I think the best way to really explain it is that there are games whose design more heavily incorporates its narrative. For example, an ARPG like Horizon: Zero Dawn has gameplay that directly takes you through its narrative, supported by cutscenes. Whereas League of Legends is a game that has a greater focus on the competitive/strategic aspects of gameplay, sprinkling in lore through voice lines and uses other media like cinematics, champion profiles on the website and short stories to really carry the lore.

Whenever I watch the show or the cinematics, I think to myself, maybe I should try playing the game again. But that urge fades real fast. I wish Riot would create (give out the rights to create) a storydriven single player game, where you could discover more of the world and lore. It could be amazing.

Not he killed her but he got away and u can assume he was doing well the choreography in the video is clearly set up by him to work the way it did. He fights Ed and she and almost beat the as well in the same theater. If it was just ran away he wouldn't still go back to the theater with her after him. She moves as planned she's good jhin in lore is just a prediction god Shit he beat zed and she if alkali didn't help and I'd say zed and she are a good comparison to being able to beat Camille

Ekko reversed time to re-do the fight again. When he says that last line, "Here's the thing about time: If you can't make the most out of any given moment, you don't deserve a single extra second," what he's essentially saying is he'll redo that fight until he does it absolutely perfectly, making sure that wall of memorials is undamaged by the end of it. Because he's going to 'make the most' out of those moments.

"There's 4 of you on a team, right?" I mean yeah it sure do be like that- but only if you solo queue.

And since this show seems to be an origin story for Jinx and possibly Vi it should be several years before this trio meets up.

Although the games themselves don't feature any storytelling, each character comes with its own lore and short story to explain their place in the in-game universe. There's alot of content to sink your teeth into and the Legends of Runeterra trailers are a great addition to the story telling. Definitely recommend these if you're gonna continue watching more League of Legends content!

Is there anymore written lore development? There used to be these short stories detailing champion exams through a magic chamber. I forget what it was called. And I know there's been so many changes and retcons over the years. Is there a centralised official source of canon lore?

@@JJoJam i cant quite recall it's name but I know exactly what you're referring to. No, this form of storytelling was abandoned many years ago. Now it seems like lore development is done through reworks, certain short stories, comics and events

About the girl with blades around her: she actually took the hit from the big guy because otherwise he’d charge through her entire army, so she took a (borderline) killing blow to save her army

Fun fact. In Demacia, where the blonde girl is from, magic is like illegal/banned or something along those lines. So her doing that at the end to save the guy with the sword (names are Lux and Garren btw) was at a pretty big risk to herself. Now lore wise idk the situation with her and like if they allow her to use magic for some reason or whatever, but based on the WORLDS rules she made a big potentially sacrifice to herself to save him and the others

They are making a Netflix series called Arcane about the girl with the mechanic arms and her sister

League has a ton of stories to expand its lore. Thing is, I know a lot of people who have never played league but love the story. I don't invite them to play league but I do encourage them to enjoy more of the lore. Sometimes I invite them to play LoR though. Edit: league has short stories, comics, novels and an animated series should be released this year.

Awaken, Pheonix, Rise and Legends Never Die are my favorite LoL cinematics. Just an absolute perfect mix of music visuals and non-dialogue narrative story telling.

So the guy with the chains and the sword made of light, while himself quite a hateful asshole, is actually leading a rebellion against the regime that has been genociding his kind for centuries and forcefully exploited him when he was a child, using his powers to find more like him to get rid of. The fact that he is consistently portrayed as a villain while the brother of that girl, a personally witless but loyal champion of the genocidal government is portrayed as a flawed hero that can't grasp the bad parts of his "otherwise good" nation is quite... a thing.

@@HannaHsOverInvested You should read the novels (and lore ) for yourself . Personally i don't understand why ppl think that Garen (the brother ) is considered "witless" . He's a good soldier , a great commander and a true hero to his ppl . Is he racist ? Yes ... it's the culture he's been raised in , and as an almost "normal" human he has to fight the deux ex magic of some enemies with nothing more then hard work and grit . As for being a "loyal champion of the genocidal government" , that is he's character arc; he has always known about his sister's powers and is conflicted in his loyalty. Spoiler!!!!! When it comes down to it he chooses his sister.

Warning: His videos do not make good reaction material. And that video in particular was made when he had a recent operation making him unable to talk for a short while. If you're interested in a politically critical view into the world of Runeterra (where League of Legends takes place) for its own sake then I highly recommend him. But do not go there looking for content directly.

