I agree about the Secret of Evermore's sound quality. One memory from my childhood is being blown away with how cool the market place ambient sounds were on the SNES.
This is the best KZread show about video games, starring the two people you would most want to go have a beer with. Thanks, guys.

I remember when I first saw Greendog back when a demo of it in a store. I thought his character design made me uncomfortable, which led me to think he was an alien creature, and was even more weirded out when the description said he was just an average dude.

I read an interview with Disney's producer for _Adventures in the Magic Kingdom_ where she talked about the process of the game's development on Disney's end. It turns out she came up with a few ideas, such as having the game take place not in Disneyland, Disney World or the Epcot Center, but a hybrid of all three. However, making the main character some cowboy-looking kid was Capcom's idea! She at first thought "Oh, you Japanese, is that what you think Americans are like?" In the end, she decided she liked that character design, so she asked them not to change it.

+Daytime Sky She really felt that way? "Oh you Japanese is that what you thin Americans are like?" That is pretty thin skinned for an American. Well it is a woman so I guess that's why. When I was a teen, we went on vacation to see the plantations homes around the South. We met a German National while there, I think at "Oak Alley" for those who know. She was a very nice lady, but when we told her we were from Texas, she started looking for our horses. I thought it was the funniest thing I had ever seen. As a Texan, I hate horses, hate cowboy hats, and can only tolerate boots if I need them for work safety. Other than that I'm just a long haired country boy. But i didn't get offended, I though it was funny. Its sad that in today's day and age, people jump to being offended first, rather than laughing at it. No wonder there is so much wrong with the world today. So many easy to butthurt people.

Batman Returns was scheduled for release in Japan for Famicom along with the Super Famicom version. You can find a video presentation with ingame footage, where all the texts in japanese, with release date on youtube. The Famicom release was apparently canceled at the last moment.
Dave's "special human skill": setting an interest rate cap on a fixed rate mortgage. Brilliant, sir.
Just wanted to say that I appreciate the work you guys put in to release a video every week. It is something I look forward to to make me laugh and learn about those games i remember reading about back in the day but never actually played as well as games and systems I didn't know about. Keep up the sarcastic sense of humor while still being informative.
To be honest - if we would've gotten Seiken Densetsu 3 instead of Secret of Evermore I wouldn't be pissed.
that Pocahontas game was surprisingly good. good graphics, sound, and gameplay. a hidden gem. I also remember playing boogerman. juvenile but a fun platformer
Legend has it, Pochahontas's Raccoon is still locked into a sub-prime interest rate on his second mortgage. What a cruel world.

Funny fact: In the French localised version of Secret of Evermore, they locate the action at the beginning of the game in Pontoise, France instead of Podunk, USA, and the French location actually exists and is where Nintendo France HQs were located, at least at the time, bit I don't think it's changed. I first played the USA version, then the French version severak years later, and now own only the latter. Some character names were changed as well but overall I prefer the American localisation since it's the true vision of the game's original creators, naming and everything, + the 50/60Hz thing and black borders as well that we got here which no one ever fancied :P. I was never a huge fan of the alchemy stuff either... at first. I mean the first time I played though the game, of first two times (I played through that game so many times, I can't remember how many now :P) I just focused on powering up my stuff and mostly used alchemy for healing, but as I grew more and more interested in the game with every playthrough, I got into it eventually, finding out that some enemies are weak to certain alchemies, and how they can make you so overpowered as well! Some parts of the game are very annoying without resorting to alchemy use, cause some enemies are, indeed, hard to hit, either due to their hit box being hard to figure out, or simply because of their move pattern, like some flying enemies later in the game, ugh!

There's an old episode of Happy Video Game Nerd that talks about Adventures in The Magic Kingdom. It talks about how it's actually possible to get a weapon in Pirates, and that the stars you collect can be used on power ups in the pause menu, to make things a bit easier.
Oh, Joe. You should've kept playing Secret of Evermore. The Hall of Collosia has some of the best music I've heard on the SNES. For Jeremy Soule's first game composition he did pretty well.

Wheres my daring Boogerman comparison? I have to know if the farts were better on snes or genesis!
@GameSack

The farts on the SNES version sound like they're under several thick blankets. The farts on the Genesis sound like the individual doing the farting is wearing underwear made out of sandpaper.
Secret of Evermore is one of my favorite SNES games. Great soundtrack, and definitely worth playing. Good list! I want to add a few of these to my collection still, but of course I already have Secret of Evermore.
Just from the thumbnail: "YES! FINALLY! SECRET OF EVERMORE!"
I can't find a reference for the Jaguar CD getting a release in Japan, which would mean we got exclusive access to that sweet, sweet Blue Lighting, Highlander and Vid Grid action!

