Just talking with a good friend of mine, Francis Mbuyamba. He's a mechanical engineering major at WVU.

Glad I found this channel. Finally, someone that's humble and honest about themselves. I'm an engineering major as well and I feel like many of my classmates are afraid to expose themselves or must maintain a high prestige.

You mention the you fail 9 classes didn’t that affect you financial aid ? Also do you think the getting C’s as a engineering is okay since it’s such a hard major because I’m scare of dropping my gpa, how important is gpa as a engineering?

Yeah, failing those classes really messed up my gpa and financial aid. I lost it for 1 semester then got it back. I use to make the argument “I’m doing a lot outside of school so that would balance out my GPA”. I still think this is true depending on what you’re doing BUT i do regret not keeping it high enough to be accepted to particular companies. Many friends of mine are getting hired by companies in equally qualified to work for based on my resume. But unfortunately i chose a path that won’t allow me to work for them right out of school. I’d do your best to keep it up.

@@KyleGillis but a lot of people thought GPA is not important, they said as long as you can graduate and get diploma then who cares about your GPA. What do you think ?

@@samrae5590 it depends on the company. Some companies require a 3.0 gpa or so, bigger companies are more likely to ask I believe. Smaller companies are less likely to ask.

I slack on high school with my algebra and trig so idk if I should start at low math or pre calculus 😭

Lol, well first off. Know that regardless of where you’re at now, you’re going to need to actually learn the math. Me and a few of I’m friends may have been bad at it, BUT we eventually had to just suck it up and do the work. You usually take a placement test, and i originally tested into college algebra even tho in high school i was suppose to be in Calc 1 😂😅 so i went back 2 maths when entering college.

Yeah, i had several people in my class who were non traditional students re-enrolling in school. I remember them saying it’s just something you have do every single day to get back into it. Math is literally it’s own language. Just need to get back in the rhythm of reading, writing, and hearing it a lot. As you build that foundation layer again tho, the rest comes easier and faster.

Absolutely, i feel the same way. I actually find that if you go back to school a few years later, you look at things completely different. This a lot of time works out to your benefit. Being able to think outside the box and see things from a different real world perspective is your advantage.

@@KyleGillis hey Kyle, I really appreciate these videos and I’m going through some of the same things you went through. For example I’m starting off at college algebra and I recently just finished the six week course. Taking time away from school made me appreciate school and what it offers. I’m too an IE and look forward to learning and progressing in my future career. Hopefully you’re doing well post school and keep advocating for IE’s.
