Really enjoyable video! You are presenting so much data here. But I think you are comparing a speaker that is mostly meant to be a good sounding home speaker that also has the ability to play on battery power if needed, against speakers that are designed for outdoors use and are meant to be as loud as possible on battery or partyboxes, leaving the hifi factor aside. I think that a more suitable comparison would be against the Marshal range of speakers that jbl wants to compete with and design wise they are in the same philosophy. I believe that those also play at around the same loudness, 100 to 106db range and that this is what jbl had in mind when they were designing the authentics line. Would love to hear your opinion on this and perhaps see a comparison between Marshal and authentics products. Best regards from Greece!

They all have protection but as far as i know this is never a good idea however the 300 definitely needs plugging in to get decent volume

I don't see 👀 (or hear👂) anything that compels me about the Authentics series. I have no doubt it'll find a audience but doesn't really seem worth it vs other available options. Thank you for another excellent review and comparison, Alan! 😁👍👏

Hi Alan, great video, Tell me because I'm a bit surprised by the results with the Tribit Stormbox Blast, why did it perform so well in Bass in your comparison a year ago with the boombox 3? it was almost as strong as in the boombox and now there is such a big difference, is it the firmware's fault? is StormBox now worse than Soundcore Motion BOOM Plus?

👍👍 this is why i hope i can make a difference and bring them back to being the good guys because they gave us such great value speakers but they have taken another path and whether in public or private correspondence its no longer possible to believe a word they say. Seems like there are maybe different versions of the Authentics 300 on the market. I got mine a few days ago. Plays deeper than my boombox 3 (BT, not Wifi). Also no single Bass, i can hear all the different bass notes with no problem. Or my BB3 is broken... who knows ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ . I like the Authentics 300 very much. Heard music with it for over 10h and in my room, the speaker sounds really good.

Hi Alan I have charge 5 and Xtreme 3 got after your seeing your review. Today I noticed hissing sound from X 3 at 1 step volume and mute volume when I was playing a FLAC file via Aux, then I switched to BT same hissing sound exists. I thought I might have done something wrong with Aux port. But when I check my C 5 ,it is having the same hissing sound in one vol step and in mute playback. I never checked before at such volume or never played muted . Therefore I'm unsure what is wrong The hissing sound is very low , you need to place your ears near Twitters to hear it. Hissing sound for both is at:- When turn on /off sound When muted or 1 step vol playback When phone notification sound came , hissing stays for 0.02 sec den stops( no music playing at this moment) Hissing stops at: When I pause a muted / 1 step vol playback of audio, when I play again in mute it is there. When vol is 30 percent or above its not there or not noticeable. Something I hv done common in both is I regularly use Poweramp player and equiliser in X3 while used once in Charge 5. I don't know why hissing is there at muted /one step vol playback , and is it there in your X3 and Charge 5? Pls help🫣. Is something I need to worry about?

X3 make it little loud than C5, X 3 make it for two side , & C5 only for one side. Now I'm Lil bit curious is there any bluetooth speakers you came across that doesn't at all hiss at muted or very low Volume playback ?

Smooth sounding at first, but just as you called it, very one note bass gets old pretty darn quick. And that puny little battery, taking a page out of onyx studios book 😆 And I suppose with a very similiar setup of a woofer and two tweeters OS 8 beats that ass at almost half the price...

my eq? i dont use the jbl eq, its not a real equaliser, does different things at different volumes. its ok if you only play at one volume.

JBL Authentics 300, an overpriced nice speaker. I go back home next week so I can test my Authentics 300 against my other speakers, but from what you said. We share a lot of the same thoughts on this speaker but I like the sound a lot more than what I originally thought. I really don't like how quiet it is in battery. Can't even have a proper party with a speaker that almost cost 500$🤧

the Luna sound pretty good from what i heard. The go3 is...interessting...I think thats the word for it, but the mids are little to much into the highs, and the highs are to sharp without extern EQ.

