Some of the rarest smooth Northern Soul to sit back, chill out, listen and enjoy by DJ Baz 'Sharpy'. Artists...
From Hermon Lewis to Little Jimmy Bo Horn. Including Al Scott, Roger Hatcher, Lloyd Price, The Natural Four, Richard Stoute, Willie Tee, Guitar Ray and Johnny Mae Mathews.
I've collected, DJ'd and danced to Northern Soul since going to Wigan Casino in the late 1970's. These recordings are made so that long into the future, anyone can visit KZread and continue to learn about and listen to this fantastic music, after I'm gone. They were recorded in the USA at a period in time when sadly overlooked. Only to be discovered and played in the 1970's soul clubs of the UK, and now played in many venues in countries all over the world. Many are recorded on obscure record labels, that simply never got airplay and the small number of records that were pressed, just disappeared. Hence their rarity.
If you wish to find out more about the fantastic and varied world of Northern Soul, search out the website - SoulSource. I warn you though, once down the rabbit hole, you could be hooked. I have no affiliation to the site, but there you will find a wealth of knowledge from dedicated lovers of the music. Together they know every artist, band member, pressing plant, label, label owner and origin of every track. Some so knowledgable that they can even tell you who the third saxophonist on the left was on some of the recordings. Others on the rare soul scene though may argue that it was his brother! Whoever is right, Northern Soul fascinates and satisfies many over 50years on.

Tech Soul. Thanks. Yes, one of those mint finds that I picked up from someone's box, and never played because it was too slow at the time, before 'cross over' was defined.

Cheers Derek, I’m glad you enjoyed. These tracks are so difficult and some impossible to find anywhere due to rarity. You can download from KZread if you pay them a monthly subscription. It works really well as you can also listen to videos (without downloading) whilst your phone is off or whilst you are using your phone for other things too. That’s what I do. Also everything is add free. I much prefer it to Spotify, as they don’t have all the rare originals and on KZread you can download films to watch when out and about. Hope that helps.

I use to own Herman Lewis's personal copy,via Andy rix,whom I believe has the acetate of this,I also believe Herman Lewis is actually Herman griffin! To which he recorded on mercury under both names!

Wow. What a record, and what a piece of history!
12.30 "Let me down easy" superb slice of Soul. Recently covered by Poalo Nutini and a very respectable job he's made of it. But nothing can touch Bettye's version.

Cheers, Which one Nigel?
The Uk bought up all the records and raised the prices of soul. You could find this stuff dirt cheap at one time.
@BazFromThePast

Yes, without doubt the UK benefitted by soul music not being bought and appreciated in the US as is was in the UK back in the day. Thanks to the Brits keeping it alive, the world now appreciates rare 60/70’s Northern Soul, and being rare, that’s inevitable driven prices up.
can i ask were you got your slipmats please