Really late to the party but the ending of Ekko's cinematic actually shows the memorial of his passed away friend and the pieces coming back is a clever way to show that he rewinds time once more, this time defeating his enemy without destroying the memorial.

Never got into LoL but i do love the cinematics and lore they pump out, gets my imagination firing!

Yoooo this was so cool! Im so glad that you really enjoyed them! Just to kind explain some of the questions that you had about them, the Seasonal cinematics, (Warriors, Awaken etc.) are usually supposed to be more of just hype/excitement cinematics where the story is pretty basic and is more understandable if you know what the characters are currently up to in the lore. Also League does have quite expansive story but its mostly out of the game as most of what happens in game is completely non canon (apart from certain character interactions or story events). Also later this year we are getting a fully animated League Tv Show called Arcane and it will be on Netflix. It will be primarily about Vi (the girl with the pink hair and cool gauntlets in the Warriors cinematic) and another character called Jinx and it will follow their story as they grow up as sisters and what tore them apart as they grew older and it looks fantastic. Hope some of this is useful to you and keep up the amazing videos!

I'm so glad you finally got into Leagues universe. Their videos are incredible and the best thing is that there is A LOT of them. Can't wait to see more

That huge guy with the axe in awaken, thats Sion (my main) and he is honestly amazing. He was a war general, who eventually died when he fought a battle severely against him, along with his most trusted warriors (the rest fled) and long after the rest of them were killed, he was still standing. He charged at the king of demacia at the time, Jarvan I, and impaled by arrows and swords, he gripped the kings throat with one hand. He tore the crown from his head with the other and only when the king stopped breathing did he allow himself to die. He was eventually resurrected using dark magic to fight again, but his first battle, he killed so many enemies and allies that Noxus, who had sent him, could not consider it a victory. League has so much story, the lore is something they have really built up over time, and if you want to check it out, each champion has their own story and bio, and there is a guy named Necrit who does actually do story telling for these stories, champions and recently comics. In the future they have a netflix series planned as well. I am so sorry for the actual essay I just wrote, im just really pas(sion)ate

Man something about League cinematics just make me so hyped like it could be the saddest thing and it would still make me want to watch 5 hours of it. Honestly I don't even play League that much anymore but just the world that they created and the story of each character is so interesting to me I'm literally falling into a hell hole. So, I discovered your channel like 2 days ago. Very happy I did. Legit have watched most of the Non-Gamer vids. Have all made me laugh, smile, and enjoyed them. I would suggest Fallout 4, Killzone, Assassin's Creed Black Flag (promise you'll actually like this one), Resistance:Fall of Man, any of the Halo trailers, and any Metal Gear game (Hideo Kojima, guy who made Death Stranding) Again, happy I found your channel!

The Awakened video always gets me super pumped up. Glad you like it too! The Warriors one also gets me pumped but Awakened especially. I'd also recommend "Don't Mess With Yordles" and "Pentakill: Mortal Reminder". First one is cute and fun, the second one is another hype-up music one for me.

Oh god, why am I so unstable, every time I see a trailer for some not particularly lore-heavy game that I don't care much about like LoL or Owerwatch for the twentieth time it still brings me to actual tears whenever music ramps up

@@zeratulrus142 You're right! Besides the voice lines that sometimes contain lore stuff theres not much in actual LOL that makes you really care about the lore. (The Legends of Runeterra card game and the upcoming Ruined King game is Lore heavy tho). However, The universe of LOL is HUUUGEE, with a ton of lore so if you do wanna get into it (And theres more than plenty to get into) I'd recommend checking out the universe page, maybe starting with the comics if you wanna take it slow

This is the first of your videos I've seen, and I'll definitely by watching more. :) I think my favorite moment is in Awaken when Sion comes into view as the huge champion that flung Irelia (your gladiator girl) into the air and you say "uh uh" and then your exclaimation about teamwork making the dreamwork when Karma shields her. Watching you be so engrossed in the video is cathartic to watch! I am a fairly new gamer who plays League of Legends, and I love how much of the game is put into these videos. The first video about Ekko is extra fun and also frustrating to watch (for those who have played against that champion in game), because one of his abilities in the game is to teleport backwards. I also love that in Awaken they use Jhin's (the virtuoso piano player) traps, which is one of his abilities in game. :) I enjoy music and videos more the more I understand about them. "I didnt understand but I loved it" What happened at the end of ekko video is that, even thou he is barely alive, he decided to rewind the time one more time just to save the paint artwork on the wall. Like he said: "if you can't make the most of any given moment, then you don't deserve a single extra second".

