Note taking inside of VS Code
Dendron is a local, open-source, Markdown-based note-taking tool that helps developers work with notes like they do with code. Our mission is to help humans organize, reference, and work with any amount of knowledge.
In our talk, we'll go over the basics of how Dendron works and do a walkthrough of the core features that let individuals and teams manage tens of thousands of notes inside of VS Code.

This is exactly what I wanted since I started seeing the influx of different note taking tools. Will try it out very soon, so happy to see it's open source.
Dendron is awesome and I want to thank the brilliant team for creating this tool. Thank you.
Thanks for the stream, I would really like more streams about automating vscode stuff.
Well done program. Thank you!
Great job!
Where can I find the language notes tthat you guys were looking up? Looks pretty handy.
This looks like an absolute spittin image of Obsidian.

We'd love to know how it's gone for you if you gave it a shot! Many users migrating over their Markdown have just used our Markdown Import Pod to get up and running: wiki.dendron.so/notes/f23a6290-2dec-45dc-b616-c218ee53db6b/
Wonderful!
ohhhh, this is like a dream project of mine! :o :o ...now if only it can support *any* mark-up language...
What is that VS code extension he names at 7 minutes? Caviel?
This is even better than obsidian!

intriguing
Dendron is kinda cool. But I am somewhat sceptical if having a PKM build on an existing app (in this case vscode) is a good idea, compared with obsidian, logseq and others

The primary way of using Dendron is inside VSCode. We're also working on adding additional features into publishing so that you can use it as a fully fledged web client
Unfortunately there is no direct mobile way to use it. Well not until there is news on vscode mobile.

HTML, but Markdown -- right?!
I love the idea, but after an hour I still couldn't get a bunch of the advertised features to work. I'll check back in a couple months.
This makes me wonder. What can't you do in VS Code? VS Code OS is basically only a matter of time.
@orkhepaj

exactly , it already has its own package manager and repo , only time until hipsters make it into full distro
It seems like you guys have all the same features as Foam Notebook for vscode…. Do you know this project?

@@kevins8 Great! After using Typora for a few years, going back to separate edit/preview windows, would be a big setback. Is there a way to switch between ASCII and rendered document in the same window with a keystroke right now?
@lonbpalmer

@@PaulJurczak I consider separate edit / preview a great feature. I don't want to think about how the notes are being rendered, I simply want to get them out.

At the risk of making myself look a fool, which is not hard. A couple of questions if I may. 1/ How does this compere to a note taking program such as Tomboy or Gnote? 2/ Does any one know of a very simple KZread video that would cover Dendron, ie Dendron in 10 minutes. I have not yet installed this on my VSC platform, nor have I tried it.

Notion is much better: Both technical and non-technical people can write content, can access the notes from any device, permissions are very intuitive, has a ton of useful elements. I don't see any advantages here..
