    It's an interesting instrument, with very usable sounds. I can definitely see the value of having a straightforward dedicated box like this. It takes a few extra steps to accomplish the same results in jack of all trades synths. eg. Decay time controlled by velocity takes up two mod slots out of the 6 available on my Virus Ti2 ( i.e. having the the decay modulate itself in one slot (positive values shorten decay time) , then using velocity to control the depth of that modulation in another slot) .. This recursive modulation technique is very useful to get dynamic drum sounds..

    When you control a synth over a midi cable, you send it information called “note on/off” events - usually from another synth or your computer. But there are other messages that can be sent, and one type are “CC” messages. CC stands for “continuous controller” and is a way to turn knobs on a synth remotely (though the knobs do not physically turn). You can learn more about midi CCs here! www.sweetwater.com/insync/continuous-controller/

    This is so awesome. I really appreciate you showing how you can incorporate the 3p as a tool beyond a drummer's perspective (I got sticks myself but have always been more of a keys guy). I wondered how I might incorporate 3P into an Ableton set - showing us how you are using it, playing midi clips while performing one of the 3p's instrument/sound in note mode (just like you could with a Ableton Live instrument or a VST) just broadened my interest in buying it and helping it find a home in my equipment stack. Oh and the stone marimba.. I think you are talking about a lithophone?

    I don't drum, but my drummer friends *love* it when I drag out the NordDrum for them...they always squeal about how they love it's response to stick-drumming. That said, I've had the Norddrum for a year or so and it's not going to be leaving anytime soon. And yes...Lithopone. That was it. :)

    Nice showcase of the sound-design capabilities. Does the Nord Drum pitch chromatically (ie. plug in a MIDI keyboard and play a single drum melodically)? Or is it a case of manually pitching every single drum, to different tracks? I hope it's the former, as this basically opens this up as a synth module.

  • @synthseeker

    @synthseeker

    2 ай бұрын

    Either. :) you can configure it to respond to a single midi channel in which case each drum is assigned to respond to a particular midi note, or you can configure it to have each of the six engines listen on a unique midi channel and note number on each is then mapped to pitch.

    both... I mean, in the Nord Drum one can design unique sounds not possible to find on average electronic drum kits. so just wondered if is possible to make drum kits on the Nord Drum and save them as a kit and download them to typical electron drum kits later.... maybe one does not even have to play on the Nord Drum but just connect it to the Logic Pro and make the sounds and modify them in Logic Pro directly as long as the Nord Drum is connected? I think due to the pads and the fact that they take a beating that the condition used is often perceived as "beat up". Also the Nord Drum 2 doesn't have pads and is very desirable...the prices on those is going up on the used market. this all tends to drive the prices on used 3Ps down. Nord gear is pretty universally well built. It's not a quality issue. :)

    You can configure the 3P so that each drum responds to its own midi channel. Do that if you want to use them as individual mono synths. You would use the Ableton external instrument device (six, each on it's own track) to accomplish this. You should check the documentation at Ableton for how to use that device. Is you want to just use it as a drum synth controlled by the Push, you can set it to use a global midi channel and again, use an external device plugin within Ableton to send notes from the Push to the 3P. I'll try to do a video detailing this in the coming days. :)
