Non-Translatable Ayurvedic Words

Dr Bhaswati Bhattacharya explains why certain Sanskrit words used in Ayurveda cannot be accurately translated into English because those concepts are not found in Western science. The examples explained include: krimi (nowadays being called microbiome), agni, ama, grahi, bhasma, rasa, shodhana, and dosha. She also critiques the western tendency of positivism in science. This episode is extremely informative for Westernized and English-speaking audiences wanting to understand the metaphysics of Ayurveda in a simple way.

    Thank you Rajivji and Dr. Bhatattacharyaji, it was mesmerizing to hear your talk on Ayurvedic Non-translatable. It captures the essence of Rajivjis project of Sanskrit Non- Translatable. It was great to hear the connection of racial supremacy in discrediting such an important treasure of the Ayurvedic knowledge system. Congratulations to both of you and looking forward to a future live conference on this topic.

    very interesting and illuminating discussion. it is a great and noble effort to undo injustices and disservices to bhaarateeya gyan over centuries and truly appreciate these efforts. english vocabulary already has many words derived from samskrita. example, 'grab' does sound more like 'graah' 🙂 english should get more from bharateeya bhasas to be enriched further.

    Logical positivism defines the attainable limits of human knowledge, subject to logical positivism. We can state, with absolute confidence, that any experiental knowledge, any intuition, any metaphysical conjecture, any divine relevation, so understood, is not logically positive knowledge.

    Quality control will certainly ensure bhasma will benefit masses. Even sugar (sucrose) is toxic if not taken properly Love the term Digestion Agni. It should be mainstream medicine word.

  • @DINacharyaInstitute

    @DINacharyaInstitute

    3 жыл бұрын

    Think about who decides the parameters of quality control. The ones who are in the production of medicine just for profit will NEVER make the best medicine. When Wellcome and the pharmacy industry supported the separation of doctor and pharmacy in the 1850s, they did not do it for concern of the patient. They did it for greed, creating big problems for future generations and encouraging profit from medicine. If you want the best bhasma, you MUST get them from an actual physician who makes them. The masses will never get REAL bhasma. It is the law of nature: nanoparticles for nanopopulations. 2. Refined sugar is always toxic. Fresh sugar cane bitten from the freshly- and properly-harvested cane heals liver disease and diabetes. Who teaches this anymore??? 3. Digestion agni is different from fire agni. AGNI = that which engulfs what it touches. Agni is not just fire... but fire is a type of agni. Indeed, it should be mainstream medicine...!

    As a person practicing modern medicine and a learner of ayurveda, I have come to the understanding that agni is something which is present in all cells and cell death means there is no more agni.I always wonder if agni could be correlated as the metabolic energy in the form of ATP molecules which are the energy currency required for all the cellular processes in all the cells.!!!????

  • @DINacharyaInstitute

    @DINacharyaInstitute

    3 жыл бұрын

    ATP is a kind of agni... but agni is not = to ATP. [AGNI = that which engulfs what it touches. Agni is not just fire... but fire is a type of agni.] There are many, many things that engulf: Golgi, RER, and movements in and out of the nucleus are all guided by agni. But there is something at play more than ATP that guides the metabolism, catabolism and anabolism... What is it? That force that calls in a conscious decision to engulf another thing is missing in modern cell biology.

    Sanskrit is context dominant suiting a geography & then life and people involved with Sanskrit. Sanskrit also is "Cultured" & not just read. Contemporary is Content dominant suting modern world. Good or bad is not said by that. Ayurveda certainly is rich but "Past" must be "Enlivened". "Sri" is thus used by Ancients to do that or they use "Atha" (Now). So, if Ayurveda cannot be Enlivened in language and physiology relevant, it will be a Mythology type of Ancient great civilization only. Example: Bhuta can be body / past / dead etc etc as well depending on context. This thought process (from the source) belongs to ones who are in that state. Bhuta as Virus do not distinguish virus differences - DNA / RNA etc. It was then said that way because, the approach in Ayurveda was more Functional than Structural. Thus studies and Enlivening of Ayurveda is way to be Alive!!! Also, what was True in that "Space - Time" (geological & Energy / active) reality, need not be true now. So, in short, Past unless Enlivened is as good as Ghost. Ghosts must be "Lived Well" , Well is ibeing ntegrated in to Now & Tomorrow (image).

    Many have tried, but people with closed minds cannot hear. Those who want to heal find Real vaidyas and heal the cancer. So many of us have been doing this work quietly for decades. When enough people die, minds will open, and then they will come to Ayurveda first - not at the very impossible end - and they will heal. Until then, we wait....

    Please read about the vast work done on dental amalgams and how dentists and DMDs object and change their practices away from mercury amalgams. But really all they would have to do, if they are truly profit-minded, as every single dentist I have met is, they could just use shoddhita parada and shoddhita dhatu instead of the metals they use. Who will inspire them to learn options outside their comfort circles...? A pioneer in dental medicine who loves Ayurveda is needed.
