Nordic auto plow review with Nissan LEAF. EV plowing!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Plow with your electric car! Or any car. I've had the plow for three years now and never got around to posting a review until now. Works great for the snowbelt of northeast Ohio. It's way better than snowblowing due to being inside your warm car while you clear the driveway. Feel free to comment below with any questions.

    Hell of a job! I'm impressed with your skill with that thing that doesn't even turn. You figured out pretty quickly that you can only take half a plow width. It seems you have a pretty methodical system for your driveway too.

    Thanks a lot to share this video. It is hard to find more details on this item from actual customers. I have also ordered one today to make plowing easier. I'll definitely add those round PVCs for smoother slide when backing up, and also extra padding. Thanks for this advice. One question was, can this plow scratch or dent the bumpers? But I see you already have answered this in comments.

    I cringed a little as you strapped it on, I'd be really worried about messing up the paint on such a new car... I see you are very careful with it though, seems to work for your needs. I have a proper steel blade on a Dodge Neon I use & works great,I get like 7ft per winter so I end up with huge piles 4ft high.

    Most modern vehicles have airbags that are programed to go off when something hits or pushes on the front bumper. Ever thought about that? Is your bumper all scratched up now?

  • @timobrien4281

    @timobrien4281

    2 жыл бұрын

    Good points! Yes you must be careful! I typically plow at 1-4 mph. Airbags won't be set off below 16mph. Bumper has lost glossiness at plow contact points. This is not for anyone who is cosmetically concerned about their vehicles.

    Is car insurance for EV more expensive than gas car?

  • @timobrien4281

    @timobrien4281

    5 жыл бұрын

    In our experience it was cheaper to insure a 2013 LEAF than our 2013 Accord. Lots of factors at play but I believe the biggest were safety and reduced likely milage due to reduced rage per "fill up".

  • @loktom4068

    Would there be any chance of exploding your front airbags ?

  • @timobrien4281

    @timobrien4281

    6 жыл бұрын

    Lok Tom good question. Lowest speed for airbags to deploy is hitting a fixed object with no give at more than 8mph. So as long as you stay under 8 you should be fine.

    I’ll give ya that electric had more torque but it certainly doesn’t have more weight. The battery’s weigh far less than a tank of gas and the electric motor weighs less than an internal combustion engine. Then add to that the plastic body work and the short frame, you don’t have near as much weight as say a truck or and suv which would usually be used to plow snow. Also be careful when you get to the end of the driveway, without the ability to lift the plow you risk putting now into the street which is illegal.

  • @timobrien4281

    @timobrien4281

    4 жыл бұрын

    True it weights less than a vehicle normally used for plowing but it weighs more than a similar sized gas car(3,291 lbs[648 battery]for the leaf vs. 2,354 lbs for Versa). Good point on not plowing the public roads. I live on a private road so no issues but most people would have to be careful of that.

    so you said that once the plow is hooked onto the vehicle, like I saw when the car was in the garage, this CANNOT be raised or lowered and from what it looked like, the bottom of the plow was actually scraping on the ground, so if you cant lowere or raise it after its put on, how well does that bottom portion of the plow actually hold up from all of the scraping on the pavement, and since you cant raise the plow after you go forward as far as you need to, when you reverse, really looks like snow can Really build up on the backside of the plow and I dont know if that could be a good thing or not, Also Noticed that those straps, a number of times when you pushed the snow, pretty much ALL of them, really never stayed tight, menaing the straps loonsed up quite a bit but then tightend up again when you put the car into reverse...... I would rather have a plow that can be actually raised and lowered AND turned left and right, just like all those regular ones I see on the fronts of trucks..... and secondly, those 2 BIG bars that the straps and the plow are attached to, are those pretty safe meaning, after all of the straps are hooked up to their correct positions on the car and tightend, is there any way that those bars on the front of the car, could they somehow move back and forth and possibly do some damage to the front of the vehicle by hitting it???????

  • @timobrien4281

    @timobrien4281

    5 жыл бұрын

    Correct, this plow can not be raised. When you back up you should only back over places that you already plowed. This is meant for your own house. Judging by the four years that I've used it I'd say the blade scraping will last about 30 years(mostly slides on top of the packed snow). Keep in mind if commercial that would be less than one year of use though(30+ driveways all season). Think of this as a budget option to replace shoveling or snow blowing, but not as a replacement for a commercial plow.

  • @timobrien4281

    @timobrien4281

    And yes the straps should only be tight when you are backing up. Not while pushing.

    eraldorh There should be very minimal risk of denting the bumper as long as it's not pre 1980's. The TPO bumpers of today very impact resistant due to government mandates from the 1970's.
