Glad you enjyed this blast from the past. In those days we didn't have "political correctness" so we could make fun of almost anything. Now we have been sterlilised by fear of offending anybody. There were classic comedy shows galore such as Fawlty Towers, Dad's Army etc etc but now it's hard to find a decent comedy show.

@@Clivestravelandtrains Conservatives hated alternative comedy at the time, including NTNOCN, and I suspect would once more if there was a revival in it. So it's up to everyone else to decide whether to take risks, as the NTNOCN cast and production team did, or play it safe.

This was our haulage anthem back in the day. When we all had a sense of humour 😂😂

A lot of UK roads used to have a middle lane for passing in either direction, as traffic got heavier most of them were phased out or turned into sections of two lanes in one direction and one in the other. The scene with the Cortina passing the truck then pulling back in to avoid a head on was quite common back then. Some roads in Norfolk still operate this system where some older drivers will still wait for a truck in front to tell you when it's safe to pull out and pass.

As a lorry driver, I can say that it is amazing how such large vehicles can very slowly 'sneak up on you from behind.'

Rowan has done so many great things in his life, but his face at 1:09 and the walk he does at at 1:38 may well be the best things he's ever done.

rowan has a full licence to drive HGV...he must have absolutely loved driving this around all day..ha ha....very clever writing a sketch about truckers then getting the bbc to supply the truck.

Still as funny as hell after all these years. Love watching the musical skits from Rowan and the gang on Not The Nine O Clock News.

@@andysedgley I'm glad Rowan did cause Brake fluids often contain the toxic alcohol diethylene glycol (DEG), which has a boiling point of about 470°F. Diethylene glycol (DEG) is sweet-tasting, odorless, and colorless but If swallowed, it can be very dangerous, even fatal, if patients do not receive prompt medical care.

Very good, I do recall watching this episode when it first aired, nothing seems to capture what we had back then nowadays, maybe old, but will remain pure gold.

Man this just made my evening an bit more fun, God bless to the creativity of the Not the Nine o'clock news and my dad for telling about this song.

Over 40 years old. The use of "wireless" dates it a little as the word has largely been replaced by "radio".

Love looking at those old clips seeing all the old classic cars, brings back memories.

I had to travel down the A1 & M11 back to Kent the other day and all I could think of was this 😂

@@rjjcms1 On the motorway they are because its layed back driving for them. in towns and cities its a different kettle of fish though as they sometimes just tend to pull out because they get used to people not letting them out, its why I usually let them out if I can because its the safer thing to do.

@@Sython6 Yes,it's better to be safe and keep others safe 👍. Truck and van drivers only have their wing mirrors,no rear view,leaving a big blind spot so while taking the utmost care have to rely on other road users seeing them and giving them the space they need to manoevre. It's best to keep a bit of distance from those vehicles,particularly in situations where they need a wider arc than a car would to do a turn.

This song should be included in "Top Gear: The Opera!"

Not The Nine I'Clock News brought out an LP called Hedgehog Sandwich not long after.

I saw this as kid in the 80s in the US on the local PBS channel. I thought it was hilarious even though I was too young to understand some of the content. Now I've seen it twice, still funny.