Omg today I randomly stumbled upon your channel again and what do I see? Finally you reacted to the league cinematics, it was awesome to watch Hannah, glad you liked them! As a lot of people pointed out already league offers a huge lore, but as you mentioned in the video you cannot really see through it in the cinematics cuz you kinda need to know the characters and lore to understand why the stuff is happening. However, (as I wrote you couple of months ago :D) there are trailers to 'league of runeterra' which all have amazing storylines about the characters of league of legends and their different regions. I am so glad you finally got to see Awaken and Warriors. My opinion, they are two of the best cinematics that Riot has ever put out. There is another music video that introduces Jinx who is the sister of Vi the pink haired girl. It's called Get Jinxed and she's a bit like a Harley Quinn crossed with Tank Girl. Funny you said you would watch something with those characters because as others mentioned Arcane is coming out on Netflix! I think we are all very excited for that. Awaken and Warriors are one of those videos that no matter how many times you watch them, you still get the same feels out of them. And as I once played the game and know the characters and a bit of lore of what/why is going on, it adds some extra flavour to those videos.

Some of the teasers I've watched dozens of times I still cry watching them once more, I've played league for 11 years now those teasers are insane.

Tales of runeterra has a really good mini ‘lore’ snacks in the form of either minutes, or half-length episodes! League has a special channel made for it

I have suggested to a lot of KZreadrs previously unassociated with "League" to watch these specific cinematics... minus one- you should also check out "Call of Power" ;) But yeah I suggested it when they reacted to the "Arcane" trailer just so they can understand the resume of the people who do their cinematic production, not to mention their world-building capabilities and the emotion they always capture. That series will likely be the first step in what is a larger LoL-cinematic universe to come. Rumors are they want more series and even movies. I can't wait, it's about time they did something like this. Loved your reaction!! :)

One of the best reactions I've ever seen!!

Each champion in league have their own stories that build the world around them. Ekkos story (the boy in the first video) is a boy living in one of the worst seconds of runettera, Zaun. The boy painted on the wall was his bestfriend and the man he is fighting is urgot (urgot is also the 'man' in the last video with Caitlyn the sniper cop and Vi the girl with pink hair and large fists.) He is fighting urgot because he killed his friend and the last thing he has of him is that painting on the wall. Ekko also time travels backward for a few seconds but whatever injuries he gets before he goes backwards in time stay. Awaken has 3 different important time lines. When Jhin (the masked man playing the piano) he is a serial killer who wants to make people 'beautiful' so he uses his flowers to tear their bodies apart to look like flowers. Camille is the woman in the same secene she is a human turned robot and they are in the better part of the twin cities (Zaun is the bad city and Piltover is the better city). Jhin is a highly hunted man running from Shen and Zed in Ionia. She is also hunting him but it is played out like a theatrical performance because all of Jhins murders are meant to be beautiful and 'art'. The next scene is Draven who watched over the arenas of Noxous where all of the greatest fighters come from. Riven is the female who beats all the men and this is Rivens beginning. She fights Draven with a broken blade and proves she is a soldier. she slowly rises through the ranks of Noxous until she realizes what Noxous is doing is wrong. The last one is the battle of Ionia. This is the Noxous invasion of Ionia and Irealea controls 9 blades and she is a protector of Ionia. Karma is a non-violent battle mage who shields irealea, Akali is a warrior of Ionia and trains under Shen she also is the one who jumps ontop of Sion (the big dude) and the man fighting with them is Yasuo who is the brother of Yone. He controls the wind . Warriors has some more complex story going on. The first one is about the battle and rasicim in Demacia. Garen and Lux are siblings and are born in Demacias heir. Lux is one of the best mages in Demacia (along with Morgana but thats a different time line). Garen however is one of the best warriors along with Fiora. Sylas is the man invading Demacia with Ashes people. Sylas was a prioner of demacia because she uses magic and he can steal other peoples magical ablilties and magic. Demacia sees magic as evil and they do not know Lux has magical abilities (Garen knows she does). The whole time she watches her brother get beaten by Sylas and she has to make a hard choice; Be outcasted and probably killed by her people by exposing her abilities and save her brother or watch her people and brother die by Sylas and be the only one left (She and Sylas has a small thing). At the end she exposes her abilities to summon Galio (the big dude who fell from the sky) and she uses her ultimate to kill Sylas. The next secne is of Vi and Cait. They are trying to arrest and end Singed horrors of kidnapping and touring/doing horrifc scientic experiments on the kidnapped. One of them ended up to be Urgot. He is the 'man' in the incubator. After this scene the stuff in Ekkos timeline happens. The last scene is of Ezreal who steals things to stay alive and Cait. is hunting him. Kai'sa is the daughter of the void and she tries to keep people away from it at all costs because then people mutate like her or even Kassiden. Ez steals something very important to the core of the void and this summons the little void spiders and seals both Ez and Kai'sa in. Kai'sa lives inside the core because it whipped out her whole city in Surimma. She uses her powers to get Ez out and Ez selfishly starts to leave with the thing when Kia'sa is about to be invaded. He then makes a decision to get them both out by dropping the thing and fighting off the voidlings and they both escape.

