@@byronlabelle7569 I never had the opportunity to watch this in the theaters, but my cousin did. And he said that the moment they killed Daisy, the entire theater went deathly silent and someone screamed “THAT MOTHER FUCKER MUST DIE!!!!” with legit true anger and aggression in their voice and the whole theater erupted with screams for him to die. We all felt Daisy’s death.

This is so much more than just an action movie... In a handful of minutes, they introduce us to a pile of characters we've never met and know nothing about. In that time, they show us two people in real love, and give us sympathy for their parting in the death of the wife. Then they give us a glimmer of hope for the surviving husband in the form of literally THE cutest beagle to have graced this planet. And then THAT scene happens... And we finally get shown who John really is... And we don't care. It doesn't matter to us that he's a mass murderer. It doesn't matter to us that he's a cold-blooded criminal. It doesn't matter to us that he has blood on his hands that would rival most Nazis. We've seen the good, loving husband that he is...who earned the sincere love of a pure-hearted woman. A love so strong that she couldn't bear to leave him in death, and sent him that absolutely adorable smol floof. We see his righteous rage boil to the surface, dragging the chains and weights of his murderous sins with it like Atlas lifting the world. And all we want is to hold him up ourselves. We want his vengeance. We want to see him end the little monster who destroyed the only remaining vestige of his wife's love for him. And we want to see him eradicate every fool who steps between them. We cheer for the murderer. We cheer for the angel of death. John Wick is no hero, he's a killer. He's just the protagonist. And we don't care. We want him to terrorize and kill Iosef and all who defend him. That's a hell of a thing to accomplish in maybe 20 minutes of storytelling with almost no dialogue. Especially considering that...much as I absolutely love the guy...Keanu isn't actually all that great an actor. But because he's so dedicated, and the loss of a loved one is so real for him...he doesn't really need to act much, even in that first portion. This is so much more than just an action flick.

Actually I think you should put Aurelio in that position as well. You will notice he was well aware John was going to be showing up for his car, he already had a shot glass ready and he was basically praying John would pick up his shot glass and drink with him. It was Aurelio's way of showing John that it was not him or his people by respectfully being there waiting with a drink for the moment John showed up. He told John exactly who it was withholding no information and then when John drank with him he knew he was in the clear and I guarantee was thrilled to get John his new car😂

All Continental Hotels are "safe". Not only can you not do anything while you're on the premises, nobody off-site can do anything to you. For example, Marcus could not, in fact, have shot John nor Perkins through the window. He would be breaking the rules if he did. Likewise, someone can't hide out inside the Continental and use it as a sniper's nest to shoot someone outside. Part of the reason for this is because their lives are quite stressful, and they need someplace where they know they're not in danger. You can only sleep with one eye open for so long before it takes a toll. And too much of that kind of stress makes people sloppy and inconsistent. A dangerous combination for their line of work. But the other reason is that the Continental Hotels are a front, intended to give legitimacy to a variety of ventures of the Underworld that would otherwise not have it. They launder money, serve as a liaison between the economies and socities of the Underworld and our world, and just generally present a friendly face to the ignorant public. It's in everyone's best interests to protect that thin veneer of legitimacy. What's always been funny to me in an ironic way, is that because of the rules and the nature of the hotels themselves, it means that regular people also stay there quite often. To maintain the illusion, they'd have to let regular people stay there. What that means, is that at some point or other, there are upper-middle-class families staying there on vacation, with their kids running through a building filled with assassins, thieves, and possibly worse... Yet those same clueless children will be safer in that building full of killers than they are literally in their own home, or frankly anywhere else on the entire planet. It just blows my mind and cracks me up to think about, every time.

Keanu did weapons training for this and learned how to do it all properly down to the amount of ammo in the clip. The club scene Keanu was sick with a 103 degree fever and still gave us that great fight scene. Only thing he didn’t do in the club was fall off the balcony. They had a stunt double do it and used the club lighting to hide the switch.

Great reaction! One of my favorite things about the Wick movies is that he actually reloads his gun. You can actually count the shots before he needs to reload. Most action movies ignore this and allow the hero to have unlimited bullets which is so unrealistic. EDIT: I made this comment before you caught this. John reloading in this series has almost ruined other action movies for me for this very reason.

