT the DK swatch will be looser and more see-through than the same-size swatch done with the bigger strand of worsted.
I have been knitting 5 years, I have the yarn, pattern purchased , and I have tried to start it several times. The cast on has me stumped. Great episode

I have knit this pattern several times and not used the recommended cast on. I have used the German twisted cast on and I have also used a long tail cast on where I focused on my tension. 19:06 19:06 19:06 Both have turned out just fine. Go for it.

I just stumbled across you, I love all your ranunculus, absolutely beautiful, the yellow colour really suits you. I've been wanting to make a ranunculus for ages and bought some gorgeous yarn for it. I've been delaying starting it as I felt the pattern seemed really daunting, that said i decided to give it a go and start. I kid you not, it took me 4 hours to work out that cast on! So my effort has been lying in my project bag abandoned, until now. You have encouraged me to try again so thankyou. I will persevere as I REALLY want one. I've subscribed and look forward to watching more of your videos. All the best from Scotland.

I love to see other people's and find out what they made theirs with and why they did one thing vs. Another. It's fascinating. I have a black short sleeve but I have yarn for 2 more. I have malabrigo Susurro which is a silk linen wool and I have 2 skeins of plum purple I bought at Hobby Lobby 2 years ago that are hand dyed and I just got some mohair to make myself a long sleeve winter version. I love that bright yellow with the contrast of your hair color. It's gonna be awesome. Hang on...the heat will be over...soon? Or at least the unbearable part. Cannot wait to see the stained glass! Great episode. I’ve had the Ranunculus pattern for a few years and have seen so many people knit it. I was a bit put off by the lack of clear sizing. People seem to use whatever yarn they want and they just get whatever size they get. I did get the additional extended sizes part of the pattern, but it still wasn’t that clear to me how and when to reference it. I’m an experienced knitter, but I like a clear pattern! Anyway, I will try it again, because I love the look of this sweater and I have a feeling that if I just get started, I’ll get it.

Love your video
I’m doing the ranunculus right now in a pretty pink linen cotton for summer. The great thing about it is you don’t have to do a swatch cause you don’t have to pick your size until you finish with the yoke and I just check my gauge at that point. Gauge too small? Knit a bigger size! Gauge to big? Knit a smaller size! I knew my gauge was gonna be on the “too many stitches per inch” side so I opted for the wider neckline to insure I could get it over my head. 😂 so far the rest is great! Enjoyed your video and feeling like I’m finally in the Ranunculus Club 😊

You are not the only knitter who hasn't yet knitted this sweater. I too, have been intimidated by it as I don't really like "see-through" sweaters but I'm surrounded in my knit group by people who say it is an easy sweater to knit once you let go of "presuppositions". Does that make sense? I'm going to try it soon as I now have my yarn.
@knottygiraffe
11 ай бұрын
@@diane38 it's not that I'm intimidated by it, more the fact that I don't like to have too many projects on the go and still not sure what kind of yarn I want to use. I will pull some from my stash and sit it on the kitchen table, sure that it's what I want to do, then change my mind and pull out something else. I really want to do a short sleeved one for a summer top but summer is ticking away... Good luck with yours, Diane! I'm always so curious to see and read about which yarns everybody is using as the pattern seems incredibly versatile that way! :)

@@thepoppylibrary I just cast mine on tonight! Super excited!!!
😮thank you so much for your wonderful informative video. I have been wanting to make the ranunculus. What yarn would you suggest. I have never knitted a sweater.

