Excellent. Thank you for answering a lot of our NPC questions. We already have earned income strategies which we referred to as project plans. We will change that to strategies.

This is a great topic, I've been sitting with my board and figuring out what this looks like for us as an Urban Development Lab we have a lot of skills to leverage. Government contracting and services seems to be an easy way in for us. Most nonprofit organizations are packed with talent and skills that go unused or underutilized.

This cleared up a lot of questions about what type of nonprofit will work for me. Think the nonprofit operating foundation model will work for me. Thank you

Do I have to use the name of the nonprofit for the earned income? For example I want to have a mentoring program. If I put it in my name or a different name, is that considered earned income for the nonprofit? I have a number of things I want to do but maybe not necessarily put in nonprofit name. 13:39

Hey there, in this case an earned income strategy is a fundraising strategy within your nonprofit, it's not a separate organization or business. So you would want to keep it under the nonprofit. If you want to start a separate business just for yourself then donate some money to the charity, that's a different thing! Hope that helps.

I wanted to ask a question, is it normal for a starting organization to stagnate? 🤔

What if the merch is branded with the name of the non-profit and the slogans are directly aimed at what the brand represents? Example: Dog and pup rescue where T-shirts have slogans and/or messages that encourage kindness to dogs in need or the importance of rescuing? Also, I have had an idea for a non-profit since 2019. I have volunteer ambassadors lined up who believe in the cause and have created and designed my own branded merch to assist in raising funds for the event donations are not available, but my issue is trust. How do I find trustworthy candidates to fill the board members and staff without worry. After hearing all of this, I am thinking a safer and easier route to achieve my mission of community outreach would be, to "scratch the earned income model," and just create a link for donations? Any thoughts on this anyone?

Hmm ... the merch idea is a gray area in my opinion, and you may want to talk to an accountant. To avoid Unrelated Business Income the services / products need to be a part of the actual mission - for example, there's a dog rescue I know of who has a shop that sells affordable pet supplies. Since dog owners who rescue pets need pet supplies, and the items are affordable, the shop is literally contributing to achieving the mission.
