Norman Rockwell in the 1940s: A View of the American Homefront Exhibition at Catalina Museum

In 1942, Catalina Island was closed to tourism and shifted to support the American troops as a training center for the U.S. Maritime Service, the U.S. Coast Guard, the U.S. Army Signal Corps, and the Office of Strategic Service (O.S.S.).
Today, we give our respects to those who have fallen in the service to this great country. In honor of their sacrifice and the 80th anniversary of Catalina's involvement in WWII, the museum hosted "Norman Rockwell in the 1940s: A View of the American Homefront” featuring the numerous covers of "The Saturday Evening Post" illustrated by Rockwell during the war years. The exhibition also includes prints of the Four Freedoms that Rockwell illustrated after hearing a speech by President Roosevelt in which he described those ideals.
"Norman Rockwell in the 1940s: A View of the American Homefront" was organized by the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, Massachusetts.
The exhibition is on view March 5, 2022 - October 2, 2022.
The film is by Eric Minh Swenson.
