Spiritbox has said that they are influenced by Northlane as well. That explains why both bands are leading the charge in pushing the boundaries of Metal.

Daaaamn what a compliment. Northlane have that magic about them that always seems to come through. Even their weaker albums with Node and Mesmer (weaker in the grand scheme of their discography) still sound good overall and have plenty of intriguing and well thought out moments. I'm glad they're moving forwards and trying to find new pockets and avenues to take metal. It's exciting as hell!

@@nickwait5260 Node and Mesmer I think Marcus was still finding his groove, the writing was great, but some songs sounded a little shy. Then Alien came along, written and sung from the heart and it was all over.

Say what you will but Obelisk from Node still has one of the best breakdowns in the biz. Still in my top 5 breakdowns of all time.

I’m surprised that more people aren’t commenting on how much Marcus‘s voice sounds like Chester Bennington. not sure if they’ve ever discussed LP as an influence but when I hear him adding tone like that to his clean vocals, it’s very reminiscent of his voice.

I love how you started talking and then Marcus started the chorus again and you're like "nope. I'll talk later" 😂😂 Marcus has that effect on people. He's really on top of his game. The whole band is mind-blowing.

I’ve been following these guys for over ten years now and never did I imagine this is where they’d be when I was jamming to discoveries. I love every era of northlane and I don’t think I’ve ever been disappointed. Even when there sound evolves it’s amazong

One of my biggest influences in music and in life... these guys are from another world... and the vocals are simply beautiful. Loved the story at the end man... You're so lucky having them that close... and to predict that on that audition, it's amazing. You were there when this, as it is now, formed and I promise they are gonna be a key element in the entire metal genre.

They did tour with Sleep Token, they were the second act after Sleep Token and before Architects, at least from my attendance last eu tour

I used to be a happy hardcore, drum and bass girly but moved to metalcore the older I got and Northlane just blends all that I love into one and I absolutely love them. I've seen them live and they were amazing. Marcus's vocals 😘 on point and this is a new journey they're taking us on and I'm just enjoying the ride. Great reaction 😁 and yes. I still watch Marcus's audition from time to time

We're in the post-metalcore era now, electronicore, synths are a huge part of it! They'll have to cry into their old albums lmao

post-metalcore/electronicore. It's where a lot of it is heading these days (see electric callboy, bad omens, dayseeker, silent planet, some of spiritbox)

Northlane are cool but definitely not bringing anything new to the table. Last time a band did something meaningful with electronics was BMTH with nihilist blues. And that was 4 years ago. Only band ahead of everyone. Is bmth

That's not true at all, northlane has almost singlehandedly started the whole new cyberpunk djent wave of bands since they dropped alien in 2019. Structurally it's pretty standard but to incorporate DnB synth and electronic drums so heavily into a metalcore track is really impressive.

@@FLmetalhead It’s somewhat of an insult to say “you don’t want to hear a computer” as it reduces the art and craft that goes into creating electronic music. Did you know that Jon uses analog machines and synths to create these unique sounds? They aren’t downloading some random digital synth sound, a lot of work and experimentation goes into developing these sounds that you hear on these Northlane tracks. Also, every single instrument is tuned, edited with effects, layered, cut and pasted to a metronome, all done on a computer in production, along with autotune and basically the creation of the final product. Bothers me when a comment like this is made because you miss the creative endeavour, the learning, and effort spent to craft a track like this.

@@FLmetalhead That's completely fair, I guess it comes down to personal preference but I think northlane's heavy use of synth and how well it blend's in with the guitars and drums is what seperates them from so many other bands in the genre. As someone who loves stuff like the weeknd and EDM as well as heavy music I always love hearing the styles come together. My point being is you can't really say it's nothing unique because that's just objectively untrue. But if it's not your cup of tea thats fair.

@@Jacksoncomplex my comment was directed to the title of this video. because they're not ahead of the scene. and they're pushing anything into the spotlight. because it's already been done. the best Version of it. was nihilist blues. but even before then with sempiternal. synths in Collaboration with the music. not the music entirely. if i want to listen to EDM. i'll go listen to EDM. if i want to listen to metal. i expect to listen to metal. the mixing, mastering tones of, what guitars are in there and the drums are immaculate. but theres better ways to implement electronics, and Has been done better. i'm still looking forward to hearing whats next with Northlane. like most bands i want to hear whats next and i have my own opinions on it
