Noel Hill, Tony MacMahon - The Concertina, Come West Along the Road, The New Mown Meadow
Музыка
Noel Hill and Tony MacMahon play a selection of reels in December 1988 reminiscent of their album "I gCnoc na Graí (In Knocknagree)" recorded years earlier.
Reels: The Concertina Reel / Come West Along the Road / The New Mown Meadow.
Note: I don't hold the copyright on this; just sharing what I consider to be some of the best music not available elsewhere. If there is any problems I can take it down; just contact me...

It is perfection
Two of the finest players of Irish Traditional music, yet, 47 'Keyboard warriors' gave them a thumbs down.....
OMG Beautiful Brilliant Performance Guys Well done RIP TONY
The Music simply doesn't get any better than these two great men playing together!
Wonderful music gets better every time I listen to it.
I absolutely love this and come back to it when I need reminding of how good these two could be. And I love the 'hup!' that you hear them shout, when it is really rolling. Reminds me of people shouting out in the pub I learned in back in the 70s, packed with first generation Irish missing home. As it picked up you'd hear the shouted encouragements and then at the end ''Fair play to ye!" I miss it.
Mighty in one word 😊
"""Sad to say Tony Mc. Mahon on accordion passed away a couple of weeks ago . R . I, P Tony . ""
The music to liven up lockdown. Good for the soul. Thank you both.

Sacré souvenir, de 1970, au Festival interceltique de Lorient !!
Excellent playing
Yes it was filmed...I remember seeing it. I've never seen it since. The atmosphere captured at the session was unbelievable. One of great set dancers that night is no longer with us...Marty Marrinan from Cooraclare, County Clare.
The talent is un real god given
How we spend the winter in Clare folks!
Amazing, powerful, masterful performance from two difficult, intense and highly gifted players. Thanks so much CeiliPaul. I'll be trying to emulate that set until I get old and me fingers seize up!
I know this is ten years since posting, and I know this is not going to sound especially impressive or exciting to some folks, but I just wanted to point out that thanks to Noel Hill, and to concertina music in general, I've been able to add a little bit of energy and spirit to my weekly D&D sessions. It's anachronistic fantasy gaming anyway, but the players at my table weren't getting excited over fiddles and flutes. Then I found the concertina, the maker of the music that we so often consider "sailor music" now. They don't have the historical background to know the full difference, but to a small (and growing) number of fantasy nerds, this is the music of high and joyful adventure. Thank you for posting it. :D
Been workin on this wiv me 40 button Bastini for 3 weeks now & not even close! There are some good players here in Spain but they are all blown away by this INCREDIBLE!!! Spanishman

love it ye have lots of energy lads love to meet up with ye
Most of my listening to Joe Burke would suggest that he is primarily a performer for a seated attentive audience. Tony has that special draíocht exemplified in bhis slow air playing but to me his greatest strength in in playing for set dancers, which for a large part of the listening public here in Clare was the primary object of the music. Listen to the crowd's initial reaction to the opening and closing 16 bars of any caledonian set when played for and danced as it should be. Mac's the Man

So are you
It would be interesting to hear Grainger's "Molly on the Shore" on accordian like this.
Notice that Tony is "striking" every note, even ones where two successive notes push/draw or draw/push, in the row are on the same button.
There is a CD up on YT of Hill & Mac Mahon playing this set of reels for set dancers in a county Kerry Pub...The best traditional music C.D. ever recording..

I would walk a long way to see that film. If anyone has a clue where it might be found, please post the details!
Rest in Tony from Brian Cavanagh from Loughrea Co Galway
The smaller the concertina, the easier is it to control.
Great!!!
Dead right, Bannerman The set dancers in Cnoc na Graoi and the two lads greatly complemented each other. Do you know if that session was filmed. I think there is a film of it around somewhere
itma.ie... possibly find it there

never liked the concertina reel so much!
It's not perfect...........................it's better than that.
The tone and melody of the tunes are excellent but for me it is played a little too fast, as if they were in a hurry to get to the end.

It's a good tempo for set dancers.
Could it be they're over speeding..
