Today we are reviewing new model from a Belfast brand Nomadic. Their expedition and explorer type watch called Turas, which is a befiting name as it translates to journey or expedition in Irish.
The 914 represents the xxxxx of the 1914 antarctic epxedition of the SS Endurance and the crews toughness and not giving up spirit as they were stuck in ice with the ship eventually sinking. Despite all odds, they managed to survive and after years of being left for dead, returned home. their Captains family moto "THROUGH ENDURANCE WE CONQUER. TOGETHER, WE MAKE PROGRESS." is engraved on the caseback.
Sized at 39mm in diamater and just 11mm thick, it makes for a wonderful everyday wear watch that will fit almost every size wrist.
The watch is powered by a regulated Sellita SW200 and the watch comes with a lifetime warranty IF you send the watch in for service every 5 years, something we don't see often!
The bracelet is pretty much perfect as it features solid link, solid female end links, and a machined clasp with on the fly adjustment.
The whole package is priced at $1.265 which is quite a lot for a simple time only microbrands, but given the regulation and unique warranty as well as really good build quality, I think it is justified, not to mention it is assembled in Belfast, instead of the more common China.
As usual, stay tuned for the full review

Another great review. Can't unsee the hands now. Like a Tyrannosaurus Rex. Maybe the next version will finally get it right.

Gorgeous watch, excellent detail and I agree those shrimp hands would be a distraction 🍤

Hands are perfect. You can tell the time easily. I don't understand why longer hands are needed.

    1. Because the minute/second hand is meant to terminate close to the minute track at the edge of the dial so that the watch can be set and read accurately. 2. Because they look disproportionately small.

I can’t fathom how they came to this decision on the Handset ?!?!

Ha, I guessed it, I knew you get annoyed with short hands and that was my first thought when I saw the watch. 😅

The hands are short - time for a V2 to fix this. Have to question, why?

Great design is always about finding nice details, harmonies hidden between each elements, proportions that creates beauty... It is like story or way which reveals something more each day. This particular watch is far from great design mostly due short hands. I think every day of having it will bring only more disappointments and questions "what if...".

While I do agree the brand is moving into the right (i.e. a more original feeling) direction, actually I don't think this is 'excellent' except for the hands. What I see, or am led to believe, is that this is an excellently built watch that actually suffers from quite lacklustre design overall and a very high price. The short hands just really make it stillborn. At the pace Nomadic is moving I think we're still some generations away from something truly noteworthy.

Short hands really bug me, what's the point of a minute track if neither the minute or second hand get near it 🙄

They wanted to make a 36mm version, so they can use the same hands.
