    The Pilots are not as talked about in the original grunge scene just because they're not from Seattle but they're definitely part of the original 90's movement. Their albums Core and Purple will always be some of my favorite 90's rock albums.

    They are and were in the grunge discussion when songs from Core are heard. After Core they evolved quite a bit. But at the time (early 90s) they were not considered different to their cohorts

    I think it's more because they were unfairly lumped into the grunge scene as "latecomers" by lazy music journalists. At least that's how it felt here in the UK when I first heard "Core" back around late '92 to early '93. It's a great album, but as others have already said, they evolved after that album and developed their own sound. I saw them live a couple of times back in those days and it was remarkable how they progressed with their style and sound on every album to push themselves away from those early remarks from the music press.

  • @laeonflux

    @laeonflux

    @@stevepower9801 I understand the whole thing about evolution of sound but tbh grunge for me was never an actual genre, none of the holy grunge bands sound alike. AiC is completely different than Soundgarden and Nirvana or even Pearl Jam, grunge was an era more than a specific sound. All bands had a style of their own and that's why I love them all. And the pilots learned to accomplish their own sound away from Seattle and they're as big for me as any of the others. That era simply worked as a revolving door so bands like Primus and Tool and RATM could be recognized as much as Nirvana did. Such a beautiful era of music

    @@laeonflux I totally agree bud. I wasn't defending the "grunge" term to be honest. I saw many of these bands live back in the early 90's. Sadly I am of that age and I'm getting more grey and thin haired by the year haha :D. Though to be honest, that "grunge" word was a shitty and lazy term invented again by the music press to lump in lots of bands that sounded nothing like each other. It was a clumsy term in my opinion. I'm also a huge fan of Primus and Tool and I feel they had little to do with that particular sound. Well, maybe the really early Tool stuff resonated with it in a way, but Primus were always in a world of their own.

    @Deep Cut Reactions STP was most definitely grunge. Their first two albums (Core and Purple) were staples of the mainstream grunge scene, alongside releases from Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains. They departed stylistically from the genre in '96 with Tiny Music, but so did Pearl Jam with No Code and Soundgarden with Down on the Upside that same year. Cobain had killed himself in '94 and Alice in Chains released their self titled album, which was in my opinion last real grunge album, in '95 before their hiatus. The only reason people don't consider them grunge is because they weren't from Washington state.

It was so loud, the doors were vibrating and creaking. lol. I was screaming along with Scott. And, I had a bucket of cheap convenience-store fried chicken between my legs, lol, one hand on the wheel sliding in tire deep snow, and the other hand clutching a drum stick. Btw I live in a shack that used to be a mobile theatre-stage. The floor has a 5° lean. I spent two years working on the insulation, around 12 tubes of expanding foam. Now it's finally relatively sound proofed, whereas originally the wind went right through one corner during storms. It's on a property with a main house, three caravans and a house-truck.

    2:00 'SOMETHING ABOUT FEELING LIKE WE ALL KIND OF FEEL.' Lex is a modern day philosopher, for better or for worse, lol! This time I agreed with Brad laughing at her. But it was a loving kind of laugh! And Lex's smile afterwards was precious beyond words, kinda like 'I nailed it!' The best reaction duo on the Tubes. The best I tells ya. The Best!

    The video for "Sour Girl" features actress Sarah Michelle Gellar before she was famous as Buffy The Vampire Slayer. In fact in the pilot episode of Buffy you can hear STP performing "Lady Picture Show"' at The Bronz (a club) but you don't see them.

    STP are as grunge as grunge gets. They are one of the big 5 Grunge bands of the 90's. AIC, Pearl Jam, STP, Nirvana, Soundgarden. Check out the song Meatplow and you will see what I mean.

    Heyyy, Brad & Lex! I want to say first that I LOVE YOU. I don't comment, in fact this is my first, but always love. I adore STP, but really want to request Clutch-- Bearing Beard, Electric Worry, Psychic Warfare, Elephant Riders-- and many, many more... I watch you every day, and love you both. Brad- your cool chill and Lex your warm inviting presences are a perfect combination.

    You've GOT TO react to their live videos!! Scott Weiland was a Freddie Mercury/Robert Plant level frontman. Check out these from the Rolling Rock Town Fair festival concert: "Plush" , "Coma", "Trippin' On A Hole In A Paper Heart" . Insane crowd at that show.

    Fun fact: Chester Bennington from Linkin park was very big fan of STP, and he was official member of STP in 2013-2015, after Scott Weiland left the band.

    Saw them with Chester. He did a bit of a tribute band approach, even physically, which I actually preferred, but he still sounded a bit like himself, which I didn't prefer... not an LP fan. It was worth the pretty cheap tickets, especially cause Filter opened and I was at least as much there for them as a Weiland-less STP. Hey Man Nice Shot has such a catchy bass line.
