the pointers aren’t bad, but the framing and attempt to rule by fear are just stupid

Always better to say “i don’t know “ than to fill in the blank with bs . I love the ambitious “i will find out” approach.

“I think why this slide is so controversial is because it’s like 10% right and 90% wrong.” Sounds like circular reasoning no?

it's 10% right and 90% wrong *to me*, but it's controversial because many think it's 100% right and many also think it's 100% wrong.

I am surprised this list is so controversial, lawyers in biglaw get paid a sh** load of money in return for abiding by these expectations. I’m not saying it’s a good or sustainable way to live, but it’s a tradeoff.

i think because the culture is changing, and there are plenty of partners and senior associates who do not have such hardline expectations. sure, biglaw lawyers get paid a lot, but that doesn’t mean they just have to suck it up and take it

I was working as a paralegal in Seoul and I there were same non-negotiable expectations but with 1/10 salary. They basically expected me to work for free as they refused to write a formal contract, and always told me that Im not meeting expectations. This one paralegal yelled at me when I asked him questions and called me a puppy. I wasnt even sure why those rules were controversial when its the norm in South Korea... South Korean legal culture is toxic af.