A few comments about this movie. The dog John took at the end, if you look at the papers on its cage, it was scheduled to be put down the next day. Keanu trained for months with serious professionals to get as good with all aspects of the guns for this movie. When he stabbed Viggo he came in from above and down which would have penetrated into his chest cavity probably puncturing his lung, possibly cutting his artery if he hit it right. This might not kill him fast but without help it would kill him. I liked this movie because while it is violent, it is not violent just for a sake of violence. If you haven’t already watched it, the movie Nobody has the same writer and director for it and pretty much served as the prototype movie for the John Wick movies.

John didn't agree to the fight with Viggo because he wanted a fight...but because he literally ran out of bullets by then. "No more bullets." Otherwise he'd have just shot Viggo the same way he shot Iosef. It's also why Viggo didn't just immediately dive for the gun himself at any point in the fight. It was useless.

Please do watch the sequels - while 1 is still my favourite I think all four films are quality experiences. 1 is the most "grounded" (besides the whole assassin secret society thing, I mean) - they do start escalating in terms of "I have this really cool idea for a scene, lets do it". These films are created by stunt men, and it very much shows. (Fun fact, the director was Keanu Reeve's stunt double in the Matrix films!)

That is the one thing I love about the John Wick movies is that Keanu Reaves spent a ton of time at the shooting range getting familiar with all the weapons he uses in the movies. It directly shows in the movies as he reloads when the guns would be out of ammo, and even handles the weapons proficiently. If a weapon he would use has certain behaviors, the movies show him accounting for these behaviors as if he was actually handling the weapon.

So many people miss the incredible nuance with the scene at Aurelio's shop. You'll notice that when John gets there he is already waiting with a drink in a seated position. These are important markers indicating to John that this situation is not because of Aurelio or his people. They obviously know better. He doesn't pour John's shot until John sits down. He immediately answers all questions in full and drinks. He is praying that John will drink as well showing that he is in the clear. At that point I guarantee he is more than happy to give John a new car.😂😅. It is amazing the things that can be said without having to say anything.

The dog in the film, a beagle named Daisy, was a rescue dog in real life . It was actually his first role, at eight months old. According to Animal Actors International trainer Kim Krafsky, a beagle was picked because "There's this thing about them, they're just cute" Omer Barnea, the actor who had to "kill" Wick/Daisy, felt incredibly guilty during filming. He said: "He felt horrible. Every time the director yelled cut, he just picked up the dog and cuddled him."

It's amazing how one short word can explain what a badass John Wick is. Chop shop guy: "Your idiot son killed John Wick's dog and stole his car." Russian mafia dad: "Oh", the life draining from his eyes as he realizes his son is a dead man walking and there's nothing he can do to stop it.

One little detail I think you might have missed...towards the end when the Mayhem guy gets his shot at John and hits the door, he just stops and laughs instead of continuing to shoot at John, and you said "Damn, coulda had him". Vigo intentionally gave him the gun he used to kill Marcus, which if you count the rounds only had a single bullet left. Mayhem is laughing because Vigo dicked him over one last time and he fell for it.

2 great additions (besides the sequels of coarse) are the "John Wick Kill Count" and "John Wick Tactical Training" videos. Both are worth watching. Then keep watching this series because they are all very good. While some are better than others, None of the sequels are bad (I haven't seen 4 yet though).

It's always telling to me that everyone points out the dog on the car's leather seats. John doesn't give a shit. The car is a car. He likes the car, he clearly takes good care of it... But the dog is the last piece of his wife that exists in his life. The car doesn't fuckin matter in the least. The dog is his universe now. And we see that bear out through the movie. It's not that they killed his dog...it's that they metaphorically murdered his wife...after a disease already killed her physically. Cancer killed her body...this little asshole murdered her spirit. The car is inconsequential to him.

So, I know someone said this on Alex Hefner's post but did you realize the fact that there was a trail of blood coming from Daisy's original position? Most animals at all, become lactose intolerant after they're weened (if they drink milk at all). Humans are something of a genetic aberration, but more humans are becoming lactose intolerant in adulthood these days. Just as gingers are slowly going extinct. How far that trend continues, if it does, remains to be seen. The main reason it's common in nature is simply because it's just not widely available consistently. Animals just don't need it, and usually only produce it while rearing offspring (if they produce it at all). The puppy is probably still young enough that a little milk and grain won't be a problem. It's not ideal...but he didn't know he was getting a dog... His wife could've maybe had slightly more foresight and had a bag of puppy chow delivered WITH the dog...but, whatever.
