    I'm Brazilian. Watched this game live on tv. Almost couldn't believe Bellucci lost that match. Felt so frustrated but knew Djokovic was above everybody else. Bellucci took a lot of garbage from Brazilian tennis fans in his career. Most of these bullies have no idea about competitive tennis. Any ATP 100 player, I mean any of them, is an exceptional player who devotes his life to professional tennis. Bellucci achieved #21 and won 4 ATP titles. He should have received much more love and respect from us Brazilians during his career. Wishing him a new successful journey ahead!

    No, he shouldn't. He had all the tools and skills to achieve much more, even an established top 15 player. Tall, quick, strong, nice serve, overall decent net game but always found a way to choke and give up winnable matches. Unlike, for instance, Meligeni who was a terrible player skillwise but collected similar achievements as Bellucci. Watching Bellucci was often a very frustrating task if you wanted to root for him. He was mentally weak. His ceiling was easily something in the Dimitrov tier. Yet, he failed to achieve this. He declared yesterday he wants to pursue a career in coaching. I wish him all the best in this new endeavour and that he finds the motivation to become a great coach to help developping tennis in Brazil, which has been very poor lately.

    @@MrTome1975 Yes, he should! The properties you cited (being "tall, quick, strong, nice serve, overall decent net game")... there are thousands, tens of thousands of guys like that out there. But how many of them get to top 25 in the world? Mental toughness is also a necessary tool. Were there mentally tougher players out there? Certainly. But being 21st means that there are only 20 players IN THE WORLD!!! ... that are better than you. Just to put things in perspective.

    @@ManiPulatoR84 Can you tell who finished 21st at ANY competition in the Olympics? I bet you can't. That's also to put things in perspective.... I'm not saying he was a bad player. I'm saying he could have been much better. Look at guys like Alex de Minaur or Diego Schwartzman. The former looks clumsy in his footwork. The latter is 5 feet tall. These are guys who exceeded their natural gifts. Bellucci didn't. He choked many times. When it comes to individual sports peaking at 21st in the world will only make you special if you overcame severe obstacles, which is not Bellucci's case. Good for him tennis has plenty of money to distribute and a guy like him surely made plenty. If he was a sprinter, a swimmer or a rower and peaked at 21st he would be sending his resume all over the place by now.

    @Lautaro Fernández Son, putting so-called "dreams" above everything is for teenagers. Adults pursue goodness and what's right according to their own realities. And they don't whine if someone criticizes their decisions or results because they aim something that's not from this world. You are a failure per se for not understanding this and for having your sensitive feelings hurt by some stranger in the internet.

  • @ManiPulatoR84

    @ManiPulatoR84

    @MrTome1975 You are trivializing the mental aspect of the game. It's the biggest part of the puzzle. It's part of a player's potential. IMO, a player only fails to maximize his potential if he lacks work ethic, which we can certainly agree it's not the case here. If a guy does all in his power to perform as good as possible, then the result IS his max. potential and, no, he couldn't have been much better. The comparison to other sports is a moot point, a more popular sport like tennis will draw more players to it, reducing the chances of making the loot in return. And so is the comparison of a achieved ranking (= consistency) to a single isolated event - Monica Puig won the women's tennis gold medal in 2016, what was her highest ranking again?

    This match sums up Bellucci's carreer in the eyes of brazilians: raise the expectations really high, just to come short in the end. Respect for being able to raise the expectations that high, though. Not many brazilian tennis players did that (Haddad Maia is doing it now). He is our male number 2 of all time after Guga and that's pretty fucking remarkable.

    @@manuelignacioarturoocaranz1185 And your comment says a lot about how much of a casual you are. You might be shocked, but there's plenty of tennis of the highest level being played beyond what you get to watch from ATP's top 10 and "next gen" poster boys. Do you have any idea of what kind of a tennis monster a guy ranked in the top 200 actually is? How many guys who devoted their entire existence to tennis you have to beat to get there? This guy here made millions playing tennis, which is more than most kids could ever hope to achieve, after childhood dreams of winning grand slams start fading away and reality catches up to them after they fail to succeed in juniors... and they start realizing that maybe it's a safer bet to get a 9 to 5 job.

    It's amazing how undisputed GOAT Djokovic brushed aside weak era champ as a paltry nobody - zero wins in 10 years on any surface in grand slams before he ran away retired. Okay, I do get that teen Nadal dominated peak Federer, but Djokovic simply buried him deep in the coffin as a nobody

Federer just five times, three times in 1999 when he was 17 years old (Pat Rafter/Vince Spadea/Byron Black), then the legendary French Open 08 massacre against Nadal and his last Wimbledon apperance against Hurkacz 2021. That's incredible. EDIT: Rafa lost 18 times. Did not know the original post included Novak's challenger bagel, as Novak was 16, and Rafas three challenger losses were when he was 15.

    Yeah, at us open 2021 he gifted the first set for free “on purpose”. He also did the same at RG 22 “on purpose”. Don’t be so dense. He wants to win as efficiently as he can and if he can. If he can’t win the first set, he comes back in the 2nd set to try to win.

    Some of these players can surely beat novaq. I just hope most of the top 30 in the WTA refuse to be bought-off to lose to iga or to withdraw by the very rich whites who want to see Iga win win win. Because the same Paying Off or Bribes of players is very likely happening in the ATP, the very rich whites who want to see novaq win win win. The ATP, WTA, ITF and more, need to do something about that Probability by checking all top 30 players' internet access points (including public points/computers), pay phone use and bank transactions. Otherwise, I will be correct until that work is done.

    1:49 Djokovic's parents are so cute and calm. Seems like they know something that we don't. Even according to your highlights @Tennis TV Bellucci has done nothing. Djokovic was bageled not because of excellent or at least solid Bellucci's performance but because of mess in his own actions. According to the highlights: - 12 Djokovic's unforced errors - 4 Djokovic's forced errors - 2 Bellucci's winners - 2 Djokovic's winners But after first set mind settings were fixed and match outcome is undenieble. What's really interesting is that with one-set break and a bagel Djokovic still scored more games per match. Somebody's current retirement is not the cause to one-sided observation. By belittling the merits of one player, it is impossible to exalt the other one. I assume this comment is not going to be very popular but the true things as they are above.
