    Man, what a roller coaster of a comp! Stacked field of competitors, some gnarly boulders, climbing hard at elevation, all the training build up to this comp…so many factors that play into it and you did incredible man! That finals M2 Boulder looked pretty frustrating but way to push through and continue the fight. Sounds like there’s a lot of great takeaways from this experience for ya. I’ll def be pulling for ya next month at Vail!💪 Super awesome to see Maddie crush it and land the podium!

    Whoah, so interesting to see how they have an A/B for each of the boulders. They're like almost the same but slightly different. That's wild. Also really wish they live streamed the qualis, so this is the next best thing. Thanks for making these!

    If you didn't already read it, The Inner Game of Tennis is an incredible book on how to improve your mental state in competitive sports (also on audible). I've applied it and seen incredible improvements in other sports, I'm sure it would work great for comp climbing. Honestly a must read!

    Goated comment. Such an amazing read! I actually go on a bit of a rant about my biggest takeaway from the book in this video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/omaK1K-Be83IdpM.htmlsi=e6AKEKMiPxJHbnv7 and I’ll definitely have to revisit this topic in the voiceovers!

    Man! I was so hype after seeing you and Maddie come out of semis, finals was a bit of a heartbreaker and yeah that second boulder in the finals looked rough and I could tell something was off when I saw you turn to the judges. Gotta work on that head game my man! Keep up the good work! You looked so strong this comp!

    I’m surprised to see slab setting pretty tame in this comp. The slab setting in Japan and France are borderline suicide runs on no-tex volumes or dynos into foot stems stolen from off-width crack climbing. Though I think the women’s final had a great slab that allowed different styles of execution which is rare to see.

  • @richardsonsclimbing

    @richardsonsclimbing

    I agree! I feel like there weren’t too many foot-trusting intensive slabs. I expect some in Vail!

    awesome vid! my takeaway from your experience is that execution should be a result of searching for the feeling of a movement and enjoying the climb rather than execution for the sake of completing the task and being pressured to send (and in your case place first or even podium). Will definitely think about this more for my own training and as I try to execute my projects outdoors.

    Do you think it would be a good method in finals to keep the pressure at a lower level, to find a way to purposefully not know what the other climbers are doing ? (like with blocking the sound when in iso) Although it could be counter-productive maybe sometimes it could help get the focus only on yourself.

  • @richardsonsclimbing

    @richardsonsclimbing

    Ай бұрын

    Haha I tried exactly that! I used my noise canceling headphones in iso but the problem was that the way iso was set up you had no choice but to see when athletes came back early- meaning they had topped the boulder… I think I just need to foster a mindset where I go into every boulder wanting to top it no matter what- so that it really doesn’t matter what anyone else does!

  • @felixvoytier9631

    @@richardsonsclimbing oh that's a bummer, have you tried seeing a psychologist to help you learn how to get into that mindset ? I see more and more national teams/athletes doing that.

    Yeah, your body language tells a lot about a tenson in you throughout the last 3 boulders of the finals. You know, when you're saying that you shall not have an expextations of winning in order to perform well, it's sort of self-deception. You're starting to fight with those thoghts and that means you end up still having a struggle in your head. You try to suppress your thoughts about winning in order to win, so you're still in the same place, but added one more layer of complexity :D. It's hard to tell how to deal with that... It goes into realm of not just way of performing, but more of a way of existing.

    i saw that tension too. somewhat after the success on the first one flashing it, in the second this undercling sloper start kinda got him little nervous and that reflected in the next one slab paddle coordination start. i thought it we be easy for him, but somehow this stopping move after the paddle did not work as planned. and the last one i dont know how it happened like this. he is so strong on these compression moves and...however i had my fingers crossed for win, but thats life. i subscribed for a channel for the first time in my life:) keep going man. i like the style, duration and the fact, that you are very open with your training plan. i have seen so many pro climbers hiding their plans or training methods, as if this is a golden thicket to greatness or whatever.