+badbirdkc : Well a rule in this case would be the console would have HAD to been release in Japan.
Adventures of Batman & Robin on the Genesis was only released in the US and Europe. And it's *really* worth checking out, it's super impressive.
OMG that Disney haunted mansion level looks so s-s-s-scary! Eek!!!
I'm glad you mentioned Secret of Evermore. It was always one of my favorites growing up and I've beaten it many times. I prefer it to Secret of Mana. I don't know why some people don't like the game's soundtrack though. It's honestly one of the best and gets even better the further you progress. I admit, the alchemy system is broken and tedious though, as is regrinding every time you acquire a new weapon.
Japan started missing out on games a lot more from the PS1 onwards. Psychonauts comes to mind as an example of a more well known game not getting localised.
I loved the Secret of Evermore. The soundtrack is really nice. I also occasionally play it when I'm having trouble falling asleep.
Always great to wake up to a nice steaming Game Sack in the morning! I used to play Boogerman and try to hide it from my parents. Ooooh an idea maybe? Games you used to try to hide from your parents.
Was Secret of Evermore the game I remember retailing around $90 when it first came out?
The Pocahontas game actually looks really sweet :O it was also one of the select handful of Disney movies I grew up with.
The Pocahontas game's artstyle is actually incredibly good. The animation too.
I felt nothing but dread watching Greendog's gameplay. Awesome episode!
Some new episode theme ideas for Game Sack: "Games whose names begin with Y", "Shoot'em ups with nice music", "Even more Neo Geo fighting games" and, this one is for you, Dave: "Nintendo games where you CAN shoot upwards".
I grew up with Greendog being one of the few games I owned for my Genesis, was one that I felt was challenging due to controls or level design, but as a kid I felt it was me not being good enough so I played and played this game for tens of hours. Now I'm nostalgia ridden to love it.
Secret of Evermore and Dragon's Crest on the SNES are two games I may not have ever heard of were it not for your channel. Thanks for the suggestions guys.
Anyone else notice how stylistically and gameplay wise Green Dog looks a lot like that TailSpin game for the Genesis? I wonder if they were made by the same team?
i loved the sarcasm at the 20 second mark. that is definitely how i roast games
I love how Dave snickers at his own jokes.. I do that too
Greendog was the first game I ever played. I think I was 3 and a friend of my mums brought their megadrive over. I got a mastersystem that Christmas and never stopped playing.

Secret of Evermore: Just use spells that have easy to get ingredients, like hardball, level them up and spam them: you win.
Its literally the first time i ever heard of Greendog haha. Also i didnt know boogerman was also on SNES, i always thought it was a genesis only game for some reasons. Another great episode guys!
the F in the car segment stands for "fuel" probably =)
Boogerman is one of those weird hidden gems of the Genesis both you guys and I had the pleasure to find! Keep on rocking! One game you might find interesting is Tin Head for Genesis (or Megadrive).
wow GREENDOG!! so that was the name! I remember that game when i used to play it on a friend's house, he got a genesis and that's one of the few games he had back in the day! I remember looking for the cheats and writing down some cheats in a paper so i can go to his home and play! Thanks a lot Gamesack for bringing good memories back
Secret of Evermore isa great game. The ambiance was really unique for me back when I played it. Glad you found some aspects you liked about it. I remember getting the game Christmas of 95 along with Chrono Trigger. Maybe you could get more in to Secret of Mana if you had someone to play the game with. My bro and I played it all the time and even got a friend to join in for the final battle.

I was one of the 11 year olds that thought Boogerman looked amazing. The game wasn't bad for a rental. I remember having fun and beating it without too much trouble.
I actually liked green dog when I was little. I haven't played it in forever so I might hook up my old genesis soon...
you can't say you don't like a movie without watching it. that is like saying you don't like a game you never played.
@MyPhobo

It's completely possible to know that you wont like a movie before watching it. For instance if you know you don't care for kids movies and have never derived enjoyment from them you have a very high chance to not enjoy it. I hate techno music, with a burning passion, There is no way in hell i'm going to keep listening to music that sounds like a robot farting and shitting into my ears on the off-chance that I will find 1 or 2 songs I'll like.
My favorite NES/Famicom game Flintstones 2 was never released in Japan. It was officially released in the USA and on pirate famicom cards in the EU
Funny that you mention never seeing Pocahontas, that's one of the few disney movies of that time that I still haven't seen and have no interest to! The game looks pretty good, interesting that it doesn't have enemies and boss battles. P.S. GREEEEEN DAWWWWG!!
I love your videos. Watch ‘em every night.
Secret of Evermore is a hidden gem for the SNES and a great loss for Japan
Strider for NES is an interesting case on this topic, it was delayed in Japan and eventually cancelled, but was later localized and released in the US.
I like your reviews. They are very solid and interesting. Thx for doing them :)

+Gamesack You guys forgot to mention that Boogerman is basically a parody of Super Mario Bros. 1st, he's a plumber/janitor. 2nd - His booger flicking is one of the things people use to say Mario was doing in SMB1 bc that's what his fireball animation looked like. 3rd The toilets are obvious parodies of the SMB green sewer pipes
Really nice episode guys. How about covering more games that were released in Brazil? Been finding a lot of interesting Master System games that were released exclusively there (Like a port of the SNES version of Battletoads in Battlemaniacs, The Master System just keeps on surprising me with all these games)
I forgot about the first game! So many memories! It was hard, but hey I wasn't even 5 years old
I actually owned both the Pocahontas and the Boogerman back in the 90's and I must admit they're both quite a good games. Especially the Pocahontas. Recommend this one for sure.
GREEEEN DOG looks like he should've had an animated series or some weird crossover with Fido Dido.

Sunset Riders SNES/Genesis ports weren't released in Japan Pocahontas for Genesis is so pretty, always surprise me the use of color of that game.
Secret of Evermore is one of my favorite SNES games. Because it was made in the US there isn't an issue of understanding obscure Japanese mannerisms or odd design choices. A boy and his ever changing dog going from land to land exchanging money and learning about what would eventually come to be known as The Matrix.
Tbh, I think that Game Sack should try to get their own to programme, their content never bores us.
Monster Party for NES never saw the light of day in Japan.
I liked Greendog when I was a kid. My mom got it at a garage sale I think so it was fun. Im actually glad someone reviewed it so thanks guys.
I remember seeing the Greendog game at the local video rental stores but I can't recall if I played it or not...played so many Genesis games it all kinda blurs together. RIP Blockbuster.
Joe, I love the stop motion bits. This one with the double sided tape was clever.
Love the Uncharted Waters song at the end. I have that exact version on my playlist.
