It is simply astonishing that anyone could learn this incredibly long, and complex medley of song and dance and then perform it so brilliantly. Martin and Coward...Fantastic!!!

That was de rigeur for entertainers before '68. Perhaps some day we shall have something of similar quality once again.
STUPENDOUS ! And Noel was and is my Hero of showbiz always!
Noel was great in this. Adapted to American Showbis style very well. He was a consumate entertainer!
They were terrific pals. ❤
This is wonderful. A television event unheard of nowadays. So much talent. So entertaining. Wonderful!!!
I cannot believe what I'm witnessing - incredible performance !!!!
When music was music
What a joy! Great songs and great entertainers. Top of the game!
I DARE ANY SO-CALLED SINGER NOWADAYS to sing an 8 min long number like this in a duet, enunciating clearly every damn syllable, while dancing almost non stop, without loosing rhytm or stamina, without mics and autotune.

Amazing. Just remembering the words and sequence of all these sons is a feat. Two GREATS performing together!
talk about class! taste! genius, pure and simple! alas...
The silhouette of Mary Martin’s dress against that white sofa is simply gorgeous, especially when she leans over the back of it UGH..beautiful!

I thought that too - so glamourous - she knows how to frame it and handle it to her advantage - so chic!
So much talent, so much class, 'Swonderful.
That was great fun! I don't remember ever seeing Noel Coward dance before. Quite elegant. The contrast between their two voices reminds me of the contrast between Ethel Merman and Donald O'Connor in Call Me Madam. Mary and Ethel really had the pipes!
I'm English and admire Noel Coward and his prodigious output, I recommend for fans that they look up Stanley Baxter (a Scot) doing an affectionate tribute to the Master.
Love, love, love those people. I miss them so!
This video is an absolute treasure ! So wonderful to see these two great artist performing all of this great music from Broadway and the movies .
They don't make them like this anymore! when did popular music become so gruesome!

Elegant. Sophisticated cultured sums up the master
Two legends. We can't even apply that word anymore.
Thanks for this clip. What great songs by two fabulous artists
Wow! They do just about everything (ALMOST) that two people can do on a couch! So creative and so simple.
& the hits just kept on coming. Stunning!
Many thanks. I could have never imagined this.
Both born in Sagittarius! They were monsters in the theatre sense of the world they were both legends!
Thank you for this upload, that was great entertainment on the B'way stage 63 years ago and there were a lot more to.
They are such consummate pros that I can even forgive Noel some suspect pitches, especially when singing harmony with Ms. Martin. I love this.

William Oser , to be honest, I think Noel sings beautifully (at 55 and while dancing) , it's Mary Martin's voice that I find irritating a bit. Especially when she sings louder than him. His voice is so smooth and in she comes with her wide "a" and "e"

Big fan of Coward and his voice had style if not quality but they should have steered away from harmonising.

Mary Martin is to blame, in my opinion. her voice is so loud and sometimes irritating. i do believe he could have harmonised with anyone else. his voice is warm and perfectly suited for a choir in my opinion.

@@naly202 The only thing we can blame Mary Martin for is sheer talent and class. Did you ever consider the early TV recording and subsequent acoustical transfer to YT? Guess not.

@@mmjhcb , i've only seen your reply now (a year later) and i totally agree with you. Mary Martin was indeed a very talented artist with a beautiful voice (sadly it didnt alaways harmonise perfectly with Noel's - different types of voices all together). I'm not sure why i was so bitter about Mary when i wrote the last comment, probably i was just in an irritafed mood, and i was way to eager to defend Noel, whom i absolutely love, not necesarily for his singing, but for his entire creative work.
Regardless of public tastes and demand, I think one of the reasons these songs are not heard anywhere on TV is because of steep royalty costs. By 2021 most of the songs heard here should be in public domain, but thanks to Disney they are not. And watch them change the laws again when these songs get closer to 95 years old. Tick, tick, tick.
Great!! Elegant!! beautiful voice and dance!!
THE MASTER!! Wonderful. !
The best!
Show business stars that shine on and on.
They don't make 'em like this anymore, more's the pity.
Beautiful
Singing AND dancing❤❤
Everlasting.
Talk about chemistry!
Right attitude.
Stupendous
WOW
Wowwwwww that's entertainment
Sassy, classy and wonderful. An incomparable leading lady and a would be gentleman who wrote remarkable songs not always connected to his works for the stage. Here they are as comfortable as a long standing married couple. The result is exhilarating!
Absolute.
They were great chums in real life !
This proves in spades just why Mary Martin was the great star she was. Of course they're competing, and Noel has a hard time keeping up.
WOW. Mary is Larry Hagman's mom.......

I'd hate to be you if you can dismiss so curtly some of the only real talent you've probably ever seen.
Unfortunately, Coward couldn’t stand Mary Martin in real life. It’s in his letters. Then again, apart from his Mum (& even there), he was known for saying terrible things in the sly about women he basically loved, including Gertrude Lawrence.

Coward saw her Broadway and wrote PACIFIC 1860 for her to reopen the Drury Lane after WW2 but it wasn’t a good fit for her and the show. She also had an issue with the costumes and found some of the lyrics risqué to perform. She almost couldn’t wait to leave and was unhappy to the point where she turned down the London production of ANNIE GET YOUR GUN (Delores Gray did the role.) Coward and Martin eventually made up after he saw her do SOUTH PACIFIC in London. This TV special was one of three he did on NBC. Coward was fond of and loved Gertrude Lawrence but turned down the chance to play the King and direct THE KING AND I. It would not be unusual for him to have disagreements with leading ladies when often he would co-star with them, direct, write the book, lyrics and music. But he was dedicated to Lawrence and concerned that THE KING AND I was affecting her health. The show was difficult to do and camouflaged the liver cancer which killed her.
Sorry but Mary Martin's voice is like fingernails on a chalkboard.
