The lyrics speak of a blackbird that sings at her window and when she had a loved one. That loved one has gone and she no longer wants the blackbird to come to her as it is a painful reminder of a lost love. That's the literal interpretation of the lyrics. It's a haunting song.

Did we really need this explanation tho? You simply repeated the exactly same thing the lyrics say, only in a prose form. It's the *music video* that needs an explanation, not the lyrics which are obvious! The video, on the other hand, rises so many questions... like what does she search in the water? Why is the color gamma so dark? What does the piano stand for? Why does it transform into a coffin at the end?

This is kind of a masterpiece though in Finnish music of English language. I like how the lyrics tell things like they are. Not trying to make it a bunch of weird metaphors about the broken relationship or something.

This is probably one of the most underrated AND underappreciated song in the history of Eurovision!!! Such amazing art and masterpiece. Eurovision truly doesn't deserve this song. This one should have been featured into a masterpiece movie or something. That's where people will appreciate it.

The most beautiful song this year in my opinion, and the vocals are magical. I must admit that when I saw the live performance I was filled with tears. strange shadow well I don't really mind the cheap pop songs, I think that is what making Eurovision fun. :) Of course I'm very happy when there are really good songs like "blackbird", though it's sad some of them don't get the appreciation they deserve.

I agree. I mean, I bet you 90% of the people who saw this video and heard the lyrics don't even realize what the song is about. Blackbirds signify death, singing bellow her window means beckoning her, and the video clearly shows she's dying but also trying to be useful by helping the dude retrieve something. This is CLASSIC behavior and thought pattern of a suicidal depressive. Begging for death not to beckon them, all the while waiting for a chance to die, but not wanting to go out without a reason, so finding any reason possible. It's incredibly intelligent and sad.

Please don't be underrated at ESC! This HAS to go to tthe final!

The chorus is so mesmerizing! What a beautiful ESC ballad ... I can't believe that I am saying that but here it is. She's able to hold my attention and it feels original & enchanting. The lyrics also make it even better. She does not need to belt & scream to create the effect.

The song is not boring, melancholic and atmospheric! Just listen to the text, beautiful voice and wonderful melody. Feel the song and the "boredom" will disappear! Go Finland!

It's my favourite one so far and Finland has my vote in the semifinal! 12 points from Portugal :D

First time since 1989 I really am proud of to be a Finn when it comes to Eurovision. And it's a long time, because I have watched the show from 1972... Well, 2006 and Lordi was a perfection even if my favorite was an other country. Anyhow, welcome to Helsinki if it should be so. And you who aim to comment something bad about my opinion or the Finnish entry, please don't. Shut up and listen. I don't think this is a winning material but it will be unforgettable no matter the placing.

I can't even describe how I feel when I listen to this song. Extremely beautiful and melancholic. I always end up crying while listening to it. My sentiments too. For me this is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. I still can't comprehend how Eurovision voters didn't take it to their heart in the way I did. I know we all have different tastes but I really thought this song would win the contest and be up there with the most iconic Eurovision songs ever.

After this has won UMK and became 5th entry in ESC 2017, it was by far my favorite. Now, with 42 songs in, this is still my second (only to Italy) and has that magic to go far in the contest. If Finland doesn't nab Top 10 with this, something is wrong with ESC. All the best and huge congratulations from Croatia. I am sure this must pass the semi and then, I'll vote in the finals.

The others are uninspired and basic... this one has stunning lyrics and it represents the artistry of Norma John. Easily, the best downtempo song of this Eurovision!

I watched every Video from ESC 2017 several times and this Song is my absolute favorite of them all. 12 points from Germany go out to Finland.

Wonderful music, I love it.

I'll be honest, Finland have never really been a country that has impressed me much in Eurovision. Of all their entries I only ever really liked 1966, 1977, 1982, 1986, 2011, 2017 & 2018. Even Lordi in 2006 weren't really by cup of tea, BUT this song Blackbird is not only the best song Finland has ever sent to Eurovision BUT it was also the best song from any country in 2017 and should have won the contest that year. Shame on the so-called professional juries for not recognising such a heartfelt, haunting, beautiful song, vocal and performance.
