Northwest DC-9-31 (N9333) IND to DTW 1991 Departure (VHS Transfer)
This was my first flight video and I apologize for the poor quality. It was taken in September 1991 on a Northwest DC-9-31 (N9333) from Indianapolis to Detroit. I'm uploading it just for nostalgic purposes in memory of the last few DC-9-30 aircraft to be retired from Delta this week. This particular aircraft was retired just a week or so ago - almost 19 years after this video was taken. I was using an old VHS camcorder that didn't work well in bright sunlight (hence the very dark colors on takeoff). Wish I would've been sitting on the other side of the airplane, but the view of the TWA B-727 made things a little better. Again I apologize for the poor quality, but I hope watching it brings back some good memories for you.

I love the sound of JT8Ds on startup and shutdown! And the TWA 727! This video is heaven!

yeah flew the Twa 727 a few times , Loved the sound they had they sounded way stronger than Delta, NW , NC , or Eastern back in the 80s at Metro ,,,
Great memories for me. I worked on many, many DC-9s and remember the sounds of those engines fondly.
Cool video. I sure do miss Northwest, I''m glad I got to fly on their DC-9s before they were retired.

Sir Time I miss them both very much also
When flying was fun
I remember this airport. We would go practically every day to pick my dad up. I probably barely wasnt old enough to remember going towards the gates pre-9/11 days, maybe once or twice, but this still brings back memories. It also had the best view from the food court. You could see so many classic planes from there!
It's always great to see old footage like this. The quality makes it all the more classic. I have footage of my only documented DC-9-31 takeoff and landing as of Aug 23, so I got a ride just in time. Tail # was N8928E. Great Vid.
Amazing job flow and how it quick turnaround unlike today there lot problems with things and passengers!
DC 9 was spacious and cozy inside!
I was a flight attendant an NWA then and want to thank you for uploading. This brings back ,
DC-9 and 727's are awesome. I hate A320 and 737NG

Alexander Wedø I do too! Today’s planes have absolutely no character. Zero.
Don't apologize, this is history you videotaped here. Thank you for that !!!
Great memories!!!
This plane was manufactured in 1968 at the McDonnell Douglas plant in Long Beach, California. Northwest took this plane out of service and scrapped it in 2008.
I was two when you recorded this! Thanks so much for sharing. I grew up in Detroit with a father who worked for NW and I eventually worked there myself. Brings back some AWESOME childhood memories
Very rare footage love it
The safety demo heard over the loudspeaker didn’t mention any instructions on usage of flotation devices, but maybe it wasn’t mentioned if the flight was only 30 min and the flight was over land and not water. In 2008 or 2010, Delta did take some Northwest Airlines DC9s and put them in service with Delta until 2014
I think this is a splendid video, nicely shot, and very good quality for equipment of the day. Thanks for sharing!
I Miss TWA and NWA
Great music coming from the back of the airplane.
Great video!!
Great Video!!
Saw a TWA L-1011 in the distance!
I miss the DC9 and DC10. Kudos to the Boeing 727 as well!!
I remember flying Northwest Orient from KPHX to KGEG a few times as a kid. Made the trip on Delta DC-9's and those awesome Alaska 727's. Now its all 737 and A320
i'm still lucky, last dc9 trip was last year on a -51
7:25 free ticket every 20,000 miles. Those days are gone too.
1:34 3:25 4:37 5:53 Music to ears of anyone who loves JT8D engines
Northwest Airlines, N9333, was formed Air West.
i like it, never seen anything like it XD.... LEGIT!!!!
They managed a complete beverage service from IND to DTW back then? They can barely get you a bottled water now.

What do you really need on a 30 minute flight anyway?

@@crjetpilot That’s not the point. Airlines were still competing on price AND in-flight service in coach at that time. (Today they don’t even bother.) It was SOP to offer your customers some refreshment even on a short flight.
2:40 nice TWA 727.
VHS Transfer...where were the Phones ?!
Damn
7:38 sneeze
grandpa flew one of these massive birds during the war...he shot down over germany and spent the rest of the war in the gulag.
