They have never been the same since that loss. The Missouri teams of the 2000s were good enough to make the tournament a decent amount but then they never put together a team nearly as good as this one was. Now they’re the second team to lose to a 15 seed twice after Arizona since they lost to Princeton this year.

Possible Unpopular Opinion: This should have been the first 16 over 1 upset. -Missouri was favored over 1-seed Michigan State to reach the Final Four that year -Norfolk State plays in the MEAC which almost always gets a 16 seed, and Norfolk was making their first ever NCAA appearance. Two 16-seeds that year, Long Island and UNC-Asheville, were ranked significantly higher in RPI. -The point spread was even bigger than the UMBC-Virginia game. And no disrespect to them at all, but I personally just think it would have been way more cool if the first 16-1 upset was an exciting close game instead of a blowout that just felt like a crazy fluke.

I remember this game like it was yesterday. It still stings. I remember crying after the final buzzer rang. That Mizzou team was a really good team during the regular season, but they had a very bad egotistical problem. It's one of the main reasons why we lost in Lawrence that year. We didn't play smart, and we wanted to embarrass our opponent. The way how Phil Pressey took the final shot was so pathetic. He should've gave it to either Marcus Denmon or Kim English. Phil just shot the ball as if he knew it was gonna go in. Unbelievable.
