I'm only 7:30 in and I feel exactly like you're describing (and I love how you carry on describing things). I will cherish my Desert King that I got from you for the rest of my life. It's going in a special place once the house gets finished.

Happy New Year Lou! Always great to watch a new video from you. Maybe you should do just a Celeste comparison video once they're ripening (with fruit and leaves comparison, etc.). It would be great if you named your father's tree and spread it around :) Thank you!

always an enlightening visit...a pleasure...just started a number of cuttings..purchased a few, found a few in the wild..from a family tree.finally picked up a Celeste...i think about their journey, where they came from? and how hopefully they'll keep giving for as long as time will allow..life is amazing!..cheers and happy new year

Very true, Geraldine! It never fails me. I always have three or four of these trees growing in three locations. It's very vigorous, and so I cut them all the way back periodically. I'm still deciding whether to let the one in the video grow for a couple more years. I think that I will in order to make more videos. Thanks for watching! Lou Monti

Not only do you share your deep fund of knowledge regarding figs, but of the world around us, and I’m deeply indebted to you for that. Now that I’ve contracted what I call “ the fig sickness,” I have two questions for you: 1) Are you able to grow Desert King in your 7B Virginia location without wrapping it? 2) Is it possible to get a cutting of your Dad’s special Celeste? Hi there, Ron. To your first question, yes, I have grown Desert King unprotected in 7-A for decades successfully. To your second question, I've answered it many times, and eventually, I will make cuttings from my collection available to the public. Thanks for watching! Lou Monti

Thanks for the video. Please let us know when you are considering to share cuttings from some of your most valuable strains so that we can probably get them and eventually plan them in the ground knowing there is a good chance they will survive adversity and the test of time. The main issue with not giving up on those filling cutting is that they are not cheap, and sometimes it gets to the point where someone starts to wonder whether it is a smart financial investment.

We have been missing you ! ❤ I started with one cutting last year ,stumbled upon your channel ...now I have 12 varieties plus 5 others on the way 😂 I bought Ronde de Bordeaux,Dessert King,Peter s Honey ,Celeste,LSU Hollier and I258 because of you 😅..how come you do not have Coll de Dama Blanche in the pot? I try to buy figs that I can plant in the ground in 7b in Romania

I just love that picture next to the tree and behind the couch. Beautiful work of art. Love the architecture, the colors and that view with the sunrise is awesome. Great for winter days. The artist did a great job showing depth/distance with the view. I do appreciate art but I’m no art cone-suer so my apologies if this is a well known piece but are there prints available for purchase on the internet? If so what is artists name? If not sure no worries. I rewatch a lot of your vids when it’s not fig season just to scratch the itch. Thanks for your efforts and wisdom. Jarrett

Hi, Jarret! I'm sorry for taking so long to respond. I'm amazed by your text message. You do, indeed, have an eye for art. The large painting behind the couch is not a print. I commissioned an artist to paint it after I created the scene in every detail myself. Nothing in the painting is real except for the original concept I conceived in order to see it to fruition. I did a lot of art and sketching when I was young, but I was never that skilled at applying the oils. The painting is nearly 20 years old. I also create and play my own piano music. Thank you very much for noticing the painting. The artist that I commissioned was good, and I was able to work with him extensively, but I have since found a much greater talent with whom I created another painting that I am also particularly fond of. Lou, do you give any head start help to your in-ground trees?

Hi Lou, other KZreadrs said fig trees roots grow and spread wide so don’t plant too close to the house. I see you have figs close to your wall, please explain or have a video about fig trees root and best location for planting fig tree. I have a tiny full sun back yard (Calif) but love to have a fig tree. How close to the house can I plant my tree. Thanks so much.

Hi there! I've covered this question many times and mentioned it in some of my videos as well. While I wouldn't advise anyone to plant a fig tree against their house, I have done it for my entire adult life. All of my fig loving relatives have done it, too. My father, his father, my mothers father, my uncle's, my cousins, etc!!!! To my knowledge, no one has ever experienced any foundational damage of any kind. I think it's best to plant between 2 and 3 feet from a structure, although, in my experience, that has never seemed to matter either. Again, I am not advising or recommending this practice. Hi, John. Eventually, after I've fully accomplished my mission, I will make some cuttings from my collection available on Figbid. I understand that there is quite a demand for my trees, but my purpose has always been, and still remains, to share my knowledge of and my many experiences with my favorite hobby! There was a time that I thought that all of my precious memories and stories would be lost forever after I'm gone. I thought that the sum total of my experiences would also be lost to time. However, this marvelous and wonderful facilitator of knowledge almost magically came along that would change all of my trepidations. This thing is called the internet! Lol! So, I chose to share with others what I've learned and experienced from growing fruit trees, organic produce, berries, and the many valued stories that I've accumulated over a lifetime of involvement. Eventually, Ibwill make my fig trees available to my subscribers. Although I've made quite a few videos now, I still have more to share of my life and experiences with others.
