Lovely town my hometown 😊

My Grandfather was a North Shields skipper, He was at 18 on the first Shields boat to fish the Faroes in 1929. Onyx 2. Fascinating short documentary. Shields lad here as well.....

Nice to see, I havn´t been to North Shields for nearly 50 years, and shure would like to have a pint at Ye Old Hundred again. But it is gone. I used to be a North Sea fisherman myselfes, but fishing out of Esbjerg, Denmark. There used to be over 600 boats to her name, now noone remains...

The Herring Girls was the official name for the ladies who worked those long 'cold' hours preparing the fish, [3am to noon] but I remember my Nana telling me that among the men & women who worked on the Quay, they were known as the 'Kipper Queens'. I have photos of my Nana with other Queens.
