Nights after nights I roam in the dark alleys of my life looking for a lamp and then someone to light it, rarely I am successful, this is is one of those rare occasions Faiz and Noor, this alignment of 2 bright stars has given me enough light to continue my journey till I encounter another turn, some more darkness until then Noor will light Faiz more than enough for now, I will breath a few more breaths.

MADAM NOOR KNOWS EXACTLY WHAT FEELINGS FAIZ HAS COMPOSED IN HIS GHAZAL AND ALSO KNOWS HOW TO RENDER THEM THROUGH HER GREAT VOICE. THE ARTS N FEELINGS OF THE TWO GREATS ARE COMPLEMENTING EACH OTHER IN A GREAT WAY.

আমি হিন্দী বুঝি না তেমন। কবিতা গানের ভাষা তো আরোই না। কিন্তু আশ্চর্য এই গান ! শুধু সুরেই যা মাদকতা ছড়ালো তাতেই বিভোর হয়ে গেলাম ! সম্রাজ্ঞী নুরজাহান !!!

Absolutely

This is the Gold Standard and a bench mark for singing a ghazal. Most ghazal singers have no control over the diction, eat end words of the lines and delivery doesn't express the meaning of the shair. Some overdo the raag and lose the beauty of the shair. Madam Noor Jahan is unbelievable and is at the highest level of professionalism. Mind boggling ghazal singing skill. I have never come across anyone with this clarity and command.

Thanks for the excellent translation. However the first two lines have a more profound meaning. "Sahar" doesn't mean breez. Sahar means the dawn or morning. The poet is further emphasizing that the long endless night continues and many mornings have come and gone in search of you (to end this long night). This is how I understood it.

It must be very old. Noorjahan does not have that crackle in her voice that she developed later in life like LATA. SO smooth and beautiful here.

Thank you for liking, yes it was most probably 1967 or 68 When NJ recorded these this ghazal by Faiz Ahmed Faiz and one poem ' Aa ke wabasta hain uss husn ki yadein tujh se. Later on Mehdi Hasan and scores of others sang it.

It starts with, Flowers didn't blossom, you never came, there was no wine, this was a kind of spring. Another couplet reads, "they didn't like what I never wrote", nothing like these verses, thoughts or the expressions is on the horizon; go back, and see what I wrote earlier!!! the skies are spinning, the TIME is waiting. and it will wait, just like I do.

@Sochiye. Aap ne yeh wazahat kar ke hame soch ka aik naya zaawiya diya hai. Faiz was a revolutionary poet and his poems were often viewed by the subsequent Pak regimes as hits on them. I admit the original has the thunder of Faiz saheb's kalam. It's sad that with all their power they were scared of a poet's verse. It's true, pen is stronger than the sword.

She was offered burial by national honor by General Mushraaf but he wanted atleast 3 days to make the arrangements which is quite understandable but her family (her daughters) turned it down because she died on 27th of Ramzan and they wanted her to be buried the same day which is the greatest of the nights for Muslims, her family preferred eternal rather material world and we should all respect that.

Seems you have not heard this Ghazal, by Habib Wali Muhammad. I think no one else can sing this better than him. Well, one's own choice. But, do listen to him

Yes no one has ever sung a Ghazal with this clarity and expression. The same Ghazal is sung by Mehdi Hassan and Habib Wali Mohamed but this one is phenomenal. If you appreciate Faiz's poetry and understand the intricacies then this singing has done all the justice to his poetry.

I totally agree Fahad sb, you have stated well the state of art n living, which has now totally changed and with growing technology we are so helpless but i still njoy listening to the old voices, NoorjahaN... Old melody is just like old wine... So soulful ghazal, the more i listen to ut, the more i drowned into the old realm of reality, emotions, and a sea of thoughts emerges just like the giant waves
