It's very rare that I'm genuinely looking forward to a new movie these days, but I absolutely cannot wait for this film mate. Huge fan of Eggers' work. (except The Lighthouse, didnt hate it, but didnt love it) I have total faith that if anyone is going to remake/reinterpret such an iconic piece of cinema, then Eggers is the guy for the job.

Who knows how much money I've saved by avoiding most modern films in the last 40 years. That's how I was able to visit the chip shop for the first time in a long time just now. Fish & chips please. What? oh, large. O & a large sausage please. How much is that? When they picked me up off the floor I was just about able to pay for it without giving my name & address. It was the "large" that did the damage. They should have had some code for the pricing so I could work it out. "Do you want the original *Nosferatu* or the remake?" Original, please. I first visited this very chip shop around 1964, probably, while Hammer was making *The Gorgon* . "No - - no eels, thanks." British tradition! It's owned by Spanish ppl now. Hola. Before that it was owned by Chinese ppl. And before that it was owned by Chinese ppl. And before then it was owned by the family of a lad who went to my school: Les Chung! The fact is, were it not for foreign buy-outs, this chip shop would now be someone's house with a new facade, making rent money for a landlord 10,000 miles away. New chip shop owners since the '80s are the ones to thank for preserving some local continuity when the British economy wouldn't have given tuppence were this tradition pulled down. And so: *Hi Les, if you're watching!* Same with the Post Office 2 blocks down. I first visited this very Post Office with Mum around 1963, probably, while the FBI & the Mafia were shooting at JFK. Joe & Winifred owned it then & owned it even after they stopped talking to each other & cut the shop down the middle in the '70s, so Joe operated the P.O. side & Winifred occupied the sweets side. I went to school with the lad caught in the middle. *Hi Joe Jr, if you're watching!* I'm guessing I asked Winifred for a Fry's Turkish Delight, please, in 1963. Decades later, Turks actually owned the Post Office. Well, no, not Turks but certainly further East was involved - - & thank God or Whoever because had those folks not rescued *that* bit of local tradition, we would not have a Post Office now. It's readily apparent to anyone that the British government wishes it could deep six the Post Office off the docks into the Ship Canal upstream of the Mersey - - & the only reason it can't is because there are no docks left to deep six anything between Liverpool & Manchester or even London. German air raids couldn't manage what modern British govts could do to the envy of Luftwaffe vets. Which brings us back to *Nosferatu* . The most interesting concept for remaking *Nosferatu* would set it in 1942 - - exploring the weird anachronistic Holocaustovertones in the 1922 original that spook me out even more than the Wiemar vampire. So put Nosferatu in the SS as villain or in the ghettos as vengeful anti-hero transported to the Camps. That's the way to avoid a direct self-sabotaging comparison with a classic: an original take. Filmmakers won't won't do it that way. Too imaginative. Too risky p-c wise. Play it safe. Don't make waves, don't make a move that isn't predictable. "If you look at a menu long enough you want everything on it," I said to the little old lady behind the counter today when I added "a large sausage." When I say old lady - - my age. Perhaps she remembers the place from 1964 too. I'm always up for a quip if it comes naturally any transactions, as, I suspect, is your good self. Make it personable when you give up your money, as long as the humour delivers without any effort. On my way home I thought about Hilda Baker. Hilda Baker is a far cry from *Nosferatu* & was never in a Hammer horror (Hammer's loss), but she did own a chip shop in Westhoughton, about 4 years before I was born. I read Hilda's rare OOP biography. I hope the chip shop survives, or at least the building, but who is there left in Westhoughton who cares? Hilda bought it after her music hall career faltered, before television made the difference. She didn't just own the chip shop, she served behind the counter. Imagine that. *Now then. What d'you want? get on with it or I'll charge you for making your mind up. And a large sausage? stop boasting. Fish'll be 3 minutes, is that alright? Suit yourself, you've just spent ten minutes making your mind up. Do you want to read last week's paper while you're waiting?* So that's what I did with the money it would take to watch the new Nosferatu. Tasted good, too, eaten while watching this very vid, which is, without any doubt at all in my mind, better than the film you're addressing.

Reggie Nalder's Barlow, as I've talked about many, many times remains the ultimate and most terrifying vampire ever depicted on-screen ... and, of course, visually based upon Max Shrek's original Nosferatu. If I had a prize to give out - you'd have won it! 🦇😜🥃👍👍

This is gonna be a good 'un. I don't look forward to many modern movies nowadays. Too many superheroes and capes and exploding metropolises and bullshit. In fact recently I've been watching 40s & 50s b/w flicks with Cagney & Stewart & Bogart & Grant. Was a better time with better actors and characters like they just don't make any more. BUT... every now & again there are contemporary films like this...directed by true original voices & authentic visionaries. It's a spin on an old classic but an Eggars spin is a great spin. Dark, brooding, menacing, probably pretty bloody, mildly erotic, intense, biting the head off pigeons... Yep. Count me in.
