Northrop P-61B Black Widow, USAAF 548th NFS, Lady in the Dark, 1945, Air Force 1, 1:72 Diecast Model

P-61 #42-39408 wore nose-art bearing the name "Lady in the Dark" and was piloted in the Pacific Theater by Major Lee Kendall with the 548th Night Fighter Squadron. On August 14th, 1945 this aircraft was credited with the last Allied victory of the war.
The gossamer blouse worn by the Lady is white in the Signature Series only. This is as described by Maj. Kendall from his time flying against the Japanese in the Pacific and is a salute to him.
Limited Edition, each hand-signed by the pilot.
Hello again and welcome to another video. Today's example is from AF1 and is in 1:72 scale diecast. It is the Northrop P-61B Black Widow from USAAF 548th NFS, #42-39408 Lady in the Dark, 1945, Signature Edition. It is a reasonable build for the price, with an actual pilots signature really makes this one special.
I hope you enjoy this video, and it helps in your decision to whether you decide yourself to make the same purchase as me. Thanks again for taking the time to watch and have a great rest of your day. If you enjoyed the video, why not throw us a like or even subscribe ‪@heavymetaldiecast‬

I had this exact plane as an Airfix model as a kid. I remember filling the nose full of plasticine to try and add weight so it’d stand correctly on its tricycle landing gear. I thought the remote turret was really cool too, although I had no idea how it would work in practice. Thanks for sharing as always.

haha yeah it was always the case with virtually any model that had tricycle landing gear. I used to use my brothers small lead fishing sinkers 😂. Always a worry now when buying a diecast, guess the weight of the metal bodies is enough, haha

Great presentation and review. I have this model and 2 more. AF 1 is coming out with the rest of the Black Widows with new nose art I just saw. I was tempted to buy some more, but I'm happy with my 3. I also bought the Olive drab version.

Thanks again for watching another of my videos 🙂. AF 1 are putting out some really decent offerings of late, all at a reasonable price too. I also have an olive drab one, both of these I bought second hand. One thing I did notice on my ones was the clear of the canopies seemed a little clouded. I am hoping maybe it was from where the previous owner maybe had their models displayed and maybe sunlight did it or its normal, I am yet to buy one brand new to compare accurately. Thanks again for dropping past 🙂

Man are you now trying to take on the King? Sausage fingers as a measuring standard, that could catch on! On a less serious note: nice black paint - too bad other manufacturer don't use a quality matt black like that; also, are the props metal - was wondering as they have stamping on them, and if so what about the antennas?

haha been using that measuring standard for a year now....was a little unsure of the king reference, but google search is my friend,haha...apparently its a medical condition I was unaware of, so hoping people don't think I have it now or think I'm picking on Charles,haha...dont want the hate mail from the royal fanatics 🤣 The black on it is fairly good, although i think Corgi do a nice matt black on there WW2 aircraft and the black on HM's F-117's isnt too bad!! But you get some of the cheaper companies that it can be fairly see through without nice depth. The blades did have a coolish metal feel to them, didn't want to do the bend test though, haha. Antennas look like a plastic addition to the fuselage. If my sausage fingers get too close to delicate parts they impulsively push really hard on them 🤣

@@heavymetaldiecast ah, don't know the Charles reference. I was just pointing to the King Henry I's foot used for the Imperial measurement. Though you could possible throw in the "width of a man's thumb" as an inch. Well maybe not, all thumb handling mightn't work that well. Also, regarding black paint - how would you classify the black finish on Century Wings SR-71s you have. From what I remember of the real thing it was more of a matt finish, not a glossy finish.

@@weldonyoung1013 haha yeah can't imagine an all thumbs video working out well for me 😂. The Century Wings black seemed ok to me. I've never had the chance to see the real thing. But in pics I've seen it's always seemed to be a matt to satin finish on these aircraft depending on the photo. 😀

@@heavymetaldiecast thanks for the info. One other thing, do you use "Tags" for your KZread videos? If so, adding the manufacturer or brand name with the reference number of the model would help in searchs; say. such as Hobby Master HA35047 . I see you put that info in the video content, but when looking up a mode, search don't find the images in videos.

@@weldonyoung1013 Happy to help, but as I always say these are always my own opinions, you may think its garbage, haha. I do use some tag words in the tag area, like model type and make, but not exact individual numbers. I figured most people wouldn't be that precise in their search, haha. I might start putting in there from now on. For me its not trying to get the most views, just if I am able to help people that makes me happy. I saw a few reviews from other creators and they have hundreds and thousands of views and to me that seems weird as this is not a hobby with such a large view base such as that as these videos are pretty much you watch it once and your done kind of thing. But who knows maybe the viewer base is that big and my videos just aren't good enough 🤣. I'm not here to make money anyway, ive enjoyed meeting new people like yourself and many others and having a chat about this dam expensive hobby we have. Thanks as always for watching and commenting. Cheers