The best choice is the yarn that makes you the most excited and inspired. It will help you get through the long hauls (the body and the sleeves). I am exploring which yarn is my favorite at the moment.
Good Job! what a very enticing and convincing podcast to get us to knit a Ranunculus. You are well informed of All its Tricks by not we see. I have 2 favours to ask you, first its would be very advantage us if you would Insert the Name of your podcast Themen in the title, like getting familiar with Ranunculus, and second describe us about good needles you use. Thnx so much 😊 ❤

These are such wonderful suggestions! Thank you for watching! I will be sure to apply them in my future videos. I appreciate the feedback.
I really enjoyed your video about the ranunculus xx I have a question about the needle size did you use the same needles for all the different yarns ? X

Thank you! Yes I did use the same needles for all the different yarns
I really enjoyed your video. Can you please share with us what brand/weight (yellow) yarn you are using for your beautiful sweater? This was the first video I have seen of your channel. I would love to see the area that you and your husband have built for your knitting. I think that would be an awesome video. Thank you for such a lovely video.

I most certainly can. I am using Coates and Co's prairie sock base in electric yellow. It looks like she is sold out but she does have regular updates: coatesandcofiber.com/products/color-no-021-electric-yellow?variant=42512574808262 Also, I just made a new video because of your request to see the space :). Thanks for inspiring me!
Nice to hear your Ranunculus info, I wamt to do 1 in mohair with skinny alpaca, do you think that should work ? Also, does it suit all ages ? My daughter is 25 and it might be too boring ??? 😮

I definitely think it is a pattern that everyone can wear. I also think that yarn choice is perfect. It should give you a nice flowy garment.
I have knit three ranunculus. Rowan felted tweed, Katia lux air, quince and co. Kestral. The last one was a fail. Way too large. It just grew and grew. I plan to do Ilha. It is similar to ranunculus but with a different lace yoke.

Ohhh I am going to look that one up! Thanks for sharing!
I made a linen one, a lux cotton wool blend and a cashmere one I get what you are saying.
I purchased the Ranunculus pattern read the first page, put the yarn away and the pattern away also. Maybe in 10 years I will try to knit it …. It was an overwhelming pattern for me.

I can see that!
Did you do the beautiful orange ranunculus with the bigger neck or the same?
What size of needles have you been using? I made my first one with worsted and size 4mm needles…inspired by We Grow Wild and someone else. But I ended up increasing a lot at the base of the yoke and switching to another pattern below the yoke. Not finished but I have tried it on several times and it seems to have worked out! A Friend to Knit With found the sleeves too narrow near the top so that’s why I switched.

I have been using a size 7 needle. I gotta go check out those knitting podcasts!
Thanks for this. I have seen This pattern and am interested. However, I am not a knitter of those fibers. Can I use Acrylic? Don’t judge please

Absolutely zero judgement here. You can 100% use acrylic yarn for any project.
Im about to begin with a linen flax blend
Would love to know what mohair you used for your orange ranunculus. I love shibui mohair but they are discontinuing it and I am looking for a new mohair equally sumptuous.

That is a great question. I used Earl Grey Fibers and sadly I don't see them active anymore (trust me, I am really depressed about this). But I would say, La Bien Aimee's mohair line compares quite nicely.
The universe (or is it KZread algorithms) is telling me I really need to knit this pattern. 😂

Hi put the mohair in a bag then put it in your fridge for a couple of hours makes it easier to knit .😀

Thanks for the tip!
Would love to knit the Ranunculus but I want to use a 3ply wool yarn without mohair. But dont know how to modify the pattern. By modifying the pattern/needle gauge wont help my 3ply wool.

This is a good question, but I am going to give you a risky answer. I would suggest going up a needle size or two but definite swatch. I always think having a slightly bigger gauge is better than a sweater that is too tight, but I do love a baggy sweater. I don't have experience in modifying patterns just yet so I just modify my needle sizes to make it easy on my brain that doesn't like math. Once I figure out how to modify patterns, I will definitely share what I learn. Thanks for watching!
Hi fellow Texan! I’m in Dallas area. I have knitted for decades, since I was 8, but never a sweater. There are no yarn stores within 30 miles for questions. This is the pattern I’ve been eyeing . Do you feel I can get the support I need from KZread? I’m concerned about the process.

Oh yes, you most certainly can. Videos on KZread definitely gave me the confidence to work this pattern. Also the pattern does come with KZread tutorials from the designer when you purchase.
