    Some reviewers ding laptops cuz "it's hard to get at them." No, it's not. If I'm in 100% mobile mode I'm not using hardly any ports. If I'm plugged in, then I get set up and then I'm done. I am with @kabodanki. One or two USB ports on the side would be nice (thumb drives and maybe a mouse).

    I have this exact laptop and I can get 4-5 hours of battery life with normal web browsing, KZread, email work. I change it to quiet mode (keeps fans from spinning up taking power), then also use the Windows Battery Saver option. I changed the default CPU max (windows power savings) on battery to 99% so it never uses the max CPU power draw. That is the only things I do and I can go for a LONG time on battery.

    Thank you so much for doing a review on this laptop. I'm considering purchasing it as a replacement for the one I currently have which is an MSI GE76 Raider with an RTX 3080 Ti and i9 12900HK. I wanted the next Gen processor with a RTX 4000 series laptop and this seemed perfect for what I wanted. I just didn't know what it was like compared to other laptops. I wonder how the performance of the laptop might have improved if you substituted your own choice for the SSD instead. On another note, CES will open up further opportunities for you and your team.

    OK, Dragon Range has higher idle power consumption due to its chiplet configuration, but what about power consumption under load? In this review PC Mark 10 wad used for battery life assessment. Does it measure only idle power? As for core count Intel has 24 cores but they are not equal. Only 8 are high performance and 16 are so called "efficient" using different architecture with reduced cache and lowered frequencies which also lacks Hyper Threading capability. While AMD offers up to 16 equal cores in Dragon Range which allows easily compete with Intel's 24 cores in Raptor Lake.

    Great video! I still find very high end laptops like this one very hard to justify in general, especially when you look at battery life. If you are in some coffee shop to actually justify the portability feature you need to find a spot close to a power outlet anyway. I was expecting much more than 2 hours with the dedicated GPU off. if it was at least capable of 3-3.5 h maybe it's recommendable, but 2h is so little that any casual usage outside home require external power which is a shame. As I said the review is great, the laptop not so much. If you use it at home then why not having a slightly cheaper desktop pc and an affordable $1000-1200 laptop with decent battery life for the life on the go.

  • @TechTesters

    @TechTesters

    Thanks! High-end laptops do have some very specific use cases. I've heard from people that are on the go a lot with access to power (like truck drivers), kids that split their time between two houses and so on. But I agree that for many people a nice desktop + a super light work laptop will make more sense.

  • @CaptainJonathan

    Dual chargers? That's a great idea. Keep the 330W at the home desk setup and the 140W in your bag for travel. Nice. I would love to upgrade my current Legion to this model, although my savings account disagrees. Flicker could be an issue and that lower color accuracy. The real killer though is battery life. I'd never want a laptop I couldn't get a solid 4 hours on for regular work and 2 for heavier use. There is no reason to get a laptop if it's always tied to the wall.

    It is a few years before we see ARM-based gaming machines but I suspect they will revolutionise that industry assuming gaming devs support them. Getting 6 hours of gaming and 12+ hours of SOT doing the usual stuff would show how far Intel is behind with efficiency per watt. The poor SOT on this makes it only practical for desktop use. You would still be better off supplementing this with an ultrabook for lighter work. Other than that, this is solid but expensive and I have abandoned Lenovo many years ago due to poor QC, so though I suspect they have improved in the interim, I am not willing to return when there are great alternatives. Thanks!

    Best way to clone your files is to use an external Thunderbolt drive as then if the laptop is lost you have a backup at home, rather than losing both.

Not saying you shouldn't wait, even if it's just for 13th gen models to get even cheaper, but I don't think people should skip on good deals if they find them.

    I just ordered a Lenovo Legion 7 pro with the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX processor and 4090 GPU. I got a decent deal on it, so, I’m thinking I’ll be happy. The 9i looks nice, but… performance wise.. mine is no slouch. I’m paying $2,714 after tax, and a 1 year accidental protection added on. I may upgrade warranty stuff later on. I basically use the laptop as a small, efficient desktop because I have never liked trackpads or laptop keyboards or even laptop monitors.