I don't know why, but the second one makes me fired up and inspired and the third one makes me all teared up!

league has a story thats super immersive and its only starting to get all sown together since before it was fragmented across a giant world riot games built

I paused the video to see the comment section towards the end but pressed play again when it sound like you were about to hit me with a star wars quote :'D.

Short explanation of Awaken The guy in the mask is Jhin, a serial killer who thinks of his murders as art and the woman trying to catch him is Camille, the chief enforcer of a powerful merchant clan who replaced most of her body with mechanical parts. The woman in the arena is Riven, once a loyal Noxian soldier she deserted after Noxus sacrificed her whole unit for a quick victory. She got caught and was to be executed but Draven (the guy with the moustache and former champion of the arena) saw that she might finally be the worthy opponent he's been looking for. The woman in the red outfit is Irelia (one of my favorite characters) she was just an Ionian dancer until Noxus invaded her homeland, leading her to discover that her dancing possessed magical telekinetic abilities (hence the flying blades) and she rose to become the leader of the Ionian resistance. The big guy she and the other Ionian heroes are fighting is Sion, an ancient Noxian warlord brought back to life with dark magic.

6:50 "Oh who is that?" That's Kennen. He's an ancient ninja pikachu and he's amazing.

Love your energy. Just a bit of feedback: It would have made me really happy if you'd taken a minute to try to piece together what was going on in the Ekko teaser because I feel like the visual storytelling in that one is fairly solid! I'd love to have heard a little more about what you thought about the scene as a writer yourself.

Basic lore infodump Fortress: Blonde girl and big sword man are from a kingdom where magic is banned (like concentration camp level banned), thats why little sister wasnt doing anything until things went desperate. Chain guy is a mage leading a rebellion against antimage kingdom. Big statue is blonde girl's animated statue friend who is made of magic absorbing stone. Prison: Gun girl is the Sheriff of steampunk scifi city and big fist girl is her partner. Big creepy dude was a cult leader from the shady underside of said scifi city before being imprisoned. Ruins: Blond guy was an Indiana Jones style character who, upon taking the jewel thingy, released a bunch of creatures from a dark dimension thingy called the Void. Nice outfit girl has a living suit that also came from the Void (like Marvel's Venom) and spends her time waging a one woman war against the Void.

I think i know whats coming next.but if not,here are some recommendations:"Kin of the stained blade" and after that "Before dawn" and "Absolution".The last two have to do something with the lady with the big gun(Senna) and the creepy shirtless guy(Viego). And after that "A night at the Inn".

League of Legends has a lot of stories about every champion, interactions between them and it's really interesing!

this 1st week of november, the league of legends will release its very first animated series in netflix, its about Vi(the girl with boosted metal arm) and her sister jinx. yeah really excited too.

You're FINALLY watching the good League of Legends stuff. Their music videos are all awesome.

Well, the brother and sister you mentioned ... come from a land where magic is illegal. ... There's a hell of a lot more story to League, but that line alone explains a lot.

These ones were mostly music videos. They do tell somewhat of a story based on what was happening in the games lore at the time. But a lot of their newer videos/trailers are starting to tell a story. Try League of Legends Kin of a Stained Blade for good story. Also, many of the new Ruination shorts/cinematic tell an over arching story. I definitely think you will enjoy Stained Blade a lot. Always nice to see you branching into a new franchise and although I am sad you didn't like WH40k universe, I definitely understand its not for everyone. :) Keep doing what you do and we'll keep watching. They also have an anime coming out as well called Arcane. Which I do believe will have Vi(Metal Hands) and Caitlyn(Top Hat Sniper) in it.

I've heard about League of Legends, yet I never played it or was interested, to say the least. And after seeing so many of these trailers and scenes of Arcane, m pumped. I now want to know more about everyone's lore, etc.

This is so fun seeing Hannah's reaction knowing Arcane came out.
