Norse Myth Expert Reacts to God of War Ragnarok's Ending
Ойындар
Watch a Norse mythology expert react to the God of War Ragnarok ending. We asked Jackson Crawford, a Norse myth expert and media consultant for projects like Assassin's Creed Valhalla, to analyse God of War Ragnarök's ending.
From character deaths, to all the key figures featured in the events of Ragnarok, Jackson uses his Norse mythology expertise to break down what works and what doesn't in the final few God of War Ragnarok scenes.

The reason why so many events played out differently is from Kratos changing the destiny of those in Ragnarök by changing who he is as a person and admitting his wrongs and telling his son to open his heart to those suffering. The cool part is that this whole game’s metanarrative is about the subversion of norse myth. The point is that Kratos as a thing in these stories, exists to break up the mythology. In the trilogy he did that by murdering the pantheon and dooming/freeing the world. In the two new games he instead subverted prophecy and changed mythology by seeking change in himself and cooperating with those around him. Saying that "Ragnarok didn't really happen, so this is bad" would be akin to going "hares are much faster than turtles, this story is dumb".
The whole game is about changing your fate by choosing to better yourself so half the events in the ending of this game are intentionally changed from prophecy. He keeps saying “idk where they’re getting this from” and it’s funny cuz that was the whole point.

it would've been nice if they followed the mythology atleast a little bit, like Fenrir for example is just some random wolf lmao, not even Loki's child. AC Valhalla got the mythology more accurate than GOW lol. In that, we see the Fenrir-Tyr storyline play out like in the myths. Obv GOW is epic but its just such missed potential.

@@salmankhan2739 not really fenrir and jorm are Loki’s creations in this continuity in other words his children and here the tyr situation still played out just with garm in fenrir’s place plus the game’s story takes place over a century after they lock up garm tyr even grows his arm back

@@salmankhan2739 would have been really really really hard to insert one mythology into another which is what GoW had been doing for the last two games as Kratos needs to be a big part of the saga(obviously). A mythos retelling wouldn’t work cause Loki would have to age up to have kids and Kratos wouldn’t be able to be a protective parent anymore
@salmankhan2739

@@Jsc.75 technically AC valhalla DID get it more accurate where it is a wolf and Loki's son, grows rapidly, gets to kill Odin, eats Tyr's arm after Odin's betrayal, but what the GOW does is interesting as well, but again its just such huge missed potential to have Fenrir and Tyr out of action at Ragnarok. Its Fenrir who was supposed to kill Odin and Jorm to kill Thor, was hoping they would make a twist somehow for a final blow kinda how they did Baldr with the mistletoe since in the myth it is Loki who causes Baldr's death with mistletoe. GOW could've used Fenrir and Tyr much better than what we got, for example, Fenrir could've been from the future as well, sent back in time like Jorm, Tyr (real one) joins Kratos and Atreus to capture Fenrir and thats how they could get the storyline to play out. This way we get a proper fight with Fenrir and not Garm. Also Ragnarok is an event, not a being.

@@salmankhan2739 Actually, they do a wonderful job of explaining how mythology gets warped over time. Loki is a giant who can turn into a wolf and Fenrir is his giant pet wolf, so it's not hard to imagine how over the course of several years the myth of Fenrir being Loki's child came to be.
People complaining that a Norse Myth Expert brought to comment on the authenticity says that the game has elements not faithful to the myths... Guys think a little.
Its at the end of it all a reimagining of the events with characters that historically have no reason to be there so knowing the inspirations is cool but its them telling their own story.
"go to sleep from here" a magical command to make his essence leave his body.
He should have covered the references to the mask
5:03 why would u make me see that again 😢😢😢
Why his shirt looks like is not rendered yet🤔?, like is from ps2?
Why did they reupload this
When he makes reference to bringing a goat back to life it's a Easter egg reference when Thor tells Kratos I'm not done with you yet and revives him. G.O.A.T (greatest of all time) for those that don't know.
Loved the game definitely one of the best games in recent memory but hot take the ending (Ragnarok itself) felt like a bit of a let down the second Thor fight and the Odin fights felt a bit underwhelming
I'd have been more interested to hear his thoughts on how he thinks Norse Mythology would exist without Loki as a character
Now imagine, 20 years from now People find a destroyed shrine with a single Word, half of it covered in red that says "Kratos" and everything we were thought about mythology is just wrong and GoW saga is how it actually Ended
Mario Brothers movie 😂😂😂 nice call back hahah
If Odin is as described, Loki seems a lot more like his son.

No way, this whole time I’ve been believing that Kratos, the made up Greek video game character, was actually the reason for ragnarok in Norse mythology 😱

As anyone mentioned to him that all these changes are intentional since Kratos is actively derailing fate?
