The thing I love about this game is that it's pretty much an antithesis of modern game design. - Modern game: tutorialize everything! Noita: what's a tutorial? - Modern game: make things clear for the player. Noita: revels in presenting information in the least straight forward way possible, making almost everything a riddle of some kind. - Modern game: teach player gameplay systems. Noita: learn everything by experimentation, often with lethal consequences. - Modern game: be fair to players. Noita: you will sometimes die by things beyond your control, or simply because you don't understand how something works. - Modern game: respect players time. Noita: you will lose all the progress you've made for the last hour or two (sometimes more) with nothing to show for it. - Modern game: wants to be fully experienced by the player. Noita: Actively hides vast majority of the content from the player and never tells you about it, to the point where some people "beat" it and think that's all there's to it, never to realize they are missing like 80% of the game. - Modern game: Sane. Noita: It's not worth being in the game if it's not some flavor of over the top or crazy. It takes a lot of balls and commitment to make a game like this. And it's the reason it has such a dedicated audience, because it's just so damn unique. I was told by the friend who recommended this game to me to not look up a single thing about it. The whole process of discovery in this game is incredible and unlike anything you've ever experienced in any game before. You will keep thinking that "this must be it" or "this cannot possibly work", but every single time the game proves you wrong. It has some of the most mind-bending secrets in video games and it does things I've never seen done in other video games. I 100% recommend anybody to play it, and paly it blind. Because half of the fun of Noita is discovering what this game is all about.

Also, modern games generally do not respect players time! In Noita, you get what you put back in - a lot of painstakingly slow effort to be safe and get your wand combinations, access to digging and healing, gold enough for just the right perks for a biome you want to enter? You get rewarded accordingly. Other games: You play 20 hours and get maybe a free lootbox or some currency you can buy a single thing with - pay up and you can get it immediately. There's really not a lot of games that respect the players time. Noita demands effort and caution when entering new territory, but it rewards curiosity and experimentation (done safely). Note that for example, the spell "the end of everything" is probably going to kill pretty much anyone casting it if they haven't seen the entire thing already. The spell description? "You're heavily advised not to cast this spell". Clearly, they expect people to learn the lesson by the first few biomes that things CAN and WILL kill you if you don't act carefully - you're taught the mechanics of the games. Boxes and other shapes on the ground can and will explode. If you get through to hiisii base, and don't immediately think "that 'propane tank' over there is probably going to kill me, better poke it safely from a distance and take cover", then you're just being punished for not learning your lesson. Demanding something vs respecting time is very different. Take puzzle games - they demand you remember the lessons of previous puzzles as you build on them, then they add new elements or twists to those mechanics. Noita is much the same - when you see a new enemy, the best approach is to see how they interact with other enemies. Hell. You can even spawn in allies for yourself with eggs, throw them at them, and see what they do. Noita gives you all the tools to progress safely, if you're patient and respect the lessons taught in the first few stages. You don't magically get a better 2nd run, just because you played the game for X hours (that's IMO not respecting time btw - that's just making the game difficult in the beginning and easier with time, rather than easier with skill gain. Many people dislike that - look at MOBAs or PVP shooters). That said, I get where you're coming from and don't think your points are necessarily wrong - just not worded in a way that gets the point best across. Noita truly is a unique game, and I hope to see more like it one day.

I'd say there is one thing people should learn about Noita from other players, and that is the existence of Fungal Shift. Eat enough Weird Fungus and SOMETHING will change into SOMETHING ELSE. If you're holding a flask in your hands, there's a decent chance that one of those two is the substance in the flask. The mandatory warning is that you can fungal shift Smoke into Acid, which melts the world because a pixel of acid produces smoke whenever it dissolves a pixel of anything.

Circle of vigour on a biome shop in the mines.. I've spent hours in some runs trying to find one, then resigned myself to summoning wands and killing them, until one of them has it, and you find it in the first shop! How amazing luck that is, is lost on most new players, that don't know what to do with it or how - hell, I even got an always cast circle of vigor within my first 10h of playing the game. Needless to say, I died a gruesome death and never found one again in the following 340 hours of playing..

Useful Tip: You can right click a potion in its hot-bar slot to drink the contents inside. This works for ANY potion so be careful on what your drinking. Typically you can drink the entire potion safely as long as your character is on an empty stomach. This is useful for Emptying potions or applying quick and long lasting buffs, without breaking the glass jar itself.

Hello, It's funny to say it, but I am actually pretty good at this game and have some advice. About me as a player: I've unlocked all the spells, achievements and monsters, done the 11 orb and 33 orb challenges, supernova'd the sun and dark sun...so I have some advice. That first run was crazy lucky! to find cov in the first biome and explosion immunity and all seeing eye. 1. All seeing eye is my fourth favorite perk behind lightning immunity, melee immunity, and explosion inmunity. Don't take greed over ase. Seeing where the ukkos for example are in biome 3 is so valuable. also chests and hearts. 2. Never ever ever take gamble. Too many perks are bad for you and anything unpredictable is bad in this game. 3. Noita in many ways is a fairy tail about greed. If you see gold nuggets sitting in a dangerous position like a pool of acid the money's not worth the damage. You have to learn to let things go if it's too dangerous, disengage from fights you can't win even if it means not getting some loot, and move on if dying to the next biome even if you havent finished exploring. Obviously more is out there but I hope this helps. Good luck!
