NORDIC LEIPZIG: Icelandic Artist Bjargey Olafsdottir about her work

In collaboration with LIA (Leipzig International Art Programme) the Goethe-Institutes in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden offer Nordic artists the opportunity to take up a three-month residency at the Art and Culture Centre Leipziger Baumwollspinnerei.
The multidisciplinary artist Bjargey Olafsdottir represents Iceland during the second residence period in Leipzig. Her educational background is widespread; she has studied at various universities in the Nordics as well as in Spain, where her studies were concerned with film, photography, mixed-media, painting, design and lastly creative writing at the University of Iceland.
In Olafsdottir’s work the choice of materials is therefore steered by ideas and concepts and displays a versatile practice which encompasses the use of photography, film, sound art, performance, draughtsmanship and written text.
Olafsdottir has already presented her works in both numerous individual and collective exhibitions. Her works can be seen in museums in Iceland, Denmark, Spain and Sweden. Her films have been shown at festivals primarily in Europe, but also in the USA and Australia.