Sounds quite narrowed? no problem, just turned on Auto calibration/or you can manually tone down the bass and treble and raise the mids quite abit for smoothing the sound.

I effectively bought 2 Stormbox Blast after watching your videos. The sound awesome, even beating down my Bang & Olufsen Beosound 1… but damn I would have payed 100 bugs more for a version without the lights (I know I can turn them off… but the silly white plastic is pretty ugly). I have send them so many feedback messages for them to let me put one fixed color and the just won’t update that. Why we can only choose between a rainbow and some dynamic colors??!?!?

Soooo wanted to like the Authentics 300 but after your review, it clearly does not hold its own! Perhaps early software letting it down who knows.. love the styling - shame it didn't have the beans to match. I realise you often say it boils down to price ratio BUT if money was no object what would your favourite Bluetooth speaker be? As most of us will save a bit more for a better speaker as they are not everyday purchases.. Apologies if you have answered this question a million times already!

I’m considering trying out B&O beolit 20 it’s more expensive and battery is a bit small, but could be an option nonetheless. Does anyone have experience how it compares to other similarly sized speakers?

In comparison to the HK Studio 6,7, Citation 200, and Xtreme 3 it's a nice sounding speaker with deeper bass than the Xtreme but it's noticeable behind on deep bass compaired to the HK studios but it has a wider soundstage, more futures and is a little bit louder.

i think the consensus was can sound great but over time a bit too much and unbalanced. i had the 17 and the trouble was it sounded terrible unless the volume is pushed at which point it sounded great.

@alanrossreviews B&O overcharge for the smallest details. I was testing the H95, which retails for 850 to 900$ and Beoplay HX, that retails for 500$. The cheaper ones had better ANC and better value. So when I was telling the clerk that is associated with them he told me one of the reasons why the H95s are so much expensive was because the leather is lamb skin and I said my Sennheiser Momentum 3s have that for 300$ not to mention the deep bass was liking on both of them. @@TheAscendedTechNinja I’ve been looking for a ”bigger motion+” with higher quality when you push the volume and more bass and not too big (like boombox 3). I really like the mids, clarity and real stereo separation on the motion+ when listening at low volumes. Best value speaker for my tastes there is. Sounds like the beolit could be worth a try.

I almost bought Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin 2021. But. Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin is a glass canon of speakers. It breaks pretty easily. 😬😬😬😬😬 I think it has overheating problems. 😬😬😬😬😬 People play it too loud + EQ with too much bass. It has DSP, but it doesn't help much. Well, I hate playing loud on Hifi speakers, but is the risk worth it??? Made in China. Of course. 😑😑😑😑

Other JBL speakers that were released years ago are cheaper, but without wifi, but have deeper, richer bass. Hmmm. I know where my money would go. I would just use bluetooth and use Spotify. Job done! Thank you JBL Patybox Encore Essential

JBL and HK recently got drunk together and that's how the Authentic line up and Go Play 3 was created.

I just send back The JBL 300, The Sound wasn’t for me. Got The H/K GO Play 3 a couple days ago. Think it sounds much better then the JBL 300. Better allround Sound, but not a loud speaker. But for me its a keeper. Love you’r reviews Alan. Often i agree with you😅

Im no expert nor "audiophile" by definition, but the only Soundcore speaker that impressed me was the Motion Boom and it stops there. They sound tinny, cold, and thin to me.

for me they had a great run till the motion boom plus and from there it went downhill

try out the Skullcandy Barrel xt. Not bad for the price but a bit weird. similar bass to the blast but the mids and highs are pushed so far forward and loud even at low volumes that it gives this sense of extreme clarity but i feel like its just to much. bass is decent nothing crazy. i feel the mids and highs over shadow the bass. also bass maxes out at like 60%. actually after 60% volume the volume barley gets louder. sounds like a 10% increase from 60% to max. on certain tracks it sounds ok but i do prefer the blast overall. bass is a bit cleaner. the bass on the barrel xt can sound a bit stressed if it tries to dig below 40hz. rolls off around 45 to 50hz. it tries 40hz but meh

But its loud and really throws sound. That parts kind of impressive. You really need to be at least 15 feet away listening to this speaker. Any closer and it fatiguing

An encore sounds good to me.

