Only Nurjahan could have done justice to this out standing song with sublime lyrics. A great singer from a bygone era. I am 82 and still remember her songs from ------Anmol Ghadi, Zeenat,Jugnu,Badi Ma,Dupatta,etc.The Pakistani programme-----Virsa------Do Sitaron Ka Milan,truly said that it is so difficult to compare Lata Mangeshkar with Nur Jahan,both being great on their own. legend has it that when Faiz Sb. was in Jail during late 1950's, Madam was asked to sing at a function where top brass was present. she started with this song and was stopped & asked to sing something else....she refused & left. On hearing this, Faiz Sb. wrote this Nazam on a piece of paper & presented it to Madam...and said 'from today it belong to her'

No match of noorjahan. No match of nusrat khan. No match of mehdi hassan khan. No match of music queen ara roshan. What a co.incident that " han" comes at the end of all 4 legends, names.

This is truly a gifted voice from almighty for the people of this century and ahead

I have listen many songs till now in my young age but undisputedly, I recommend this is the most fantatic and number one gazal. In which the reality is decribed using peral like words. MADAM SUNG THE LYRICS OF THIS GAZAL IN UNFORTGETTABLE WAY. I ALWAYS REMEBER TUNE OF THIS GAZAL. MY WORD GETTING SHORT TO DESCIRBE THE GAZAL. BUT TOO UNDERSTAND YOUR URDU MUST BE GOOD.MAY SOULS OF BOTH MADAM NOOR JAHAN AND FAIZ AHMED FAIZ STAY IN HEAVENS.

Written by Faiz while being imprisoned in Hyderabad jail. It was meant as a devotion to his true ideal of that period, i.e. Communism. That was an integrity that remained unwavering in his later poems. A man that was true to his heart in this life :)

A dream cum true.WHEN I WAS STUDYING IN ENGINEERIG at jodhpur rajasthan INDIA WE USE TO LISTEN RADIO CEYLONE from 10 -11 pm on sundays in the year 1962 in programme abhi tp mein jawan to listen such songs. thanx for posting.

Faiz ka qalaam bemisaal hai. He was a poet very different from others: Though he describes the agony of love and eternal love at same time at end it ends with taking care of oneself and moving on..... Acceptance of love and it's loss but then there is always light after darkness. Ex: aur bhii dukh hain zamaane mein mohabbat ke siva raahatein aur bhii hain vasl ki raahat ke siva That is why Faiz and Ghalibjee are my absolute favorite poets of Urdu zubaan.

Excellent song. Both Madam Noor Jahan and Faiz Ahmad Faiz are at their best.

It is unfortunate that we lost her for Pakistan after partition. Had she remained in India, she would have been a 'Bharat Ratna' along with Lata Mangeshkar. Sadly enough, she had to die in isolation and penury in ungrateful Pakistan. Even today, she has lots of fans in India.
