North Yorkshire Moors Railway Autumn Steam Gala 2019

North Yorkshire Moors Railway
Autumn Steam Gala 2019
Footage from across all three days of the NYMR's 2019 Autumn Steam Gala, a gala with 15 locomotives in steam and very contrasting weather.
We start off looking at the star attraction GWR 4-6-2 6023 King Edward II (Great Western Society / Didcot Railway Centre)in the pouring rain on Friday afternoon at Esk Valley viaduct and Sunday morning at Darnholme (being banked by A4 60009 Union of South Africa). The King is then seen on Saturday morning being banked by another LNER machine, K1 62005, but this time in full sun.
We stick with the K1 moving back up to Esk Valley viaduct, seeing the NELPG locomotive on a demonstration freight train on the Friday. This train was the train behind the opening shot of the King and shows how quickly the weather was changing over the weekend.
We move back to Western visitors and to Fen Bog just past Goathland Summit, here we see the King double heading with a further GWR visitor 4-6-0 6990 Witherslack Hall from the Great Central Railway. The Hall is then featured solo departing Grosmont near Esk Valley Cottages and at Moorgates.
A locomotive which previously called the NYMR home is featured next, USA 2-8-0 S160 2253 Omaha, carrying a plum coloured livery similar to the one used by Canadian Pacific. We first see the locomotive running both solo on the freight and double heading with 9F 92134 also on the freight. Unfortunately the S160 failed at Goathland on Saturday night.
Moving up the Water Ark and my first shot of the weekend sees K1 62005 and A4 60009 Union of South Africa double heading.
LNER B1 4-6-0 1264 is featured next, firstly starting her climb from Grosmont past the MPD and then higher up at Moorgates with passenger services. The locomotive is next featured with the demonstration freight at Esk Valley and Beck Hole.
Further LNER motive power was in use with a NER pairing of T2 (Q6) 2238 and (P3) J27 65894. A Southern pair of locomotive were also in action and my last shot of the weekend was the pairing of Schools class 4-4-0 926 Repton and fresh from overhaul S15 4-6-0 825 departing Goathland.
Black Five 5248 Eric Tracey was mainly working Whitby shuttles (and the Saturday night gala) during the gala, but we see her returning to shed on a wet Sunday and bathing in the sunlight of Saturday afternoon on shed.
BR Standard 9F 2-10-0 92134 returned to action during the gala. On the Friday she made her first light engine run up to Goathland and shunted some wagons at Grosmont, but her big moments came on Saturday and Sunday. We see the 9F returning into Grosmont with her first train with the S160 before she upstaged the King on her first preservation passenger train. On the Sunday we see her at Darnholm with her first solo passenger turn.
After witnessing the Great Western King demolish Goathland Bank, the following train up the Bank with Sir Nigel Gresley's A4 made it seem like harder work. We pick up the shot of Number 9 at a windy Green End after she has just restarted after briefly coming to a stand, before taking a look at one of her double header runs with the K1.
Finally back to Grosmont tunnel where we see 6023 returning into Grosmont before Standard 4MT 76079 return to shed for servicing.
The 15th steam locomotive in use over the weekend was Stanard 4MT 80136, which worked the Friday night diner.

Good to see the Modified Hall was one of the few locos they allowed to take seven up the bank out of Grosmont unassisted.

@15:05 Which day was that on? I travelled behind no. 9 on Friday afternoon solo out of Grosmont, we almost came to a standstill after some violent slipping on the wet rail before she found her feet and picked up speed.

That was the train (had video from her blowing off and struggling from the bridge, but edited that out as it was just too windy for any sound).