The authentic 300 probably had a battery pack of lower voltage, hence the limited volume. They probably dont want the protection circuit to kink in and shut off the speaker.

Im not a fan of soundcore much either anymore, and the rave party 2 really let me down, sound is my lease favorite out of these speakers and if you turn the bass up the port starts farting at you and its so annoying, a huge let down, i use all my other speakers the soundcores just stay in my closet collecting dust

Authentics 300... Great review. So what is the point of JBL making the speaker? They couldn't even put a TF card slot in it. It doesn't have the volume ... Doesn't sound that good. They already have many other speakers that are more powerful and sound better. I was just trying to figure out what the purpose of that speaker was. Still don't know. Love the sound core sign. I'm sure the sound core boom is a good speaker however... I have purchased everything smaller than the SoundCore boom and return them all. I felt like they did not have any power as compared to all of my w-king speakers. I have the 8,9 and d10. And I have an EQ on my phone so when I use each of the speakers I can really bring out the highs and adjust the sound. Love them. JBL is so overpriced. I don't see the value.

i think part of having so many speakers is to saturate the market, they sell more speakers that way. this one is really about the design, they are aiming at the lifestyle market. yes overpriced even against their own speakers.

@@alanrossreviews I'm in Clearwater Florida I don't think that design is going to appeal here in Florida let alone in America It looks way too strange. Seems like JBL products cost twice as much as all the other products. Not sure how they're getting away with it even though their leaders in the industry. I do appreciate your videos when you put two speakers up to one JBL speaker to try to price match. Maybe there needs to be more of those

yeah i wonder if they deliberately faked that woofer surround. it looks like foam when you peer down those for holes but when you remove the surround they are connected to nothing, so what is the point of the four holes?????

@alanrossreviews the 4 rubber holes are for the four prongs on the grill to fit back tight😅 and as far as a woofer surround, they cut out some clarity by doing that, however this speaker is more protected against over excursion

From all that comparison, Stormbox Blast is worth every penny andd mind you way cheaper 💁‍♂️

Wthehell, the authentic 300 should destroyed anything boomboxes cuz it is high end speaker. But the only issue here is Loudness. JBL should preparing firmware update to change everything on amplifier of Authentic 300. The 200 was already monsterly loud, even Louder than Xtreme 3. But this? I do think the authentic 500 is the reall Boombox killer if it has battery then even destroyed anything. But I'm really really sure they can fix the volume issue. It's not possible when they detected this problem on Xtreme 2 they immediately send firmware update to fix it.

@@alanrossreviews Xtreme 2 is very similar problem, they wayy to soft cuz of that muddy band compressor, so sounds like volume is gonna updown updown like it's stupid. Not only Xtreme 3, but also Boombox 2, and charge 4.

so many reasons and taking me for an idiot, using my tuning with no credit, telling me i am tier one reviewer with them now and can i remove my posts about the two speakers they promised for 3 months and never sent and then after apparently making me tier one reviewer never sent me anything again lol but most of all their funding of the shills for the x600 needs addressing or honest reviews are over. ive asked them multiple times what are they going to do about all those people with bass distortion and they refused to address it. people buying a speaker which is actually a lottery as to what it sounds like due to at least 8 different tunings currently. sending items for review and telling the reviewer they cannot compare it to anything else unless specifically the ones mentioned by them. i could go on but on a personal and public level they are out of control.

I agree. Around that 200-250 range is where this speaker needs to be imo. The Stormbox blast (just as the OG Motion Boom back in the day) proving to be the best value once again 🔥🔥

Got one 2 months ago, and the amount of bass and level of customization you can do with the EQ to adjust the sound………. Let’s just say I don’t think anyone can argue the value lol.
