Unfortunately I think UNC's preseason ranking was a case of fool's gold . When I saw their preseason hype I thought they were overrated. I will admit I didn't think it was going to be this bad I thought they would be good but not a #1 team. People forget quickly they were an 8 seed in last year's tournament and considered somewhat of a disappoint prior to going on the great run during the tournament. They lost a glue guy do all the dirty work type Brady Manek they never replaced his toughness. They had no depth whatsoever. I saw them more as a 3-5 seed this year with such limited depth. It just ended up much worse than expected.

Truth! NIT bound other than winning the Conference Tourney. I don't see that happening with these losing streaks going on with them...Too much inconsistency at the wrong time of the year....

@@Samuel-I The way they have been playing there is a slim to none chance that will happen. They have to win that Conference Tourney title and that rarely ever happens. A win against Duke won’t save them this year. In the last 4 National Championship years (‘93:Georgia Tech ‘05:Duke ‘09:Duke 2017:Duke) they lost in the Tournament in either a Semifinal or a Final. In fact, they have only won two (2008 and 2016) ACC tournament Championships in the 15 years. Well 2020 didn’t go the distance but the odds are stacked against them and with four games left with their best chances against two below .500 teams (FSU and ND) and likely losses to Duke and Virginia there is only the NIT to look forward to, if that…

Has there been a game all year when the Heels have a lead an Caleb Love turns the ball over. Up by 6 an he throws it in the bench. Hubert Davis is not the guy at UNC. He should of called timeout when they went up by 6 with the ball. These team can't handle fertility going back to last year's championship game. Puff Johnson is the only alpha on the team. Bacot was getting ate up by Burns. Poor Nance looked like JV player against. Burns just toyed with him. This team doesn't deserve a bid to a tournament of any kind. They just need to make this a part of history.

It’s absolutely shocking that a team that made it all the way to the title game last year has fallen this far this fast. Looks like Manek was the one that carried them and without him they are floundering. I hope it was worth it to come back when Bacot, Davis and Love could have gone to the NBA? Has their draft stock taken a big hit? Short of winning the ACC tournament they have no chance of making the big dance with zero quad one wins. 😂

I think it’s fair to give him one more year.. but when you look at it, they played like shit for 4 months last year… played great for one month… and have played like shit for 4 months THIS YEAR. That’s 8 of 9 months looking less than mediocre. And I friggin’ LOVE IT !

NC State is good this season. First time in a long time. UNC being 0-9 against Quad 1 us baffling. Disappointing season. Incoming class is very good.

@@logancoyne_ Since 2010, UNC has won 24 of 29 matches against NC State. UNC and Duke, the record is 52-52. Winning 80% of the time is not really a rivalry. Any coach would take an 80% winning record against a team.

The problem with UNC is they never replaced Manek and they don't have any young guys pushing to break the starting lineup. Also Caleb Love shouldn't be the focus of this offense, not for one minute. And the fact they have no one else to get his points is pretty scary.

Leadership is the problem. It all falls on Hubert Davis, period! Hard to believe this was a preseason #1 team and I knew better. If you can't solve the problems at the level they are playing at now as opposed to the finish of last season, it's just not going to happen. Recruiting is far more difficult and you will see more leave for the Portal because of it...There has been plenty of time during the season to bring the problems to a head in recovery and bringing these young men (bench) along in the process. It's still too early to see but even Matt Doherty experienced these same problems...and then Recruited players (2005 Championship) Roy Williams won with...

UNC is experiencing the type of season I expected from them. And, it is very true that UNC misses the play of Brady Manek's intellect and basketball prowess. Manek carried them last year, and proof that is the truth is watching some of disastrous play we have been seeing from the Hubert Davis-coach UNC. Any of the individuals recruited by Davis should start reconsidering their choice to become part of the UNC basketball program. Your career can be ruined by being on the wrong team for you as a player.

Yes they did. Pete Nance was a good choice but Manek had already been in a System so it wasn’t hard to transfer those skills from a program he came from. That was expected of him just like it was when Roy gave Luke Maye his scholarship. It’s the Leadership qualities that lack. The team has no true point guard to lead the direction as Love, Davis and Black are not floor leaders like so many (Felton, Lawson, Marshall and Berry) they’ve had. Just running up the floor trying to force something doesn’t work unless you have a true floor leader to guide that direction in the way of positives when things go awry in a game. They don’t have that and that is a must when you play in a system where you have constant ball movement and pressure and no set plays…

Manek was a jack of all trades and now they don't have the immediate talent at SF/PF anymore. Hubert has done a terrible job of leveraging the right starting five with the right kind of minutes for all his players.

They said that about Tyler Zeller replacing Tyler Hansbrough but it worked out pretty well. Henson was even more of a said Beanpole. The problem isn’t leveraging the starters. That was there throughout the tournament last year obviously. Complacency by these starters in thinking it would come and it merely didn’t and that falls on the coach, not the players as he (Davis) had said so himself. You can’t deride a player for his physical stature. The kid can hit 3 pointers just like Manek could and while you may be a big Manek fan he had his many difficulties during that season adjusting last year. They lost 10 Games and have again this year. Don’t think Hubert will go anywhere soon but a trend like this won’t go down in Chapel Hill for very long! Hence, Matt Doherty…the lightest of the tenured in the History of the program. Hubert May very well follow that. Sometimes keeping it heel may not be real. Maybe they need to go after Pat Kelsey at the College of Charleston.

hubert is not the answer nice man........retired K deserves respect that but if you don't want UNC to go thru what IU did gotta get a real coach.

As a unc fan, I'll be upset if they make the tournament without winning the conference.

UNC will make history yet again in a ugly fashion. First for blowing the biggest lead in the championship game ever and then second missing the tournament after being #1. Time to fire his ass.

Besides Bacot being hurt mostly if not all of the season. Nance was a bust, Caleb Love has killed us all year and Hubert Davis is not a good head coach. Too much talent to be in this position. Recruiting is going to be tough, though and tougher. Tarheel fan since 1975.

Caleb Love is not a natural fit for the style of offense we've been playing for years now. We're not built for a Kobe Bryant type personality. A Kobe Bryant who shoots like Russell Westbrook.

To me McDunn is the most talented of the new guys but Hubert won't give him more minutes and he hasn't coached Nickel up all season. Nance, Black and Puff should be like your 7-9 options on this team. Love is a total non-fit for this team.

Well.. to be honest.. the Heels probably have a top 10 “roster”. Something is off. I think Davis deserves another year.. but he needs to show he can lead. He’s the nicest person on the face of the Earth.. but that doesn’t get it done. And I’m a State fan.
