Nora Brown, Stephanie Coleman, James Shipp: "Am I Born to Die" (Am. trad.)

Музыка

2023 marks the centennial of legendary North Carolina folk musician Doc Watson, and there's a new star-studded tribute album called 'I Am A Pilgrim - Doc Watson at 100', produced by Grammy Award-winning guitarist, songwriter, and producer Matthew Stevens, who invited teen banjo phenom Nora Brown, fiddler Stephanie Coleman, and musician James Shipp to play some of the songs Watson had championed in-studio for the #SoundcheckPodcast.

So refreshing to watch you grow up, and stay true to your roots. Don’t ever change, girl.

Nora and Stephanie together are such a mystical spiritual blend that always reaches deep into the soul of the listener. I'd love to hear an album of just these two, maybe even a double album! I (as a semi-professional fiddler)admire Stephanie's sense of timing, ease of playing and intricate subtle variants that she uses to keep the tune alive and flowing. And Nora always reaches deep within to give her best yet understated performances, always leaving me wanting to hear more from those depths of hers.

Nora is really an old soul. Such depth of feeling. And you can hear that Gaelic spirit channeled through time and the Appalachians into these wonderful musicians. And lovely to shift into the dance tune. Dread, and then momentary joy. Seize the day. Be here now.

That's a good question, what is the "DMS" free-reed instrument and who makes it? It sounds so deep and soulful throughout the hymn.
