Claudio D´Eugenio - I hope you know how to excuse my participation in the talk but I think Claudio that more than to say, you directly made a value judgment on Norseman ... committing one of the biggest mistakes to my understanding in the sport. Disregard a competition. If tomorrow a person tells me - Daniel, yesterday runs the hardest 10k of my life, it was very hard - What should I answer, Following your logic ? - Look, I am an ultra trail runner, I am in my 200km mark and if you say that 10k are hard, I think you exaggerate - This is not true. I would be threatening the sport with an answer like this ... it is not about which sport is better ... it is only that the sport forms us and life ... The competition to see who has it bigger is in the track and under codes .. not outside since retirement ....

Well, @Daniel Gonzales, I neither judged nor said anything about "better". These are your feelings. But I said something about being either "tough" or "athletic", and how it is part of either Norseman as a (let's say) adventure or triathlon as a sport.

Between 1989 and 2001, I did ca. 70 olympic triathlons, and during the last years - just for fun, and to hook up with "old" friends - also 7 IM and some more ultra runs. During this "career", I never understood the concept of "tough". Triathlon is not tough. If you're tough, you bear something, but in triathlon, you perform. Rain, weather and wind is part of sailing. Sailing is tough, but you don't perform in sailing, because you're occupied with bearing things. So, as more the stress is on "tough", and as less the stress is on "perform", a "tough" triathlon becomes un-triahlonlike. Of course, you can always make a triathlon tougher, but that's not what triathlon is about, because it's an (athletic) performing sport. It's the same thing with 100 m, where you're perfoming, not being tough. Think of Usain Bolt, who is telling you how fast he runs 100 m, and you are answering; "Yeah, but I ran the first 30 m in mud, the second 30 m through icy water, the third 30 m uphill, and the remaining 10 m backwards. That's tough!" Yes, it's tough, but it's not athletic. Savvy? That's also why no world class athlete ever participated @ the Norseman. But hey, people here in Norway really looove to show off with it/toughness/uphill-running ecc. And: @ a triathlon, everybody competes together with others, without help and against the clock, while @ the Norseman, each one starts for himself, with a team (!) and against the cicumstances.

Thank you for sharing Claudio. We really appreciate your engagement. Doing 7 IMs and some more ultras just for fun makes you sound like our kind of guy. Ready for a challenge with a smile on your face. And just for the record, we're not really into tough. But we are into using what nature has given us here up north. Rain, weather and wind may be a part of sailing, but it is also a part of daily outdoor life in Norway (as for many other places) And we'd rather share our nature in rain, weather and wind than "hanging out" inside waiting for the sun.

Some will endure, other will perform. "Tough" is relative. My first triathlon was tough (Norseman). My last triathlon was a performance (Swissman). Does it make Swissman any less tough? I don't think so. Had I started with Swissman and finished with Norseman, my appreciation of the races would be reversed. The way I see it is that these extreme triathlons are not generally meant to be performed - they are meant as an adventure to be lived. Sure, the top athletes are so trained that they are truly prepared for the race and see it as an athletic event. Many, however, will find themselves at the starting "line" without knowing what to expect. Many will have a thought to quit at some point during the event. Most will choose instead to endure the pain and hardship. This, right there, is toughness.

Thanks, @@nxtri. After high school, I emigrated to Sweden, and since 2001, I live in Norway. So, I'm quite familiar to "daily outdoor life in Norway", and I don't think (either) that "rain, weather and wind" is a bigger issue here than in "many other places". So, I still think that eight hours in a IM is a bigger thing (triathlonwise) that eleven hours in a Norseman.

No storyline at all, just a wild back-and-forth of scenes Disappointing - there have been much, much better coverages in recent years

I was pretty sure that 2018 Norseman film is the wothest. I was wrong. 2019 is the wothest Norseman film i ever seen. Music is terrible. No story. Again black/white picture. Awful. Dislike. //Norseman finisher two times
